A combined shutout led the Evansville Otters past the Washington Wild Things 4-0 on Friday night at Wild Things Park.

The Otters jumped out with two runs in the top of the first inning. Jeff Gardner started it with a sacrifice fly and Travis Harrison brought in the second run with an RBI single.

Ryan Long doubled the lead in the top of the second with a two-run single to right.

That would be all the run support the Otters’ pitching staff would need as Tyler Vail and Tyler Beardsley combined to shutout the Wild Things.

Vail started the ball game and tossed six shutout innings while striking out eight and allowing just two hits en route to his second victory of the season.

Beardsley threw the final three innings in scoreless fashion earning him his first save of the year.

Taylor Bloom takes the loss after allowing four runs in 4.2 innings on seven hits allowed.
