Todd Rokita leads fellow attorneys general defending girls’ and women’s sports against the woke Left’s ‘trans-sanity’
MAY 16, 2023
Attorney General Todd Rokita is demanding the U.S. Department of Education treat Hoosier girls and women with greater respect by stopping efforts to open female sports teams to biological males.
“These leftist bureaucrats are hellbent on rewriting sex to mean gender identity,†Attorney General Rokita said. “Codifying this trans-sanity would destroy 50 years of progress toward protecting the rights of girls and women under Title IX.â€
This week, Attorney General Rokita led a 17-state letter to U.S. Education Secretary Miguel Cardona protesting the Biden administration’s assault on women’s sports.
“I am grateful to these states, led by powerful attorneys general, for standing up to this woke-leftist trans-sanity,” Attorney General Rokita said.
After successfully obtaining a court injunction against earlier administration efforts to weaken Title IX through administrative “guidance,†the letter states, the attorneys general are prepared to continue their fight in defense of girls’ sports.
In 2022, the Indiana General Assembly passed legislation to protect female athletes from being forced to compete against biological males with natural athletic advantages. Attorney General Rokita strongly supported the measure, which remains in effect, and has defended it in court.
The White House would use the new federal rules to nullify such state laws, Attorney General Rokita said.
“The Left’s assault on women’s rights would undo the very protections for which Title IX was created and that we in Indiana have fought to maintain,†Attorney General Rokita said. “These elitist-driven proposals would harm regular Hoosiers just wanting fairness for girls and women.â€
The letter is attached.
Senator Braun’s Statement on Report from Special Counsel John Durham
May 16, 2023
WASHINGTON – Senator Mike Braun released the following statement on the release of Special Counsel John Durham’s report.
“Special Counsel Durham’s report is thorough and damning: the Russia collusion investigation was a hoax from the get-go, was based on uncorroborated intel that was never corroborated, and should never have been opened. Media outlets and politicians that spread these baseless lies should issue retractions and apologies, and the politicizing of our justice system has to end.†– Senator Mike Braun

 Eastland Mall Incident (23-09154) SUMMARYÂ
May 16, 2023
UPDATE 5/15/2023: One of the juveniles arrested in this case, Braylin C. J. Underwood (16), has been waved to Adult Court regarding this incident. Underwood was booked into the Vanderburgh County Confinement Center this morning for charges of: Child in Possession of a Firearm [L5], Criminal Gang Activity [L5], and Resisting Law Enforcement [AM]. At this time, the second juvenile who was arrested will not be waved to Adult Court. The Detective’s Office is still reviewing Eastland Mall security camera footage and pending arrests are possible. We do not have a time frame on when this will occur.Â
Yesterday at 6:53 p.m., two EPD officers were sitting in the Eastland Mall parking lot (800 N. Green River Rd.) finishing a report. Officers noticed people running out of the mall yelling that ‘shots were fired.’ Around the same time, Vanderburgh County Central Dispatch begin receiving calls for a large fight involving guns. Officers rushed in and located the scene. Two Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Deputies were working off-duty within Eastland Mall during the incident and also responded to the fight; deputies reported never hearing shots fired inside of Eastland Mall before, during or after the initial run came out.Â
Eastland Mall was put on lockdown and evacuated. Officers obtained descriptions of the suspects. Officers and all responding law enforcement personnel began searching and clearing individual stores looking for possible victims and suspects. During the search, an extended handgun magazine was located near the center of the mall.Â
Four males matching the description of the suspects were detained, two of which had fled outside. A handgun was also located outside. A total of five males were transported to EPD headquarters to be interviewed. During the investigation, it was determined no shots were actually fired within Eastland Mall. This incident had the potential to be much worse if it wasn’t forÂ
the quick response of the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office and the Evansville Police Department.Â
Two juvenile males have been arrested for charges of: Disorderly Conduct and Dangerous Possession of a Firearm, a level 5 felony. This investigation is still very active and Eastland Mall security footage is still being reviewed. Once the investigation is complete, future arrests may occur.Â
