No. 15 Indiana Advances Four to Evening Finals Grote to Race for NCAA Gold

The No. 15-ranked Indiana University women’s swimming and diving team advanced four and a relay to the evening finals at the 2021 NCAA Championships on Friday morning at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

 

400 IM

Senior Josie Grote swam a career-best time of 4:05.33 to earn a spot in the Championship Final. She will be seeded fourth after entering the morning with a seed time that ranked 14th. Grote is now the third-fastest performer in program history in the event, and only trails Allysa Vavra (4:01.41) and Bailey Andison (4:02.37).

 

Junior Mackenzie Looze finished 18th overall with a time of 4:10.16. She was seeded 31st in the event.

 

200 FREESTYLE

Freshman Ella Ristic placed 30th in the preliminary heats of the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:46.72.

100 BREASTSTROKE

Junior Noelle Peplowski secured a spot in the Consolation Final of the 100 Breaststroke with a 15th-place finish in the prelims at 59.10. She was seeded 25th heading into the preliminary heats. Sophomore Emily Weiss took 22nd place with a final mark of 59.75.

 

100 BACKSTROKE

Senior Bailey Kovac placed 50th with a time of 53.87 in the 100 Backstroke prelims, an improvement of her psych sheet seed of 55th.

 

3-METER DIVE

Freshman Tarrin Gilliland finished 12th in the 3-Meter Dive prelims with a total score 327.10. She hit five dives over 50 points, including each of her final three attempts. Freshman Anne Fowler placed 13th out of the prelims with a mark of 323.40. She hit a pair of dives over 60 points and three additional dives over 50 points on the scorecards.

The 2021 NCAA Championships will continue with Hoosier representation on Friday evening with the finals of the 400 IM, 100 Breaststroke, 3-meter dive, and the 200 Medley Relay. The action gets underway at 6 p.m. ET.
