EVANSVILLE, IN (03/17/2022) In an effort to conduct a thorough national search for the next director of athletics, the University of Evansville (UE) has hired TurnkeyZRG to assist in the search process. TurnkeyZRG is universally known as one of the top search firms in the sports industry.

UE has formed a diverse, nine-person advisory committee that includes current and former student-athletes, faculty, coaches, administrators, and trustees. The advisory committee, along with UE President Christopher M. Pietruszkiewicz, will work collaboratively with TurnkeyZRG, led by managing director Chad Chatlos, in a national search for the next director of athletics. Chatlos specializes in senior executive searches across the sports industry with a focus on senior leadership roles in the ever-changing landscape of intercollegiate athletics.

“I am confident that this advisory committee will assist in attracting an impressive pool of candidates who will focus on the student-athlete experience in competition and in the classroom, who will engage our campus, our friends, our fan base, and our community, who will build strong competitive programs, and who will support our coaches and athletics staff who build competitive skills and serve as mentors for future leaders,” said Pietruszkiewicz.

About 900,000 More Hoosiers Eligible For Automatic Taxpayer refund

0

STATEHOUSE (March 17, 2022) – About 900,000 additional Hoosiers will now qualify for the $125 automatic taxpayer refund this spring under a new law recently signed by the governor, according to local lawmakers.

“Instead of growing the size of government, it’s only right to return this money to the people who earned it in the first place,” said State Rep. Matt Hostettler (R-Patoka). “This extra money could be a help for many families.”

State Rep. Cindy Ledbetter (R-Newburgh) said higher-than-expected state revenue collections during the 2021 fiscal year triggered the state’s automatic taxpayer refund. As a result, Hoosier taxpayers will receive a combined refund of over $545 million when they file their taxes this year.

“Indiana continues to be a desirable place to do business and that’s a big reason we’re in such a strong fiscal position,” Ledbetter said. “Strong revenue projections combined with a track record of responsible policies mean more money for taxpayers.”

State Rep. Wendy McNamara (R-Evansville) said she supported Senate Enrolled Act 1 to expand the list of who qualifies for a $125 refund to include those who did not earn enough money to file a state return. McNamara said these Hoosiers should also receive a refund because they still pay state sales taxes, which are deposited into the state’s general fund, and, in the case of retirees, may have paid income taxes throughout their working years.

“With this law, even more Hoosiers can expect an automatic tax refund this spring,” McNamara said. “With rising nationwide inflation, every little bit helps when it comes to paying household bills.”

State Rep. Tim O’Brien (R-Evansville) said depending on how Hoosiers file their state tax returns, refund payments could be made by direct deposit or by mailed checks. The Indiana Department of Revenue expects to have refunds processed by May 1 for Hoosiers who complete their taxes by the April 18 deadline.

“Republican lawmakers worked hard to pay down debt, invest in successful programs and save for a rainy day,” O’Brien said. “Our revenues continue to outpace projections and it’s only right that we return money back to taxpayers.”

Gov. Holcomb Announces Ed Littlejohn to Step Down from Department of Toxicology Dr. Christina Beymer named new director

0

INDIANAPOLIS (March 17, 2022) – Ed Littlejohn has notified Gov. Eric J. Holcomb that he will retire as the first director of the Indiana State Department of Toxicology after serving for 10 years. Gov. Holcomb also announced Dr. Christina Beymer as the next director of the agency.

“Ed Littlejohn established the Department of Toxicology as a trusted lab providing great government service to law enforcement across the state, and managed tremendous growth,” Gov. Holcomb said. “He stepped up when we needed him, and I thank him profusely for his service.”

Littlejohn was named the department’s first director in 2012 after it became a state government agency and has served ever since. The Department of Toxicology provides the alcohol breath test program for the state, conducts toxicology analyses of blood samples for alcohol and certain drugs, and provides expert testimony and education on the science of forensic toxicology.

Under Littlejohn’s leadership, the Department of Toxicology has:

  • Deployed new evidentiary breath test instruments and trained 5,000 police officers in their use across the state in 2014
  • Built a reputation as a trusted laboratory for forensic science, with caseloads increasing 144 percent over nine years to 14,520 in 2021
  • Become accredited through the American National Standards Institute National Accreditation Board

“It has been an honor to establish the Department of Toxicology and work to ensure its reputation and credibility as all members of the agency here conduct crucial work for law enforcement,” Littlejohn said. “The people of Indiana have faith in our work and I depart proud of the department’s standing.”

His last day is April 8. Before his appointment at the Department of Toxicology, Littlejohn had a 38-year career with the Indiana State Police, including as commander of the lab division.

Dr. Christina Beymer has been with the department since 2014, working first as a forensic scientist then the analytical laboratory supervisor. She has been the assistant director since 2018.

“Dr. Beymer will continue to improve processes, increase efficiency, and work strategically as the workload of the department is expected to continue to grow in the coming years,” Gov. Holcomb said.

Beymer earned her Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry at Wright State University, and her Ph.D. in analytical chemistry at Purdue University. She begins her new role April 11.

“I look forward to continuing to work with state agencies, courts, police and attorneys across the state as the department becomes a prominent lab in the forensic toxicology community and provides the best service possible to the residents of Indiana,” Beymer said.

0

Gibson County – Wednesday evening, March 16, at approximately 6:25, Indiana State Police, Fort Branch Police and Gibson County Sheriff’s Office responded to 205 West John Street in Fort Branch after Robert Crawford, 62, allegedly pointed a handgun at two neighbors. When officers arrived, they located Crawford in the alley near the neighbor’s residence. Crawford appeared to be intoxicated and had to be ordered several times to remove his hand from his pocket. After Crawford finally complied, he was placed in handcuffs. During a search, Trooper Roberts discovered a loaded handgun in Crawford’s pocket. During the on-scene investigation, officers were able to determine a female neighbor was picking up trash in the alley when Crawford allegedly approached her and started screaming. The female yelled for her husband who was in a nearby garage. After he appeared, Crawford allegedly pointed a handgun at the couple. The neighbors immediately walked away and called 911. The investigation also revealed Crawford was also under the influence of alcohol. Crawford was arrested and taken to the Gibson County Jail where he is currently being held on bond.
