The Old Courthouse Foundation will host an End of Summer “Lunch on the Lawn” lawn event this Friday, August 25 from 10:00 am-2:00 pm at the Old Vanderburgh County Courthouse located at 201 NW Fourth Street.

This the second Lunch on the Lawn event the Foundation has hosted this year. The organization’s May event brought several hundred people to the Old Courthouse grounds to enjoy food trucks, music and more. “Our priority is to create opportunities for the community to take advantage of the greenspace right here in the heart of downtown,” said Dennis Au, President of the Old Courthouse Foundation. The free, family-friendly event will include Live Music on the Lawn presented by Wired Coffee House and Music Venue and food for purchase from local food trucks including Dapper Pig, Papa T’s Tamales, Chef Bruce Li, River City Dawgs, Rockin’ Taco, Lolly’s Pops, Fresh. By Genes and Sassy Sweet Confections. The food trucks will be on the Fourth Street side of the Old Courthouse.

Free parking for Lunch on the Lawn will be available at 409 Ingle Street, generously provided by Jackson Kelly, PLLC, and at the Vanderburgh County Soldiers & Sailors Coliseum located on Coliseum Court.

On Friday, our Nation’s flag will fly over the cupula for the first time in several months following repairs to the flagpole. The flag flies over 216 feet above the old courthouse grounds, which creates a number of unique challenges. A break in the rope and damage to the pulley system required a professional climber to go out on top of the cupola to make the repairs. World Wide Communications Consultants, Inc. located in Newburgh, IN completed the repairs earlier this month. The cost was $800.00.

Woods and Woods, LLP located in the Old Jail adjacent to the Old Courthouse has generously donated a new 4’x6’ flag to be raised Friday morning by Steve Woods. “We are fortunate to have such a conscientious neighbor and community partner in Woods and Woods,” Said Larry Bristow, Vice President of the Foundation. “Steve saw a need and contacted us to see how he could get involved. It gets to the heart of

what the Foundation is here to promote- long-term community involvement and investment in the Old Courthouse. The Old Courthouse is here to stay and we hope that it will be vibrantly used by the community.”

The Old Courthouse Foundation is a non- profit organization whose mission is to support the preservation of the Old Courthouse and create educational programs to engage the community in the preservation effort.
