Nearly 100 children who are served by the Isaiah 1:17 Project will receive a new bicycle, helmet, and bicycle lock this week during Ivy Tech Community College’s 15th annual Public Safety Academy bike giveaway.

In the past, EVSC has partnered during the summer months with the City of Evansville Parks and Recreation Department and Ivy Tech Community College to provide enriched learning opportunities in a safe, healthy, and drug- free environment with specific goals of increasing academic achievement and reducing drug use and violence. The Summer Enrichment Program emphasizes education, community service, and family participation. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 this year, the program will not be taking place.

However, Ivy Tech is still giving children a healthy outlet for their energy and teaching them about the rules of engagement for the sidewalks and roads for bicycle owners!

This year, recipients of the bicycles include members of the Boys and Girls Club, YMCA summer Programs, The Dream Center and children served by the Isaiah 1:17 Project. The bicycle giveaway includes 2 adaptive bicycles, bicycle helmets, locks, and related equipment.
