Mayor Winnecke to Tour LST 325

EVANSVILLE, IN – On Monday, July 9, 2012, at 10:45 a.m. Mayor Lloyd Winnecke will tour the LST 325
with Chris Donahue, a member of the USS LST Ship Memorial Board of Directors. Mayor Winnecke will
discuss the current status of the ship with LST 325 board members and crew. He was invited to tour the
ship after a recent negotiating session with Donahue to discuss the city’s future relationship with LST
officials. Media representatives are welcome on the tour.

  1. Didn’t Mayor Wienie-Zapple promise us that the LST would put Evansville on the map as one of the most popular tourist venues in the Midwest? Didn’t he promise us that hordes of tourists would flock to Evansville every summer to attend veterans’ reunions and learn about the LST shipyard? But alas, not only did the hype-spewing Courier and Press fail to deliver the expected hordes of tourists, it also shielded the evil Wienie-Zapple from accountability for his failures. Does anybody really visit the LST, or is it a toy for the rapidly shrinking World War II generation.

    What the heck are we going to do with this boat when there will be no one left who wants to visit the darned thing?

    • The ship is a treasure of international celebrity. Definately don’t want Evansville to lose it.
