EPD DAILY ACTIVITY REPORT
Aces to compete on Monday and Tuesday
Â
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – A busy stretch continues for the University of Evansville women’s golf team, who will compete at the Butler Fall Invitational on Monday and Tuesday.
Highland Country Club in Indianapolis will host the 54-hole tournament. Two rounds are set for Monday with the final 18 to take place on Tuesday. Par is 70 and the yardage is set at 6,040.
Along with the Purple Aces, the participants include Austin Peay, Ball State, Bellarmine, Butler, Chicago State, Dayton, UIC, Indiana State, IUPUI, Marshall, Northern Kentucky, Tennessee State, Valparaiso and Youngstown State.
Earlier this week, UE split to play in two events. At the Golfweek Red Sky Classic, it was Mallory Russell earning the top finish for the team, tying for 73rd. Her score of 230 was capped off by a final-round score of 74. Alyssa McMinn had the top round for UE on Wednesday, carding a 1-over 73. All five Aces had their lowest round on the final day.
Four individuals made the trip to Schereville, Ind. for the Briar Ridge Invitational. A pair of freshmen led the way with Kate Petrova and Destynia Sheridan earning Evansville’s top finishes. Petrova tied for 23rd with a 157 while Sheridan improved by nine strokes between rounds one and two on her way to a 161. She finished 33rd.
VINCENNES, Ind. – The Vincennes University Trailblazers continue to stay unbeaten in Region 24 play after notching their 19th consecutive Region 24 victory Thursday night on Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night at the P.E. Complex.
Before the game, members of the VU volleyball team recognized different members of the Vincennes University Faculty and Staff who have made a tremendous impact on them at VU.
The Trailblazers rode this wave of support from the pregame festivities into the opening set with the Blazers jumping out to a 16-6 lead after a 7-0 run by sophomore Josephine Mulligan (Saint John, Ind.).
Vincennes continued with this momentum throughout the first set, not allowing the Warriors to battle back as VU grabbed set one 25-12.
Set two began as more of a back-and-forth battle with both teams trading points before sophomore Lara Gomes de Castro stepped up to serve an 8-0 run to give the Blazers an 18-11 lead.
Wabash Valley was unable to respond to this lengthy scoring run as the Trailblazers rallied through to take set two 25-15 and hold a 2-0 match lead.
The third set was even more closely contested with Vincennes holding a one-point 15-14 lead before launching a 7-1 scoring run to open a 22-15 lead.
Looking to close out the sweep, Vincennes did not allow the Warriors to gain any ground in the set with Vincennes coming away with the 25-17 set three victory and completing the Region 24 sweep 3-0.
OP-ED ARTICLES SENT TO CCO BY CANDIDATES RUNNING FOR POLITICAL OFFICES IN THE Â NOVEMBER 8, 2022 ELECTION
SEPTEMBER 30, 2022
(Attached below are two (2) OP-Ed articles that THE CITY-COUNTY OBSERVER has posted without bias, opinion, or editing in order for our readers to get an idea of why they have decided to run for political office in the upcoming November 8, 2022, General election)
OP-ED: Â VANDERBURGH COUNTY SHERIFF CANDIDATE LIEUTENANT NOAH ROBINSON OFFERS HIS THOUGHTS ON THE UPCOMING ELECTION
SEPTEMBER 30, 2022
This nearly two-year journey that I embarked on in January of 2021 has been nothing short of an adventure. Working as a full-time sheriff’s deputy while also campaigning 40 hours a week has been the challenge of a lifetime, both for me and my family. I am proud of what we have accomplished, the team we have assembled, the consensus we have built, and the work we have done.
OP-ED: Â WHY I AM RUNNING FOR DISTRICT 76 STATE REPRESENTATIVE SEAT
By Katherine Rybak, J.D., Democratic Candidate for State Representative, District 76
September 30, 2022
I Want To Help Hoosiers Who Struggle To Make Ends Meet
I worked as an attorney for low-income and elderly clients for forty years. During my years of service, I learned that our legal system tends to kick people when they are down. For example, if you can’t pay your rent, you get evicted and you get a judgment against you for the rent, plus damages, plus attorney fees, plus filing fees, plus 8% interest. A public record is made of your eviction, so you cannot find a new place to live. If you get a job, your old landlord can take 25% of your pay through a garnishment of your wages. If you have enough money in the bank to pay your next month’s rent, your bank account can be frozen and cause you to be unable to pay your rent once again.
Katherine Rybak, J.D
To address this issue, I want to protect more income for workers and limit garnishments to a smaller percentage of wages. I want to increase the amount of money in the bank that is protected from attachment from $450 to $1000.
