Right Jab And Middle Jab And Left Jab” August 9, 2020

The majority of our “IS IT TRUE” columns are about local or state issues, so we have decided to give our more opinionated readers exclusive access to our newly created “LEFT JAB and Middle Jab and RIGHT JAB”  column. They now have this post to exclusively discuss national or world issues that they feel passionate about.
We shall be posting the “LEFT JAB” AND “MIDDLE JAB” AND “RIGHT JAB” several times a week.  Oh, “LEFT JAB” is a liberal view, “MIDDLE JAB” is the libertarian view and the “RIGHT JAB is representative of the more conservative views. Also, any reader who would like to react to the written comments in this column is free to do so.

National Award Presented to member of Department of Correction & Employee of GTL

0

Indianapolis, Ind. - Earlier today Chris Eloiza, the Intelligence Coordinator for the Dept. of Correction, and Gabrielle Padilla, a Supervisor of Intelligence Services with GTL, the contract provider of communication services for offenders at Indiana correctional facilities, were recognized with a national award.

The award, from the National Corrections/Custodial Intelligence Sharing Group (NCCISG), an affiliate to the national Law Enforcement Intelligence Units (LEIU) organization was the result of Chris and Gabrielle being nominated by the Oklahoma liaison for LEIU, Nick Chaffin.  Mr. Chaffin is the Resident Agent in Charge for the Oklahoma Department of Correction.  In Mr. Chaffin’s nomination letter to the LEIU board, which ultimately resulted in today’s award, he stated, “As the Intelligence Coordinator and Lead Analyst for the Indiana Department of Correction  – Office of Investigations and Intelligence, [Chris] and Gabrielle continually provide leadership and display the utmost professionalism throughout the correctional intelligence community and the criminal intelligence community as a whole.”

The letter went on to highlight specific examples of service that resulted in their recognition.  The most prominent being the development of a one-week Correctional Intelligence Analyst Academy, which was attended by 25 people from five different states and represented 11 separate law enforcement and correctional agencies.

“Most people fail to recognize the level of dedication, commitment and investigative work that goes into gathering actionable intelligence of criminal activities in a correctional environment.” said Commissioner Rob Carter of the Indiana Dept. of Correction. “It speaks very highly of Chris and Gabrielle to be recognized with this award by a national organization that’s committed to making correctional facilities safer through intelligence gathering and sharing.”

Sheriff’s Office K-9 Tracks Three Felons in One Night

0

A Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office K-9 team aids in the arrest of four suspects during two police pursuits over the weekend.

On Friday, August 07, 2020 at approximately 11:23pm, the Sheriff’s Office was requested to assist Indiana State Police (ISP) troopers during a vehicle pursuit near US41 and Waterworks Road. Pursuing ISP units were attempting to stop a red 2001 Dodge Ram with false/fictitious license plates that was operating without headlights. After a brief pursuit, ISP troopers lost sight of the vehicle near Waterworks Rd near Nugent Drive. Responding deputies located the vehicle on a farm access road and witnessed the driver flee into a soybean field.

ISP troopers and sheriff’s deputies set up a perimeter and a Sheriff’s Office K-9 team began tracking the suspect. The suspect was tracked through the soybean field, across a creek and through woods before being apprehended. The suspect, later identified as Jerry Dewayne Brown, had been tracked nearly one mile from where the track began. Brown was located attempting to hide in a large bush.

Later that morning on Saturday, August 08, 2020 at approximately 02:14am, Sheriff’s Office deputies observed a vehicle with an equipment violation that was weaving between two lanes. Suspecting that the driver may be intoxicated, sheriff’s deputies initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle near Fulton Avenue and Georgia Street. The driver fled from deputies at a low speed until the vehicle failed to navigate a turn at the intersection of Kratzville Road and Huber Avenue. The vehicle struck a fence and then struck a tree before coming to rest on the property of Locust Hill Cemetery. Two of the three occupants fled the vehicle, which contained a stolen firearm. Jerel Nathaniel Howard surrendered immediately and was placed into custody at the vehicle.

Responding Sheriff’s Office deputies and Evansville Police Department officers set up a perimeter as a Sheriff’s Office K-9 team began tracking the suspects. After nearly one half mile, the K-9 located both suspects who were later identified as Shacorey Hawkins and Trevor Jordan Brown. Both suspects surrendered to the K-9 team before being apprehended. The suspects were hiding along a creek in the 1200-block of W. Buena Vista Road.

The Vectren electric crews join more than 70 CenterPoint Energy linemen, contractors and support personnel who are traveling to assist Philadelphia Electric Company (PECO) with power restoration. Vectren has also sent an additional 60 contractors to assist other northeast utilities.

Vectren linemen prepare to leave to travel 17 hours to Long Island, N.Y.

Trucks are loaded up before Vectren Crews head east to assist after Hurricane Isaias.

Vectren crews will travel 17 hours to Long Island and are expected to arrive in the early morning hours on Sunday. Once their working location is determined, they will work 16-hour days restoring power. Vectren is part of electric utility mutual assistance programs that provide access to thousands of linemen and tree trimmers from around the country to lend a hand during widespread power outage emergencies. While the company has often released contractors to assist, this will be the first time Vectren’s full-time employees have been called to assist since Hurricane Sandy in 2012.
