We hope that today’s “IS IT TRUEâ€Â will provoke honest and open dialogue concerning issues that we, as responsible citizens of this community, need to address in a rational and responsible way?
IS IT TRUE we were just informed that Mayor Winnecke will have strong competition in the upcoming city election? Â …we would like to announce who this person is but committed to our source that we would not release this person name until we get permission? Â …we can say this the soon to be announced candidate for Mayor of Evansville will be running as a Democrat? Â …this individual is well educated, is very dynamic, well spoken and that his campaign will be well funded? Â …we are told that Mayor Winnecke better get ready to defend his liberal spending habits? Â …this is definitely a developing story?
IS IT TRUE do you wonder who actually set the attendance records for the Ford Center?…it was not the Purple Aces?…it was surely was not a hockey team?…it was not the circus?…it was not even a classic rock or country concert that actually set the record for attendance at the Ford Center?  …the #1 and #2 attendance winner for the Ford Center is and shall always be President Donald J. Trump who set the record in 2016 and broke his own record in 2018? …what’s so interesting is that the expenses for these political events were paid by the taxpayers?
IS IT TRUE that Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke announced many months ago that he plans to seek a third term as your mayor in the 2019 election? Â …this gave Mayor Winnecke a long time to raise money to fend off any challengers who may have decided to toss their hat into the ring?…in his two campaigns for mayor, Winnecke has proven to be able to raise over a million dollars for an office that only pays around $100,000 per year?…with the apparent popularity that Winnecke enjoys and over a $600,000 dollars in his political war chest, members of the Democratic party realizes it will be one formidable task to defeat Winnecke in a general election?
IS IT TRUEÂ that At Large Councilwoman Michelle Mercer (R) made it through the primary without a problem? …so far Ms. Mercer has voted for everything the Mayor wants? Â …the mood of the Evansville taxpayers is that they are looking for independent thinkers?
IS IT TRUE we wonder if corporate citizen Vectren could help the City of Evansville to replace the damaged and obsolete lighting bollards along the downtown riverfront walkway and city parks?
IS IT TRUEÂ we been informed that the taxpayers are also paying off an annual debts payment for the new downtown medical school ($2.7M), the downtown hotel ($1.26M) without having any ownership position? …we are told that the Evansville taxpayers aren’t the owners of the hotel and medical school buildings but they are still paying on the bond loan notes on them?
IS IT TRUE some folks living in the 4th Ward are worry that the practice of gentrification may be happening the near downtown area?
IS IT TRUE many government housing projects over time have degraded into violent places where illegal activities such as drug trafficking and prostitution are prevalent?…for people of potential to become trapped into permanent dependency in violent neighborhoods was never the intention of any of the federal housing programs but for many recipients of this generosity violence and lawlessness is a way of life?…it is time for such programs to be reformed and refocused on the original goal of changing lives for the better instead of turning people with potential into permanent wards of the state?
IS IT TRUE federal housing programs also work and get worked by private investors in real estate through the Section 8 voucher programs?…these vouchers are direct payments to landlords who have chosen to invest in properties that cater to people whose rent is paid by the taxpayers of the United States?…this practice was started in some ways to improve the living conditions of the people who would have otherwise been trapped in the cycle of dependency that government projects?…some landlords who enrich themselves by “fleecing the taxpayers by appearing to help the helpless†do as bad of a job at tenant management as Uncle Sam does?…it is not unusual for such investment groups to buy a building on credit, milk the Section 8 vouchers for a few years, and let the bank take the building back?…this happens all of the country?
IS IT TRUE that the federal government has been running housing programs for years intending to help people of limited means keep a roof over their heads with housing subsidies?…some such programs involve placing people and families in housing projects that are administered entirely by public servants?…these programs in their beginning were started with the admirable goal of helping people temporarily with the intention that they improve their skills and learn to manage their lives so that they can return to the real market rate world and cease being a burden on the taxpayers?…over time these programs often failed to rehabilitate lives and ended up trapping people in the cycle of dependency known as being permanently dependent on the generosity of the American taxpayer to keep a roof over their heads?
IS IT TRUEÂ we wonder why the Vanderburgh County Commission has Burdette Park marketing contract on their agenda? Â …we thought that the Burdette Park manager was in charge of the marketing efforts of Burdette Park?
IS IT TRUE it’s time that the Evansville City Council realizes that there are around 120,000 people living in this town and a little more than a 1,000 of them are willing to pay $10 to see a hockey game?
Todays“Readers Poll†question is: Because of the annual bond payments do you feel its time that our elected officials admit that the Ford Center shall never make a profit?
