Senior Midfielder Earns Second Preseason Honor

Senior midfielder Ian McGrath of the University of Evansville men’s soccer team has been selected as a second-team preseason All-America selection by College Soccer News.

Following a junior campaign in 2016 that saw the New Lenox, Illinois native lead the Aces with a team-high 11 goals and 24 points, McGrath was tabbed by College Soccer News as a second-team preseason all-America selection. The senior is one of just two Missouri Valley Conference men’s soccer student-athletes to be named among the three preseason all-America teams, joining Loyola defender Grant Stoneman who was also named to the second team.

The honor is the second of the preseason for McGrath, who was among 61 NCAA Division I men’s soccer student-athletes selected to the Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy watch list earlier in the month. The Hermann Trophy is the highest individual award in college soccer and is presented annually to one male and one female student-athlete.  The Hermann Trophy also serves as the official NSCAA Player of the Year award in Division I soccer.

McGrath is the first Purple Ace to be named to a preseason All-America team since 2014 when midfielder Faik Hajderovic was named to TopDrawerSoccer’s preseason Best XI Third Team.
