“IS IT TRUE” January 30, 2019 EID

0

We hope that today’s “IS IT TRUE” will provoke honest and open dialogue concerning issues that we, as responsible citizens of this community, need to address in a rational and responsible way?

IS IT TRUE reported in the Courier and Press that the salaries of Armstrong and two other full-time staff members add up to $257,000 per year or about 37 percent of the EID yearly budget? … it’s been alledged by several sources that the EID Board Of Directors may have just approved giving Mr, Armstrong a $9,000 to $10,000 raise increase? …we hope that this information is inaccurate and that his salary increase for the year was in the $900 to $1,000 range? …in fact, it’s reasonable to believe that someone made a mistake by adding an extra zero to his alleged salary increase?

IS IT TRUE when the people fear the Government we have Tyranny!  When the Government fears the people we have Liberty!

Today’s “Readers Poll” question is:  Who’s the most effective State Representative in our area?

THE 30TH ANNUAL ATHENA AWARDS LUNCHEON
HONORED SIX WOMEN LEADERS IN GREATER EVANSVILLE

EVANSVILLE, IN – Women leaders are making our community the dynamic place we live and work today. Women are running our largest manufacturing facilities, guiding and teaching our youngest citizens, providing world-class health care and developing the science and medications that keep us in good health.

Chambers of Commerce throughout the United States proudly host ATHENA Award® ceremonies to celebrate the many roles women play in community success. The Southwest Indiana Chamber, in partnership with ANEW (A Network for Evansville Women), hosted the 30th annual ATHENA Award Luncheon today, Friday, Feb. 28. Athena representatives are exceptional leaders in the Evansville-area community who have actively and generously assisted others in attaining professional excellence and leadership skills.

Much as the role of women in our society was transformed 100 years ago when the U.S. Constitution was amended, the impact of women in every corner of our society continues to grow. The Southwest Indiana Athena Awards Ceremony is also evolving. This year we are doubling down to recognize those who are demonstrating excellence, creativity, and initiative in their business or profession while also finding time to serve our community and to actively assist other women in realizing their full potential. These are our Athena’s. This year, 6 women will be recognized for their unique impact:

EXECUTIVE OF THE YEAR

DR. HEIDI DUNNIWAY, Regional Chief Medical Officer, St. Vincent Evansville — The recipient of this award demonstrates professional excellence, community service and an active role in a service or program that assists other women in the attainment of professional excellence and leadership skills.

 RISING STAR OF THE YEAR

ALYSSA OSHODI, Senior Communications Specialist, Vectren – A CenterPoint Energy Company — This award recognizes a woman, under age 35, who has distinguished herself as a leader and role model to other young women in her profession.

Keynote Speaker, Dr. Sue Ellspermann, president of Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana, offered comments and recognition at this special ATHENA Award’s Luncheon. Her career journey and the broad impact she has on the future success of Indiana’s and the Tri-State’s business community is unparalleled.

2020 ATHENA® AWARD SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

Cheyenne Nicole Miranda, IU School of Medicine; Rickie Wilson, University of Southern Indiana; Anarae Silverwillow, Ivy Tech Community College; Megan Yoder, University of Evansville

Four ATHENA Scholarships were presented to students here today. One student from Ivy Tech Community College, the University of Evansville, the University of Southern Indiana and the IU School of Medicine will be honored. All four universities generously provided a matching scholarship.

Established by the ATHENA Award Committee, the ATHENA Scholarship recognizes outstanding female students who actively support other female students through encouraging and helpful words and actions. The recipients demonstrate excellence, creativity, and initiative in both academics and extracurricular activities and provide valuable services by contributing their time and energy to improve the quality of life for others in their school and community.

“Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” Drunk Driving Enforcement Begins

0

At a news conference held earlier today, the Evansville Police Department and the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office announced their participation in the annual nationwide ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ drunk driving enforcement campaign.

Two of the heaviest drinking events of the year are around the corner: St. Patrick’s Day and the NCAA tournament. All throughout March, members of the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office and Evansville Police Department will be conducting overtime patrols to prevent dangerous, aggressive and impaired driving. This is part of a statewide enforcement campaign, funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) through the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI).

According to ICJI, in March of 2019, there were 433 alcohol-related crashes across Indiana, resulting in 205 injuries and five fatalities. Of those, 65 crashes (15 percent) and one fatality occurred during the St. Patrick’s Day holiday weekend alone.

If you plan to drink alcohol, please don’t drive. Designate a sober driver beforehand. If you are impaired, use a taxi service or call a sober friend or family member. If you see a motorist who is operating in an unsafe manner or you suspect is driving while impaired, please call 911 immediately. Be prepared to report the location, description, and direction the vehicle is traveling.

Increased enforcement will begin February 28 and continue through March 22, 2020.

“IS IT TRUE” FEBRUARY 28, 2020

IS IT TRUE yesterday the Evansville Courier and Press posted a headline that “Coronaavirus is less threatening in Vanderburgh County than the everyday flu according to a top nurse”? …the Courier and Press also posted that Mayor Winnecke said: “he and top local health officials had been planning for days to publicly address the issue and acknowledging that flu is a greater concern than Coronavirus locally”  …Winnecke said “his purpose is to reassure people, debunk social media noise and be clear about “what the reality is in Evansville, Indiana, today” and “There’s no reason to be fearful. There are great plans in place. We have great health care providers that can handle this if the situation arises,” the mayor said, stressing the word, “if”?

