Andy Brown named Director of Compliance and Student-Athlete Services

Brown to continue as Men’s and Women’s Diving Coach

University of Evansville Senior Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations/SWA Sarah Solinsky has announced that Andy Brown will assume the position of Director of Compliance and Student-Athlete Services.

 

“We are pleased to announce Andy’s promotion as our new Director of Compliance and Student-Athlete Services,” Solinsky said.  “His passion to serve the needs of our student-athletes and assist our coaches and staff are evident each day.  I look forward to working with Andy in his new role and his development as an athletics administrator.”

While assuming his new administrative role, Brown will continue his work with the Purple Aces Swimming and Diving Program as the Diving Coach.  He has worked as the Assistant Swimming and Diving Coach at UE since rejoining his alma mater in 2013.

“I would like to thank the AD Mark Spencer, and the SWA Sarah Solinsky for this opportunity.  I feel that this is a great opportunity to transition into the Administration side of athletics where I can further my career in Athletic Administration,” Brown exclaimed.  “I look forward to working with all of the UE athletes and Coaches in this new role of Director of Compliance and Student-Athlete Services. Go Aces!”

Since his arrival back in Evansville, Brown has volunteered to assist the compliance and student-athlete services office.  In the pool, he has directed his student-athletes to new heights.  His work with former diver Courtney Coverdale resulted in two appearances at the NCAA Diving Zones and he was named the 2017 Missouri Valley Conference Diving Coach of the Year for his efforts.

Brown graduated from Evansville in 2005, earning a B.S. in Athletic Training.  He went on to earn his Master’s in Higher Education Athletic Administration from Southeast Missouri State University.  Before coming back to Evansville, Brown worked at Pine Creek and Liberty High School in Colorado Springs, Colo. while also assisting the diving programs at Cape Girardeau Public Schools (Cape Girardeau, Mo.), Fremont Public Schools (Fremont, Mich.) and Evansville North High School.

EPA finalizes first ever rule to promote transparency in developing regulatory guidance documents

AG Curtis Hill applauds ruling to uphold conviction of Alyssa Shepherd

Attorney General Curtis Hill today applauded the Indiana Court of Appeals’ decision to uphold the conviction of a woman who struck four children – three of whom died – with a truck as they were attempting to board a school bus.

Alyssa Shepherd was convicted last year following a four-day jury trial on three counts of reckless homicide and other charges. On Oct. 30, 2018, Shepherd failed to stop for a school bus that had stopped to pick up children outside of a mobile home park in Fulton County. As two twin boys and their older sister crossed the southbound lane of State Road 25 to board the bus, Shepherd hit them with a truck, a collision that resulted in the children’s deaths. Shepherd also struck a fourth child, who has required 21 surgeries to address his injuries.

Shepherd appealed her convictions, arguing the state did not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that she acted recklessly and that the trial court abused its discretion when it rejected her proposed instruction on what evidence will not support a charge of reckless homicide. The appellate court rejected both arguments.

“We understand that no court ruling will fully soothe the pain felt by those who loved these precious children, but we hope this decision assists in healing their aching hearts,” Attorney General Hill said.

The appellate court also vacated Shepherd’s misdemeanor reckless driving conviction, finding that it was duplicative of her felony criminal recklessness conviction, which the state conceded. This will not affect her 10-year aggregate sentence. The court also remanded an issue regarding the suspension of Shepherd’s driver’s license back to the trial court.

Auto Theft potential suspect

 On September 11 around 9:00 a.m., the Evansville Police Department was called to the 4500 Division St. Auto Plaza for a stolen vehicle report. 

  The victim told officers that his vehicle was parked in the parking lot of Magna Motors when it was taken. A picture of the vehicle as well as a potential suspect is included in this press release.

HEALTH DEPARTMENT UPDATES STATEWIDE COVID-19 CASE COUNTS

Hatfield Dr. Shooting

  On September 13 around 8:30 p.m., the Evansville Police Department was dispatched to the 1300 block of Hatfield Dr. for disorderly conduct. Before officers arrived, the run was changed to shots fired. Officers arrived on scene and found the victim on the ground with gunshot wounds and the suspect standing nearby. The suspect was taken into custody without incident and transported to police headquarters. The victim was transported to the hospital. The victim was shot twice, once in the upper left leg and also in the abdomen.

  Officers were later notified that prior to the victim being shot, he was involved in domestic dispute with his wife. Once things became violent, his wife called the suspect to the scene to protect her. Once he arrived there was a physical altercation between the victim and suspect, ending in the suspect shooting the victim. 

  The victim is currently in critical condition, but is expected to survive his injuries and the suspect was released from police headquarters pending potential charges.
