0

With the University of Evansville set to enter Stage 3 of its reopening on Monday, June 22, the athletic department has announced the reopening of the Carson Center Ticket Office as part of that process.

Summer hours for the ticket office will be Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. with Friday set for 8:30 a.m. through 4 p.m.  The university will observe an extended July 4th weekend and will be closed on July 3 and 6.  This includes the ticket office.

While communications with the ticket office via phone (812-488-2237) or USPS mail is preferred, in-person service will be available at the ticket window.  Those who will be traveling to campus are asked to park in the H lot, which is adjacent to Arad McCutchan Stadium and provides easy access in and out of the Carson Center.

Anyone coming to campus is required to wear a face mask for the duration of their visit.  Social distancing guidelines will be followed and hand sanitizer will be available inside the building.

Right Jab And Middle Jab And Left Jab” June 23, 2020

The majority of our “IS IT TRUE” columns are about local or state issues, so we have decided to give our more opinionated readers exclusive access to our newly created “LEFT JAB and Middle Jab and RIGHT JAB”  column. They now have this post to exclusively discuss national or world issues that they feel passionate about.
We shall be posting the “LEFT JAB” AND “MIDDLE JAB” AND “RIGHT JAB” several times a week.  Oh, “LEFT JAB” is a liberal view, “MIDDLE JAB” is the libertarian view and the “RIGHT JAB is representative of the more conservative views. Also, any reader who would like to react to the written comments in this column is free to do so.

Jacob Madden and Michael Adams join the Purple Aces

University of Evansville head men’s soccer coach Marshall Ray has announced the addition of goalkeepers Jacob Madden and Michael Adams to his 2020 squad.

“Jacob and Michael will both strengthen our goalkeeping unit.  Michael is the ideal student-athlete for the University of Evansville and was very direct about his desire to be a member of our program and the Evansville campus community,” Ray said.  “Jacob comes to us from Appalachian State and gained valuable experience as a Division I starter last season.  He will come in and compete with our current number one, Matt Bryant.”

“Matt played well for us in the last two games of last season and had a solid performance against the University of Louisville in our only match of the spring,” Ray continued.  “Matt and Jacob will push each other and battle for time, making us much stronger at this position.”

Jacob Madden ·Goalkeeper ·Round Rock, Texas ·Appalachian State University

Madden joins the Purple Aces as a transfer after a two-year stint at Appalachian State (D1 – Sun Belt). After redshirting his freshman season at App State, Madden started in all 19 games for the Mountaineers in 2019, finishing the regular season with an 11-7-1 record and eight shutouts, which ranked him 15th in the nation and tied for first in the conference. His save percentage of .711 ranked him third in the conference, while helping the Mountaineers to a .421 shutout percentage slated him first in the conference and 33rd in the nation at the end of the regular season. He posted 54 saves on the season, placing him third in conference, with a season-high six saves against Elon. Madden was also named Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week after posting a perfect week with two shutouts against George Mason and American.

Madden is also a strong performer in the classroom, being named to the academic honor roll in both his freshman and sophomore year.  The Business Management major is the son of Stephen and Kathy Madden and has four siblings.

Michael Adams ·Goalkeeper ·Maineville, Ohio ·Ohio Elite ECNL / Kings High School

Adams joins the Purple Aces after a standout career at both Kings High School and the Ohio Elite ECNL. In his senior year of high school, Adams made 111 saves, totaling a 0.79 save percentage, while helping Kings to an 11-4-3 record and being named conference player of the week during playoffs.

He is the son of Jim and Heidi Adams.  His father is a former professional goalkeeper who was named the USL goalkeeper of the year in 1995 and is a Hall of Fame player at Monmouth University. His mother is a former collegiate swimmer at Transylvania University.  The Electrical Engineering major has a sister – Haley.

EPA Takes Action to Stop Use of Certain PFAS in Products and Protect American Consumers

0
Agency marks 4th anniversary of amended TSCA by meeting important milestone under PFAS Action Plan

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) Action Plan, EPA is issuing a final rule giving the agency the authority to review an expansive list of products containing PFAS before they could be manufactured, sold, or imported in the United States. This action, issued under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), means that EPA is prohibiting companies from manufacturing, processing, or importing products containing certain long-chain PFAS, which persist in the environment and can cause adverse health effects, without prior EPA review and approval. As part of the agency’s review, EPA could place restrictions on these products to protect public health.

“As EPA marks the 4th anniversary of amendments to TSCA, this new rule gives the Trump administration a powerful new tool to protect public health,” said EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler. “The regulation can stop products containing PFAS from entering or reentering the marketplace without our explicit permission. EPA is committed to aggressively addressing these chemicals of concern under the PFAS Action Plan.”

This final rule strengthens the regulation of PFAS by requiring notice and EPA review before the use of long-chain PFAS that have been phased out in the U.S. could begin again. Additionally, products containing certain long-chain PFAS as a surface coating and carpet containing perfluoroalkyl sulfonate chemical substances can no longer be imported into the United States without EPA review.

Today’s action means that products like ski wax, carpet, furniture, electronics, and household appliances that could contain certain PFAS chemicals cannot be manufactured, imported, produced, or sold in the U.S. unless EPA reviews and approves the use or puts in place the necessary restrictions to address any unreasonable risks.

This action also levels the playing field for companies that have already voluntarily phased-out the use of long-chain PFAS chemicals under EPA’s PFOA Stewardship Program by preventing new uses of these phased-out chemicals from starting up again. Before this action, the use of these PFAS could have started again at any time without EPA’s approval.

Since issuing the PFAS Action Plan in February 2019, the most comprehensive cross-agency plan ever to address an emerging chemical of concern, EPA has made significant progress to help states and local communities address PFAS and protect public health. That brings to 42,633 the total number of Indiana residents known to have the novel coronavirus following corrections to the previous day’s total.

Intensive care unit and ventilator capacity remain steady. As of today, more than 38 percent of ICU beds and more than 81 percent of ventilators are available.

A total of 2,363 Hoosiers are confirmed to have died from COVID-19, an increase of 13 over the previous day. Another 190 probable deaths have been reported based on clinical diagnoses in patients for whom no positive test is on record. Deaths are reported based on when data are received by ISDH and occurred over multiple days.

To date, 418,916 tests have been reported to ISDH, up from 411,920 on Sunday.

Any Hoosier seeking COVID-testing can obtain it through one of the state-sponsored OptumServe sites, regardless of whether they are at high risk or have symptoms. To find testing locations around the state, visit www.coronavirus.in.gov and click on the COVID-19 testing information link. More than 200 locations are available around the state.

In addition, ISDH will be hosting a free drive-thru clinic from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Sunday at the Carrie Gosch Early Learning Center, 4001 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago.