Most states allow a tenant to repair their home and deduct the cost from the rent after giving the landlord a reasonable time to make repairs. A law to permit repair and deduct would help tenants who rent from out-of-state landlords who neglect their property.
Access to health care improved in Indiana with the passage of the Healthy Indiana Plan. I will vote to preserve and improve access to health care.
I Want To Rein In Monopoly Utility Companies
We need a better balance between the interests of utility companies and ratepayers. Part of the problem with utilities is all the money they contribute to political campaigns for the General Assembly. I will not take money from the utility sector.
The goal of utilities is to maximize profits. It is the job of the IURC and the state legislature to protect ratepayers. My opponent has consistently voted with the utility companies. I propose that we reinstate Energize Indiana and net metering, shift some of the risks of doing business back to the utility companies, have regional representation on the IURC, and elect the Utility Consumer Counselor, who is supposed to represent ratepayers. I will stand with consumers and not with utility companies.
I Want To Restore Reproductive Freedom
The loss of freedom, privacy, and personal autonomy hurts our quality of life. The Republican supermajority has a proven record of taking away freedom, privacy, and personal autonomy. S.E.A. 1 (the abortion ban), which was sponsored by my opponent, will cause Indiana to have more child poverty, more maternal deaths, fewer doctors, and less investment by companies due to a legal environment that is hostile to women and
physicians. My independent opponent promises to eliminate all exceptions to the abortion ban, a policy that will certainly cause more maternal deaths and devastate the lives of many women and girls.
I support legislation to reduce the need for abortions while protecting the health and freedom for women and girls. I want to repeal S.B. 1, the abortion ban; make contraceptives more widely available; improve sex education, and make sure that women have access to a full range of reproductive health care.
I Want To Help Hoosiers Get Back To Work
I have a plan to help Hoosiers get back to work. First, we need to promote investment in childcare and increase the availability of subsidies for those who cannot afford childcare. Second, we need to modify the garnishment statute. Third, we need to invest wisely in public education and support teachers so that Indiana graduates are prepared for the jobs of the future. Finally, we need to make treatment available for everyone with substance abuse disorders who is trying to get sober.
I Want To Support Law Enforcement And Public Safety
During the regular 2022 legislative session, representatives of law enforcement provided testimony to our legislators that repealing the requirement for a permit to carry a gun would make their jobs more dangerous and more difficult. Nevertheless, my opponent and the supermajority voted to allow anyone who is not a prohibited person to carry a gun without a permit. I will support legislation that enhances the safety of our first responders and our community.
I worked as a civil legal aid lawyer for forty years prior to my retirement in 2020. I have experience as a nursing home ombudsman and Medicaid advocate. I served on the boards of directors for Albion Fellows Bacon Center, Guardianship Services of Southwestern Indiana, and United Caring Services. I am a volunteer tax preparer, a volunteer guardian, a part-time public defender, and a family mediator.
I want to serve in the Statehouse as an advocate for the people of District 76. Many of my proposals for addressing the real needs of Hoosiers have died in the legislature because the Republican majority refused to give them a hearing. It is time for a change. I would appreciate your vote on November 8th.

MAYORAL CANDIDATE CHERYL MUSGRAVE POLITICAL FUNDRAISER WAS VERY SUCCESSFUL
Earlier this week Evansville Mayoral candidate Cheryl Musgrave attended a political fundraiser in her honor at the home of John and Gail Dunn.
It’s a well-known fact that this political fundraising event generated an impressive sum of money on behalf of the “Cheryl Musgrave For Mayor” committee. Â Around 90 well-known community, political and business leaders attended this event on behalf of the “Cheryl Musgrave For Mayor” committee.
Vanderburgh County Commissioner Cheryl Musgrave made the following remarks to her enthusiastic supporters that were in attendance at this event:
Vanderburgh County Commissioner and Mayoral candidate Cheryl Musgrave told her supporters that “I love Evansville. It is a great place to live, a great place to raise a family, and grow a business”.
She also said that “I have a track record of success in making our community better. I’ve been at the frontier of applying technology to public problems and I’ve taken transformational steps for economic development. Most recently, I’ve brought a $40 million dollar investment into top-of-the-line broadband for Vanderburgh County; fiber available for every home and business.  This sets the stage for economic progress in a way that is the envy of the nation”.
Commissioner Musgrave stressed that “she is focused on economic development and job creation because the best way to build family prosperity is through a good-paying, steady job. For example, as commissioner for three terms, my initiatives on road development created a boom in housing and business construction on the northeast side. As a result, this area is growing both in population and household income”.
