All University alumni and friends are eligible to make nominations at any time, however, the deadline for the 2022 award nominations is Aug. 14, 2022, at 4:30 p.m. EDT.

2022 award nominations must be received by the Director of the VU Alumni Association by Aug. 14. Late and/or incomplete nominations will be considered for the 2023 award.

UE Guaranteeing Vincennes University Graduates A Spot In There Engineering Program

0
A Direct Admit Transfer Agreement is now in place guaranteeing Vincennes University graduates a spot in the University of Evansville’s Engineering Program with a scholarship worth at least $18,000.

VU Engineering developed a guaranteed admission agreement with the University of Evansville for Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering. VU students need to earn their Associate degree in one of these concentrations and maintain a 2.5 GPA. After graduating VU they can transfer to UE to earn a Bachelor’s degree with an academic scholarship award of at least $18,000 per year.

“We at VU look forward to expanding our relationship with UE. I also extend my gratitude to UE leadership and faculty for their exceptional work and for this partnership creating even more opportunities for the students we mutually serve,” says Curt Coffman, VU Dean of Science, Engineering and Mathematics. “With VU’s in-state tuition scholarship, the entire Tri-State area could save thousands of dollars on a VU/UE engineering education,” Coffman added.

Students will graduate from VU confident that they are well prepared to continue their academic journey and are sought after by top employers and top Universities. “We strive to ensure our students are set up for success. Direct admission agreements like this are one way VU offers our students pathways to high-quality educational experiences that aligns with their true goals and passion,” says VU President Chuck Johnson. “We expect to see many students taking advantage of the guaranteed admission to UE,” he says.

“We are thrilled to partner with VU and extend this opportunity to those pursuing a future in engineering,” says Christopher M. Pietruszkiewicz, President of UE. “Students who transfer to UE will receive a high-quality education in our School of Engineering and Computer Science from a talented and experienced faculty. The rigorous curriculum, senior design teams, and internships with local organizations will provide them with the skills and experience for a successful career many years after graduating.”

VU’s affordable tuition rates allow students to save enough in their first two years to pay for a full year at a four-year college. The guaranteed transfer agreements and surefire scholarships make a VU degree highly attractive to those interested in engineering fields.

“The students we have been getting from VU for our engineering programs are very well prepared and a perfect fit for our hands on, project-based curriculum.” says Suresh Immanuel, PhD, Associate Dean for the UE School of Engineering and Computer Science. “They are able to transition quickly and play an integral role in all our team-based projects. We look forward to having many more VU students through the guaranteed admission agreement.”

Anthem Partners with EVSC Foundation to Support  Lodge Elementary School and Hangers

The donation will help fund the classroom enrichment activities at Lodge and provide hygiene products for students visiting Hangers.

EVANSVILLE, IN – Anthem is partnering with the EVSC Foundation to donate $3,000 to support classroom enrichment activities at Lodge Elementary School this coming school year. It also donated hygiene kits for in-need students who visit Hangers, the EVSC clothing resource.

“We are excited to support the students and educators at Lodge, knowing that they work hard to serve their students. We want to come alongside educators as they design and implement enriching activities, and help students with basic needs so they can focus on learning”, says Anthem’s Liz Stauth. Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield serves students on Medicaid and experiencing homelessness across the Evansville-Vanderburgh county, making them a great partner to families and educators.

Hangers serves over 2,500 students each year, providing clothing, shoes, and other basic necessities to our students. “We are grateful to Anthem for their contribution this fall. We serve a large group of students at the beginning of each school year and their donation will help us ensure they can start the school focused on learning and not have to worry about having the clothes and shoes they need”, says Dave Schutte, Director of Hangers.

This collaboration between Anthem and the EVSC Foundation is part of a larger effort to sponsor schools serving students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. “Educators in our Priority Schools often pay for project materials and learning resources from their own pockets. This is one way that we can channel community support in an equitable, focused way so that all our students enjoy enriching classroom activities”, commented Elisabet Sena-Martin, EVSC Foundation President. “We hope other community partners will partner with us to sponsor more schools!”

To learn more about ways to partner with the EVSC Foundation to make a difference in our students’ lives, visit evscfoundation.org or contact the Foundation at info@evscfoundation.org.

Otters Earn Solid Win Against Miners On Getaway Day

0

AUGUSTA, N.J. – The Evansville Otters departed Skylands Stadium Sunday afternoon with an 8-2 win against the Sussex County Miners, receiving solid pitching on the mound and key hits at the plate.

Evansville had early success against Sussex County starter Michael Mediavilla.

