McGuff Headed Back To Affiliated Baseball With Arizona Diamondbacks

0

Evansville Otters starting pitcher Patrick McGuff had his contract purchased by the Arizona Diamondbacks this week.

“Patrick picked up right where he left us last season,” Otters manager Andy McCauley said.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity the Diamondbacks are giving Patrick and wish him the best of luck.”

Patrick McGuff is from Cincinnati, Ohio and joined the Otters for his first stint in Evansville at the beginning of the 2018 season.

This will be McGuff’s third stint in affiliated baseball. He was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 36th round of the 2016 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Morehead State University. McGuff spent 2016-17 in the Twins organization.

Then after five starts with the Otters in 2018, McGuff was signed by the Cincinnati Reds. McGuff re-signed with the Otters following the 2019 MLB Spring Training season.

“I’m happy as I can be to get another shot in affiliated baseball,” McGuff said.

“It’s always nice to be wanted and the Diamondbacks purchasing my contract made me feel like they want me to be a part of what they have going on there.”

In 2018 with the Otters, McGuff was 3-1 with a 1.55 ERA and 26 strikeouts in five starts and 29 innings pitched. He also tossed one complete game shutout.

In six starts in 2019, McGuff was 5-0 in 43 innings pitched, posting a 1.04 ERA, recording 60 strikeouts, and tossing two complete games.

“This year, I was just trying to be as aggressive as I could in the strike zone, hunting strikeouts, and the aggressive mentality is what led to a lot of success,” McGuff said.

“I’m hoping to get outs and pitch as many innings as possible while putting up good numbers with my new organization.”

In his last start with the Otters, McGuff went the distance in a 3-0 win against the Schaumburg Boomers, throwing a one-hitter in the process. The lone hit came with McGuff being one out away from tossing the fourth no-hit bid in Otters’ history. McGuff struck out 11 batters in the shutout win.

“Friday’s performance by Patrick was as impressive as any I’ve seen,” McCauley said. “He commanded both sides of the plate and all three of his off-speed pitches were working.”

“I couldn’t thank the coaching staff and the Evansville Otters organization enough for everything they’ve done,” McGuff said. “From top to bottom, thank you to everyone.”

McGuff is the second Otters player to be signed to an affiliated organization this season.

Utility position player Taylor Lane signed with the Mets organization in May after possessing a .348 batting average to start the season with the Otters.

An Obituary Printed in the London Times-Absolutely Dead Brilliant!!

This Obituary Was Printed In The London Times-Absolutely Dead Brilliant!

(This Article Was Sent To Us By Our Friend And Patriot Ronald Riecken Of Evansville)

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who
has been with us for many years.
No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long
ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
– Knowing when to come in out of the rain;
– Why the early bird gets the worm;
– Life isn’t always fair;
– And maybe it was my fault.
Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don’t spend
more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).
His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing
regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.
Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the
job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.
It declined even further when schools were required to get parental
consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.
Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses;
and criminals received better treatment than their victims.
Common Sense took a beating when you couldn’t defend yourself from a
burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.
Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed
to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot
. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.
Common Sense was preceded in death,
-by his parents, Truth and Trust,
-by his wife, Discretion,
-by his daughter, Responsibility,
-and by his son, Reason.
He is survived by his 5 stepchildren;
– I Know My Rights
– I Want It Now
– Someone Else Is To Blame
– I’m A Victim
– Pay me for Doing Nothing
Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.
If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.

Gov. Eric J. Holcomb will participate in the 2019 SelectUSA Investment Summit in Washington, D.C. June 10-11. SelectUSA is a U.S. Department of Commerce program dedicated to facilitating job-creating business investment into the United States. At its sixth annual summit, SelectUSA will convene global executives and business leaders to discuss opportunities in key sectors — including advanced manufacturing, information technology, aviation and infrastructure — as well as critical topics like tax and regulatory reform, workforce development, economic diversification, and innovation and venture capital.

While there, he will participate in meetings with business executives and government leaders. On Tuesday, the Governor will participate in a panel highlighting Indiana’s global economy, advanced manufacturing sector and Next Level Jobs workforce initiative. Indiana Secretary of Commerce Jim Schellinger and Indiana Economic Development Corporation President Elaine Bedel will also attend SelectUSA.

The 2018 Investment Summit, which the Governor also attended, drew more than 3,000 participants representing 66 international markets and 51 U.S. states and territories.

Indiana is home to more than 950 foreign-owned business establishments that support approximately 193,000 Hoosier jobs across the state. Indiana has the highest percentage of private sector jobs coming from foreign-owned firms in the Midwest, and that number continues to grow as companies like Sweden-based Saab, Canada-based Greenleaf Foods, Germany-based Saturn Petcare, Switzerland-based Cormo USA and UK-based DS Smith choose to locate and expand in Indiana.

Calabrese clutch RBI helps give Otters series win

0

The Evansville Otters closed out a series win at the Schaumburg Boomers Sunday, as Rob Calabrese delivered a clutch RBI knock and Randy Wynne pitched eight shutout innings to give the Otters a 2-0 win.

On the mound, Randy Wynne was locked in once again, throwing eight shutout innings, surrendering only eight hits while ringing up four, helping push Evansville to a winning record to close out a nine-game road swing.

Offensively, Evansville scored an early run in the top of the second.

With one out in the inning, Anthony Maselli singled up the middle, one of his three singles on the day.

Jack Meggs, the next batter, roped an RBI triple down the right field line to score Maselli, giving the Otters a 1-0 lead.

No runs would be scored until the eighth, with the Otters leaving 10 men on base heading into the inning.

Mitchell Hansen, who was 0-3 heading into the at-bat, hit a leadoff single to right field.

Maselli moved Hansen over to second on a sac bunt with one out.

After Meggs struckout, Calabrese hit a pinch-hit RBI double to the wall in centerfield, scoring Hansen and extending the Otters lead to two.

Abraham Almonte earned his first save of the year, retiring the side in the ninth, with the Boomers’ Clint Hardy flying out to Hansen in right field to end the game.

Schaumburg starter Aaron Rozek earned the loss, tossing six innings while allowing one run on eight hits.