IS IT TRUE we are told at this point that many people give more credence to what they read about the Coronavirus in the printed, online and social media outlets reports than a non-scientific opinion of a Mayor?

IS IT TRUE we wonder if the “TOP NURSE” can tell us which illness is more statistically life-threatening. the flu or the Coronaaavis?

IS IT TRUE that Vanderburgh County Council and County Commission has balanced the county budgets for five years in a row?….because of the conservative leadership of both County Commissioner and County Council, the budget continues to be balanced and reflect a budget surplus at the end of each year?
IS IT TRUE we give five (5) cheers to local attorney Charles Berger for having the passion to force the EVSC to become accountable and practice “Good Public Policy”?  …because of Mr. Burger’s recent “Public Access For Public Records” request, the EVSC backroom closed doors decisions will soon become public?  …we hope and pray that one day soon another Charles Berger type will come forward and demand that the Evansville DMD,  City Controller, VenueWorks and the Evansville Redevelopment Commission make all the financial transactions pertaining to the funding of the Victory Theater, Facade Grants, Rehab loans and the Evansville Thunderbolts from day one public?
IS IT TRUE attached is ORDINANCE G-2020-03 An Ordinance Creating Chapter 3.120 (Non-Profit Assistance) of the Evansville Municipal Code Sponsor(s): Weaver, Mosby Discussion Led By ASD Chair Trockman Discussion Date: 3/9/2020?  …here is the link to  G-2020-03 for your review?
IS IT TRUE attached is ORDINANCE F-2020-02 An Ordinance of the Common Council of the City of Evansville Authorizing Transfers of Appropriations, Additional Appropriations and Repeal and Re-Appropriation of Funds for Various City Funds Sponsor(s): Beane Discussion Led By Finance Chair Beane Discussion Date: 3/9/2020      …here is the link of  F-2020-02 for your review?
IS IT TRUE recently the EVANSVILLE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS approved the following Not-For-Profit Grant Agreements for 2020: Evansville African-American Museum Foundation, Inc in the amount of $14,000. Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana, Inc in the amount of $4,500.00. Children’s Center for Dance Education, Inc. in the amount of $1,000.00 Evansville Philharmonic Orchestral Corporation in the amount of $5,500.00. The Evansville Museum of Arts, History & Science, Inc in the amount of $10,000.00. Evansville Symphonic Band Incorporated in the amount of $4,500.00. Keep Evansville Beautiful, Inc in the amount of $3,000.00.  Louis J. Koch Family Children’s Museum of Evansville, Inc in the amount of $14,000.00.  Leadership Evansville, Incorporated in the amount of $5000.00. The Reitz Home Preservation Society Inc in the amount of $7,000.00. Southwestern Indiana Regional Council on Aging, Inc. d/b/a SWIRCA & More in the amount of $15,000.00.  United Neighborhoods of Evansville, Incorporated in the amount of $48,000.00. Vanderburgh County Humane Society, Inc. in the amount of $1,500.00. WNIN Tri-State Public Media, Inc in the amount of $3,000.00.  Youth Resources of Southwestern Indiana, Inc in the amount of $9,500.00.  Metropolitan Evansville Chamber of Commerce Incorporated d/b/a The Chamber of Commerce of Southwest Indiana; of $11,000.00?
IS IT TRUE we wonder why the Evansville City Council didn’t approve the above grants awarded to the above not-for-profits instead of the Board Of Public Works?
IS IT TRUE recently the Vanderburgh County Commissioners and Evansville City Council passed “minimum square footage” housing ordinance? …this approval was well received by many local residents who want to live in “tiny homes” because of the extremely reasonable costs to build?  …we are told that several highly successful Realtors in Vanderburgh County proper are upset about this the “tiny homes” ordinance being approved because it will take away from their bottom line?  …we predict that the less than moderate-income residents living in the Jimtown and North Main Street areas will be able to afford to build one of these homes in this area? …we give five cheers (5) to our locally elected officials for making a ‘Good Public Policy’ decision?
IS IT TRUE when the people fear the Government we have Tyranny!  When the Government fears the people we have Liberty
IS IT TRUE when Christopher Cooke was hired as the Superintendent of the City Of Evansville Cemeteries the cemeteries had some serious challenges?  …over the years Mr. Cooke took the bull by the horn a made some much-needed improvements to our cemeteries on a barebone budget?  …we give five (5) cheers to Christopher Cooke the Superintendent of the City Of Evansville Cemeteries for during an excellent job in managing our cemeteries?
IS IT TRUE we appreciate Chanda Ramsey the Marketing & Communications Creative Director for the Southwest Indiana Chamber Of Commerce for sending us important news articles about the happenings at the area Chamber?
IS IT TRUE our “READERS POLLS” are non-scientific but trendy?
Today’s “Readers Poll” question is: Do you believe Mayor Winnecke’s statement “that there’s no reason to be fearful of the Coronavirus because there are great plans in place to handle this situation”?
