The No. 2-ranked Indiana University men’s swimming and diving team heads to Austin, Texas to compete in the 2019 NCAA Championships, hosted by the University of Texas at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.The four-day meet gets underway on Wednesday night in Austin with the finals of the 800 freestyle relay at 6:00 p.m. ET. The next three days will feature prelims beginning at 10:00 a.m. ET, with finals each night starting at 6:00 p.m. ET. Ivy Tech Community College Launches “Our Community Works Training Seriesâ€
A Microsoft Excel Boot Camp is planned in the first offering of Ivy Tech Community College’s “Our Community Works Training Series.†The Boot Camp will begin being offered in April at the Ivy Tech Tell City Career & Technology Center.
This training is offered in three levels and students may attend one, some, or all of the courses. The Microsoft Excel Boot Camp classes will help individuals gain the skills in software areas employers want most. Each course include two sessions of hands-on training and customized course content for business and industry. It will also prepare students for the Microsoft Operating System Excel Expert certification exam.
The Perry County Chamber of Commerce is offering a discounted price to its Chamber members through April 5. The price per level is $75 for Chamber members and $99 for nonmembers. Students who enroll in all three levels will save 50% on the Level III Advanced course.

Kurt Vonnegut and Hoosier Quality of Place to be topic of UE Lecture
The University of Evansville’s annual Chutney Literary Conference is set for April 5-6 on UE’s campus. UE students will be presenting critical papers, and will have the opportunity to win awards for their efforts.
The conference starts with the Melvin M. Peterson Literary Forum’s Hemminger-Brown Lecture on Friday, April 5. The lecture will begin at 7:00 p.m. in Room 162 (Harkness Hall), Schroeder School of Business Building. The guest speaker will be Edward P. Comentale, professor of English, associate vice provost for arts and humanities, and director of the Arts and Humanities Council at Indiana University Bloomington. His topic will be “Kurt Vonnegut and Hoosier ‘Quality of Place.'”
Comentale is the author of Modernism, Cultural Production, and the British Avant-Garde and Sweet Air: Modernism, Regionalism, and American Popular Song. He co-edits a scholarly book series on fan cultures for Indiana University Press, through which he has published The Year’s Work in Lebowski Studies and The Year’s Work at the Zombie Research Center.
The conference ends on Saturday, April 6, with student panels planned for 9:30 a.m., 10:45 a.m., and noon in Rooms 271 and 272 in the Schroeder School of Business Building. The Grabill and Klinger Writing Prizes will also be awarded at this time.
Holcomb Speaks at Indiana Leadership Prayer Breakfast
Gov. Eric Holcomb spoke at the Indiana Leadership Prayer Breakfast this morning. The title of his speech is “The Beatitude Not Mentioned,†and the full text of his prepared remarks is attached. The governor also introduced the event’s keynote speaker, Rachael Denhollander, an advocate for victims of sexual abuse and the first former U.S. gymnast to publically accuse Larry Nassar of sexual assault.
The Prayer Breakfast has been an annual tradition since 1969 and is modeled after the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington D.C. The non-denominational event is led by Statehouse Chaplain Matthew Barnes and a steering committee.

The governor spoke about the Beatitudes and how being faithful to that list of instructions helps people live better lives.

Aces fall to Bulldogs in midweek contest
UE resumes Valley play at UNI on Saturday
McKenzie Johnson and Toni Galas posted two hits apiece, but Butler scored three times in the first inning before finishing with a 7-1 win over the University of Evansville softball team on Tuesday night.
Galas and Johnson combined to register four of the Purple Aces (12-17) six hits. Bailee Bostic and Allison Daggett had the other two. Johnson drove in UE’s run. The Bulldogs (11-19) scored their seven runs on eight hits. Maddie Moore had two hits and scored twice.
Butler grabbed the early lead, scoring a pair of runs on a UE error before extending the lead to 3-0 in the top of the first. They tacked on another run in the third inning.
UE managed to get baserunners, recording four hits while loading the bases up in the fourth inning, but they could not push any across the plate.
That changed in the bottom half of the sixth when Allison Daggett led off with a double to right. McKenzie Johnson followed that up with a double to the same part of the field to score Daggett and end the shutout.
The Bulldogs plated their final run on a homer by Christina Candotti in the seventh as they would finish with the 7-1 win. Izzy Vetter made the start for UE and tossed three innings. Jaime Nurrenbern and Emily Lockhart also saw time in the circle.
Next up for UE is a conference series at UNI. The Aces travel to Cedar Falls for two games on Saturday and a single matchup on Sunday.
Sheriff’s Office K-9 Earns “Case of the Quarter”
-  The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office hosted an award ceremony to recognize Deputy Griffin Bush and his K-9 partner Archie for their excellence in securing the “Case of the Quarter” as chosen by the United States Police Canine Association (USPCA). As a former K-9 handler Sheriff Dave Wedding was very pleased to present Deputy Bush and Archie with the prestigious award. K-9 Archie has been a dedicated member of the Sheriff’s Office since 2015 and has been paired with Deputy Bush for nearly 3.5 years. Over the years the Sheriff’s Office has been fortunate to receive numerous donations from community members to specifically fund the growth and operations of the K-9 Unit. In the case of K-9 Archie, it is because of the generosity of people like Bettye and Marvin Stephenson that we are able to celebrate the accolades of Deputy Bush and K-9 Archie for their outstanding performance in the field.
