Obituary For Legendary Candy Maker Frederick (Fred) Germain Hermann

Frederick Germain Hermann (Fred), 93, of Evansville, peacefully passed away on June 4, 2022, at the Linda E. White Hospice House with his family by his side. On January 5, 1929, he was born in Evansville to the late Walter and Edna Irma (Fuchs) Hermann.

Fred graduated from Reitz Memorial High School in 1947 and attended the University of Evansville. After serving in the Army, he started his career at Hermann’s Candy Store on Main Street, a family business in downtown Evansville for 100 years. After selling Hermann’s Candy Store, he worked for Holsclaw Brothers.

On October 16, 1954, he married the love of his life, Betty Jo Bell. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, John, Henry, and Walter George; sisters Miriam Lattner and Edna Jane Jacobs.
He is survived by his wife Betty of 67 years, children, Steven (Karen), Daniel (Kimberly), Susan (James) Jarboe, Kent (Chrystal), and Jill (Kirk) Mitchell; 18 grandkids and 22 great grandkids.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 7 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave. Visitation will continue from 10 – 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1301 S. Green River Rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 8 at the church with Father Martin Estrada officiating.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