Mrs. Musgrave pointed out that “Regulations that drive up project costs will have my attention.  Where we need them, we will have a city government that makes them easy to navigate—and when we can do so, we’ll eliminate red tape.  And we will look at ways to use technology to streamline where we can”.
Commissioner Musgrave said “that she believes our community must be safe. Our police and fire services must have the personnel, equipment, and tools to get the job done.  You know I am a fan of what technology can do; we will deploy every means at our disposal to find criminals and introduce them to the justice system.  I’m all about safety first and I know that is built upon the talent and tools in police and fire departments and in how well we support their work.  As an inner-city resident for almost 40 years, I know this every day — and particularly every night”.
She concluded her speech by stating that “As your next Mayor, I will work to make Evansville an even better place to live, work, and do business. We will ensure that Evansville is headed in the right direction”.
The Fed Caused Inflation And Now Wants More Unemployment
BY Andrew Horning
Libertarian candidate for IN08
SEPTEMBER 30, 2022
Freedom, IN – Andrew Horning, the 2022 Libertarian Party candidate for Indiana’s 8th district US House, is not the only one who has for decades warned of the dangers of ungoverned government in general, and specifically, a malignant, corrupt central bank that funds it all.
The original design of The Federal Reserve System, while unconstitutional, wasn’t so bad when it’s only purpose was to be the quasi-private “lender of last resort,†and when the US Congress, via the Treasury, was still solely responsible for monetary policy and the issuance of money as constitutionally required. But The Fed grew worse and worse as it became a para-political hybrid, and anti-constitutional scheme, of hidden taxation to monetize political debt, and thus over-mortgage our future. A future, which by the way, is just about now.
The Fed’s stated role is now to control inflation, interest and employment rates. The fact is that their market interventions cause malinvestment through artificial market signals originating with their now complete power over the issuance and value of the US Dollar. The fact is that the Fed admitted to causing and worsening the Great Depression1, and is about to make that depression look like a minor kerfuffle.
Nobel-Prize-winning economist Milton Friedman said that “Inflation is always and everywhere a monetary phenomenon, in the sense that it is and can be produced only by a more rapid increase in the quantity of money than in output.†All serious economists have understood this for some time. So it’s understandable that Fed Chairs have, up to now, issued cryptic statements about their operations, since they’ve been lying.
Now Fed Chair Jerome Powell has made a clear statement. “There will very likely be some softening of labor market conditions,†and “We will keep at it until we are confident the job is done.†He said this understanding that it will cause a recession and pain with innumerable US citizens thrown into unemployment or early Social Security…which will cost all of us dearly.
This is not just bad economics. This is self-immolation at a time when our culture, our state of law and public trust is already on fire. Agriculture and energy infrastructure is being systematically and globally ruined. Big Pharma and politicians have destroyed public respect for science. We’re heading backwards into Follow-The-Alpha authoritarianism and domestic militarism that predates Hammurabi. This is a pivotal, dangerous, and, well…stupid situation.
For too long, there’s been no electoral advantage to being right, and no electoral disadvantage to being wrong. And for too long there have been too few willing to speak truth to power.
Well, here is some truth. Our government is now our biggest, most existential threat. It’s even worse than the Chinese Communist Party’s ongoing war with us…a war that they are winning, by the way.
We will soon be very sorry if We The People don’t make new choices in the voting booth this November.

Graduate Students Can Now Complete Training In Performing Arts With Cincinnati Ballet
EVANSVILLE, IN (09/27/2022) The Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) program at the University of Evansville (UE) has added Mercy Health in Cincinnati as a new site for immersive clinical education. With this location, students in the program now have the opportunity to work in a performing arts environment with the Cincinnati Ballet.
The rotation is already available for students completing clinical this fall, and it will continue into the coming semesters. MSAT students complete many hours of clinical hours while enrolled in the two-year graduate program to gain real-world, hands-on experience. They have the option to work at the high school, intercollegiate (Division I and II), and professional levels. Rotations are also available at hospitals and physical therapy clinics.
Adding Mercy Health will provide a new avenue for clinical rotations, as MSAT students haven’t previously been able to work with performing arts.
“We are always looking to provide our students opportunities in new and developing areas of athletic training,” said Jeff Tilly, program director and assistant professor for athletic training. “This site, along with the other locations, presents another pathway for new and exciting career opportunities.”
In addition to Mercy Health, UE also has partnerships with other universities and organizations across the nation. Current locations include Kentucky Wesleyan College, Louisville City Football Club, Northwestern University, University of Florida, Vanderbilt University, and Western Kentucky University. Classes can be completed online, so there are no geographic restrictions when it comes to a student’s rotations.