In the top of the first inning, Steven Sensley lined a hit to opposite field to drive in Jeffrey Baez for the game’s first run and give Evansville an early 1-0 lead.

The Otters jumped ahead to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third when J.R. Davis singled to right with the bases loaded to score Bryan Rosario from third and Elijah MacNamee from second.

In the meantime, Otters starting pitcher Austin Gossmann got off to a strong start, recording three strikeouts in the first couple of innings.

Sussex County did manage to score a run in each of the third and fourth innings. Juan Silverio brought in Mikey Reynolds for an unearned run in the third, while Nick Garland homered to left in the fourth.

Holding a 3-2 lead through four, Gossmann locked back in on the hill for Evansville. The right-hander struck out four more through the seventh inning.

Gossmann’s counterpart, Mediavilla, allowed three runs and struck out seven in seven innings for the Miners.

The Otters struck for four runs in the top of the eighth inning off three Miners pitchers, increasing their lead to 7-2.

Miles Gordon singled to right to score Davis and Baez to start the scoring in the inning for Evansville.  Then Zach Biermann, who pinched-hit in the inning, later scored on an RBI single by Anthony Torreullas. The scoring in the eighth for Evansville finished with George Callil scoring on an error by Sussex County.

Gossmann’s day ended with one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth, handing the ball over to reliever Augie Gallardo.

Gallardo got out of the bases-loaded jam on a big double play to end the eighth inning, getting David Maberry to fly out to Gordon in centerfield. Gordon proceeded to throw out Alex Toral at home after he tagged up at third base on Maberry’s flyout.

Evansville tacked on an insurance run in the ninth on a sac fly by Gordon, picking up his third RBI of the game.

Offensively, Rosario led Evansville with a three-hit game in his debut. Sensley and Davis finished with two hits each. Davis also had a two-RBI game.

On the mound, Gossmann picked up his fifth win of the season, going 7.1 innings and striking out nine for the Otters. The Miners’ Mediavilla recorded his fifth loss of the season.

Evansville will return home to Bosse Field this week for a six-game homestand, kicking it off with a midweek series against the New York Boulders.

CRG Residential Signs Agreement to Advance Major Downtown Redevelopment Due Diligence Phase Commences for Mixed-use Project at Fifth and Main

0

EVANSVILLE – CRG Residential, a Carmel-based construction and real estate investment firm, has signed an agreement to advance a major mixed-use project at Fifth and Main streets in the heart of Downtown Evansville.

CRG Residential, which previously developed Evansville’s 144-unit mixed-use Post House in partnership with Indianapolis-based Scannell Properties, already has begun its due diligence phase. This includes conducting site surveys, environmental assessments, and strategizing on how to overcome current economic challenges.

“We understand the community’s heightened enthusiasm in developing a project that can serve as a key anchor at the center of downtown. We intend to move forward quickly to identify and propose a development that will instill pride in the Evansville community,” said CRG President Christopher Reid. “We have had a great interest in the Evansville market over the years, and this newest opportunity allows us to pursue our own process to identify what a similar mixed-use project will look like.”

CRG Residential succeeds former developer Domo Development LLC, which successfully led the project through phase I.

“When community leaders approached our team about this project, they shared that the site had been a challenge for decades,” said Domo partner John Hennessey. “We are proud of our work to bring the project to this stage. When approached by local investors about selling our stake in the project, we felt it was, both, the right timing and the right decision for our team and the Evansville community. We look forward to seeing the citizens of Evansville enjoy the benefits of the project’s completion.”

In addition to the Post House, CRG Residential has significant experience with public-private partnerships throughout Indiana and the Midwest. CRG recently opened Nickel Plate Station in the center of downtown Fishers and has invested in other public-private partnerships in Carmel, Greenwood, Brownsburg, Newport, Ky., West Des Moines, Iowa, and Traverse City, Mich. among others.

“The delay caused by inflation and supply chain constraints prompted a broader review of how best to proceed,” Mayor Lloyd Winnecke said. “Ultimately, the parties agreed that transitioning to a new developer would be beneficial. We are appreciative of Domo’s contributions through phase I and pleased that CRG can partner with the city to complete this vital piece of our downtown plan,” Winnecke continued.

FOOTNOTE: CRG Residential, LLC is a Carmel-based construction and real estate investment firm that specializes in complex multi-family housing developments throughout the Midwest and the eastern United States. With more than 175 employees, CRG Residential has 29 years of experience, having renovated and/or constructed over 30,000 multi-family units throughout nearly 24 states.Â
