Obituary For Marjorie Smith

Marjorie Waller Smith, 92, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2019. A lifelong resident of Evansville, she was born on February 15, 1927, to Richard and Dorothy Waller.
Marjorie attended Stanley Hall Elementary School and Bosse High School and was a 1948 graduate of Vanderbilt University. She served as president of the Junior League of Evansville and of the Evansville Museum Guild. She served as a board of trustees’ member of several other community organizations and was a lifetime member of Trinity Methodist Church.
Marjorie is survived by her son William Smith and his wife Lori of Newburgh; daughter Dorothy Shoemaker and her husband Steve of Newburgh; daughter Gretchen Merrick and her husband Daniel of Morgan Hill, California; grandchildren William Smith and his wife Alex, Andrew Smith, Gretchen Smith, Marjorie Little and her husband Thom, Anne McKim and her husband Mike, Emma Merrick, and Ford Merrick and his wife Laure. She also leaves behind great-grandchildren Lily and Rory McKim, Helen and Philip Little, and Liam Smith. Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband William H. Smith in 2002.
A memorial service will take place at Trinity United Methodist Church, 216 SE 3rd St., Evansville, 47713, Saturday, September 28th at 10:30 a.m., followed by a private burial. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
Charitable contributions in memory of Marjorie may be made to the Evansville, Indiana organization of your choice.

We hope that today’s “IS IT TRUE” will provoke honest and open dialogue concerning issues that we, as responsible citizens of this community, need to address in a rational and responsible way?
IS IT TRUE that our Ellis Park “Moles ” just informed us that as of yesterday there has been a change in the role of executive leadership at this historic race track?  …as of yesterday, Jeff INMAN assumed the responsibilities as General Manager of Ellis Park?
IS IT TRUE we posted the following comment in the City-County Observer on September 10, 2019?  …we posted “IS IT TRUE we were just informed by a credible source that a Harrison High School student was arrested yesterday? …he was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun while at school?  …this is a developing story”?
IS IT TRUE some of our readers find it interesting that members of the mainstream media didn’t immediately inform the general public about this serious security breach at Harrison High School?
IS IT TRUE yesterday we received the following press release from the EPD Media Relations Director,  Sergeant Jason Cullum?  …Sergeant Cullen stated the following: “Evansville Police arrested a 14-year-old high school student on weapons charges on September 9th. A Harrison High School employee contacted police about a recently enrolled student possibly being in possession of a handgun. There were no claims of any threats being made by the student, only that he had a gun.”  “An EPD officer, working with school administrators, immediately removed the student from class and investigated the complaint. During the investigation, the officer found a small-caliber handgun in the student’s pocket. The student was taken into custody without incident.”  “He was placed in a secure youth holding facility on charges of possession of a firearm at school and possession of a firearm by a child.”  “The Evansville Police Department and the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation view student safety as a top priority. The ongoing safety partnership between the two organizations resulted in a serious situation being resolved in a professional and timely manner.”
IS IT TRUE some of our readers wonder why the officials at EVSC hasn’t sent out a press release explaining why this security breach happened at Harrison High School?
IS IT TRUE we give five (5) cheers to members of the Evansville Police Department for resolving this potentially dangerous situation without conflict?
“IS IT TRUE we been told that the downtown EID (Economic Improvement District) 2020 budget proposes a $10,000 salary increase for the Executive Director? …we hope whoever prepared this budget made a typing mistake? ..we wonder what funding source is this guy salary coming from?  …we also wonder who are the members of the EID (Economic Improvement District) Board Of Directors?
IS IT TRUE that Sportsbook wagering will become available at Tropicana-Evansville starting today at 11:00 am?

TODAY AT 11 AM

William Hill Sports Book at Tropicana Evansville, an Eldorado Resorts property, will open its doors to sports fans and visitors tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 12 at 11 am CT. This sportsbook partnership marks the opening of the first William Hill sportsbook in Indiana.

The new state-of-the-art sportsbook will feature a 16’ x 9’ ft. video wall, ten 65-inch viewing monitors, and 12 odds boards that will provide sports fans with comfortable places to watch sports with friends and bet on the games. The book, featuring a full-service bar, will be located just off the casino floor, steps away from Tropicana Evansville’s two hotels, four restaurants and conference center.

He has a BBA-Management degree from the University of Kentucky-Lexington, Kentucky and is a graduate of Central High School-Evansville, Indiana.
