Some Schools In Indiana Are Still Waiting On Critical Supplies They Need To Reopen

Article origination IPBS-RJC

An increase in COVID-19 cases in Indiana – and across the U.S. – is prompting concerns about how safe schools will be as they reopen for the new academic year. And some schools are facing backed-up supply chains for critical items, like personal protective equipment (PPE) and technology for students.

There’s a rush for schools to get critical things like face masks and sanitizer – and a lot of it.

But the executive director of the Indiana Association of School Business Officials Denny Costerison says some are seeing delays in receiving those supplies.

He says the delays are also hitting technology orders as school leaders hurry to get enough devices to help students with online and remote learning.

“Whether they’re tablets, laptops, whatever it is they’re purchasing, I’ve heard they are backed up too,” he said.

With COVID-19 cases on the rise, schools are re-evaluating their plans for reopening; some have chosen to delay the start of the new academic year or shifted plans to rely more on virtual instruction.

Costerison says some local leaders are making those decisions with the hopes they’ll be better prepared when students and staff return.

“So they can make sure that they have all the PPE, especially items they need before they start. They don’t want anyone to say ‘well you weren’t prepared, you weren’t ready,'” he said.

Some schools are asking families to bring things like cleaning wipes and hand sanitizer as part of their back-to-school supply lists for students. The school year is scheduled to start for some as early as next week.

Ky. Couple On House Arrest After Wife Tests Positive For Coronavirus But Refuses To Sign Quarantine Order

A Kentucky couple was placed on house arrest after one of them tested positive for coronavirus and refused to sign documents agreeing to quarantine at home.

Elizabeth Linscott and her husband, Isaiah, displayed their ankle monitors on NBC affiliate WAVE last week.Linscott told the station that after testing positive for coronavirus and later refusing to sign a Self-isolation and Controlled Movement Agreed Order, the Hardin County Sheriff’s Department arrived at their Hardin County home with stay-at-home orders for her, Isaiah and their infant daughter.a person sitting posing for the camera: Elizabeth Linscott and her husband Isaiah are on house arrest after Elizabeth tested positive for COVID-19 and decided not to sign documents agreeing to self-quarantine. ”I open up the door and there’s like eight different people,” Isaiah said. “Five different cars and I’m like what the heck’s going on? This guy’s in a suit with a mask, it’s the health department guy and he has three different papers for us.”
The ankle monitors the couple was ordered to wear will alert law enforcement if they travel more than 200 feet from their house.Elizabeth Linscott said she got tested for COVID-19 so she could visit her parents in Michigan with less worry. But she tested positive, without symptoms, and she said the local health department asked her to sign documents that would stop her from traveling anywhere without calling the department first. She said she chose not to sign the documents because “if I have to go to the ER if I have to go to the hospital, I’m not going to wait to get the approval to go.”The couple said they did not refuse to self-quarantine, and had planned to do so.”That’s exactly what the Director of the Public Health Department told the judge, that I was refusing to self-quarantine because of this and that was not the case at all. I never said that” Elizabeth Linscott said. “We didn’t rob a store, we didn’t steal something, we didn’t hit and run, we didn’t do anything wrong.”The Linscotts told WAVE that they plan to get an attorney. Neither Elizabeth nor Isaiah Linscott responded to additional requests for comment.

The Lincoln Trail District Health Department, which services the Hardin County Health Center, also did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

In a statement, Hardin County Sheriff John Ward said the office “serves Court Orders from both Hardin Circuit and District Courts on a daily basis.”

A Kentucky court spokeswoman said she could not comment on pending court cases.

The University of Evansville Ranked Among the Top 50 Best Affordable Colleges for Music Therapy

The University of Evansville has been ranked among the top 50 best affordable colleges for music therapy degree programs. The ranking comes from Affordable Schools and was published on the organization’s website in January.

The compilation and ranking of schools was created by using the National Center for Education Statistics’ College Navigator database. Affordable Schools considered programs based on tuition costs, student-to-faculty ratio, and educational outcomes. Points were assigned for each of the categories to build the final list of 50 schools from across the nation.

“This recognition for our music therapy program demonstrates the University’s commitment to both academic excellence and affordability,” said Kenneth Steinsultz, co-chair of the Department of Music at UE. “This program provides great value to students, as they can experience small class sizes, hands-on learning, and high-quality education, all while maintaining affordability.”

The Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy degree at the University of Evansville trains students to use music therapy methodology and interventions to address an individual’s physical, emotional, spiritual, and cognitive needs. This profession is a growing field in the healthcare industry that has been proven to help patients regain speech, improve motor function, develop communication capabilities, and more.

Students in UE’s music therapy program will prepare for a career through behavioral and music courses, as well as music therapy-specific classes that include Psychology of Music and Introduction to Improvisational Methods. Before graduating, students will complete a six-month internship to apply classroom knowledge to real-life scenarios. Music therapy and music education double major is also available, and this route is for students interested in combining their skills and talents to be a therapist and teacher. Visit evansville.edu/majors/music to learn more.

“Becoming a music therapist is a transformative experience for students,” said Demian Kogutek, director of music therapy at UE. “Music therapy majors not only learn about the music therapy process but also about the clients with whom we work and the overall importance of music in the community.”

Affordable Schools is an online resource guide that highlights the best, high quality, affordable online and traditional colleges and degree programs. As a leading higher education resource, Affordable Schools provides profiles of a large number of public and private institutions with solid academic reputations. You can read the full article about music therapy programs online.

OTTERS TO PRESENT A SECOND GAME BROADCAST

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Evansville Otters invite all members of the media and the public to watch a virtual game broadcast, the second virtual Otters production in 2020. With the Frontier League championship baseball season canceled due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Otters once again want to bring Evansville Otters baseball and the Bosse Field experience straight to our fans virtually in the safety and comfort of their own homes.

The virtual broadcast will feature a rebroadcast of the July 26, 2019 home game against the Windy City Thunderbolts with new commentary. The re-broadcast will include interviews with Otter’s president John Stanley, the Otters coaching staff with field manager Andy McCauley, and some members of the local sports media.

There will also be interviews with current and former players, such as outfielder Elijah MacNamee, pitcher Randy Wynne of the Cincinnati Reds organization, Jeff Lystra from the inaugural 1995 Otters team, and Denver Stuckey from the 2003-05 Otters clubs.

The Evansville Thunderbolts’ mascot, Pride, will participate in the ceremonial first pitch, and an OttersTV segment will walk through the Otters Gift Shop, which is open for business, to show items available for purchase. Plus, fans will recognize other familiar sights and sounds that they would normally experience on a game day at Bosse Field.

Right Jab And Middle Jab And Left Jab” July 27, 2020

The majority of our “IS IT TRUE” columns are about local or state issues, so we have decided to give our more opinionated readers exclusive access to our newly created “LEFT JAB and Middle Jab and RIGHT JAB”  column. They now have this post to exclusively discuss national or world issues that they feel passionate about.
We shall be posting the “LEFT JAB” AND “MIDDLE JAB” AND “RIGHT JAB” several times a week.  Oh, “LEFT JAB” is a liberal view, “MIDDLE JAB” is the libertarian view and the “RIGHT JAB is representative of the more conservative views. Also, any reader who would like to react to the written comments in this column is free to do so.
