“LEFT JAB AND RIGHT JAB”

“RIGHT Jab And Left Jab” was created because we have two (2) commenters that post on a daily basis either in our “IS IT TRUE” or “Readers Forum” columns concerning National or International issues.
Joe Biden and Ronald Reagan comments are mostly about issues of National interest.  The majority of our “IS IT TRUE” columns are about local or state issues so we have decided to give Mr. Biden and Mr. Reagan exclusive access to our newly created “LEFT JAB and RIGHT JAB”  column. They now have exclusively to discuss national or world issues that they feel passionate about.
We shall be posting the “LEFT JAB” AND “RIGHT JAB” several times a week.  Oh, “Left Jab” is a liberal view and the “Right Jab is representative of the more conservative views. Also, any reader who would like to react to the written comments of the two gentlemen is free to do so.

    Radical Islamist Terrorists Blamed for Sri Lanka Carnage, National Emergency Declared

    A local Islamist terrorist group called National Thowfeek Jamaath was responsible for multiple Easter Sunday suicide bomb attacks against Christians and luxury hotel guests in Sri Lanka, government officials on Monday revealed.

    Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne told a news conference that all the bombers were Sri Lankan citizens. Earlier, a government forensic crime investigator said an examination of the Islamist attackers’ body parts showed that they were suicide bombers….

    The U.S. State Department, meanwhile, warned of further attacks in a revised travel advisory, urging increased caution and adding: “Terrorist groups continue plotting possible attacks in Sri Lanka.”

    The bombings, Sri Lanka’s deadliest violence since a devastating civil war ended a decade ago on the island nation, killed at least 290 people with more than 500 wounded, on Easter Sunday.

    Most of those killed were Sri Lankans. But the three bombed hotels and one of the churches, St. Anthony’s Shrine, are frequented by foreign tourists, and Sri Lanka’s Foreign Ministry said the bodies of at least 27 foreigners from a variety of countries were recovered.

    The blast at St Anthony’s Shrine, an historic Catholic Church, was so powerful that it blew out much of the roof, leaving roof tiles, glass and splintered wood littering the floor that was strewn with bodies.

      While President Trump and several other notable leaders offer their condolences and help to Sri Lanka, democrat politicians in America go out of their way to avoid saying the words “Christian” and “churches” in their statements.

      Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama both refer to Christians as “Easter worshippers.”

        When a shooter yells “Allahu akbar” before killing innocent people, the public furor is obvious and palpable. Terror attacks by Muslims receive 375% more press attention. The perpetrator is often portrayed as a “maniac” and a representative of an inherently violent faith. In the wake of an attack committed by a Muslim, everyone from politicians to religious leaders to news anchors calls on Muslim individuals and organizations to disavow terrorism

        But when white men kill Muslims en masse, there is significantly less outrage. People try to make sense of the shooters’ vile actions, looking into their past for trauma, mental illness, or addiction that will somehow explain why they did what they did. Various news outlets humanized the shooter with bold headlines that labeled him an “angelic boy who grew into an evil far-right mass killer” or an “ordinary white man obsessed with video games,” and even “badly picked on as a child because he was chubby” Those descriptions, which evoke sympathy rather than revulsion, are reserved for white mass murderers

        Trump has REFUSED to condemn or speak out against right-wing terrorists (even in America) or condemn white supremacy. After the Christchurch attacks, millions were not taking to the streets to protest right-wing extremism. World leaders were not linking arms in a dramatic march against white supremacist terrorism. And no one was demanding that white men, in general, disavow terrorism

        But that would be unreasonable, right? To expect all white men to condemn the vile actions of an individual they don’t even know? Unreasonable though it may be, such expectations are placed on Muslims all the time

        If you are not a white supremacist, nor a bigot, nor a racist, if you truly oppose these ideologies, then you must do more than remain in your comfortable bubble. Speak up. Spread love. Fix problems on whatever level you can, to the best of your ability. If you are in a leadership position, the weight on your shoulders is heavy to not shirk your duty. To be passive, selfish, apathetic, or lazy is to enable hatred to thrive, and then, whether you intended to or not, you are on the side of the extremists. Which side are you on? Decide and act

      The French news agency AFP reported that Sri Lankan Police Chief Pujuth Jayasundara issued an intelligence alert to top officers 10 days earlier warning that suicide bombers may hit “prominent churches”

      According to the report the alert said “A foreign intelligence agency has reported that the NTJ [National Thowheeth Jama’ath] is planning to carry out suicide attacks targeting prominent churches as well as the Indian high commission in Colombo”

      The NTJ was accused of vandalizing Buddhist statues last year, but has never carried out any terrorist acts remotely as murderous and sophisticated as the coordinated bombings on Sunday

        ISIL claims responsibility for Sri Lanka attacks

        The Amaq news agency, which has links to the Islamic State militant group, reported on Tuesday that the group has claimed responsibility for Sunday’s coordinated bombing attacks in Sri Lanka.

        The agency said Islamic State fighters carried out the attacks against Christians and people from coalition countries. But it offered no further information, and gave no evidence to support the group’s claim.

        Investigators in Sri Lanka have detained 40 people, including members of an Islamic extremist group in the country. They say foreign terrorist groups were likely behind the deadly attacks.

      One month after the ACA had passed, the Office of the Actuary of the Department of Health and Human Services projected its financial impact in a report entitled “Estimated Financial Effects of the ‘Patient Protections and Affordable Care Act’,as Amended” where the government’s official record-keeper estimated that health care costs under the ACA would reach $4.14 trillion per year in 2017 and constitute 20.2 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP)

      Fast forward to December 2018, when that same office released the official tabulation of health care spending in 2017. Cumulatively from 2010 to 2017 the ACA reduced health care spending a total of $2.3 trillion. In 2017 alone, health expenditures were $650 billion lower than projected, and kept health care spending under 18 percent of GDP. It did all of this while expanding health coverage to more than 20 million previously uninsured Americans. Compared to the 2010 projections, the government’s Medicare bill in 2017 was 10 percent ($70 billion) less, and spending for Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program was a whopping $250 billion below expectations (partially due to the failure of some states to expand the program)

      Hospital readmissions for beneficiaries dropped 10.4% since the ACA became law. In one year, that drop translates into 3,789 beneficiaries who avoided an unnecessary return to the hospital. Nationally, this means that an estimated 87,000 lives PER YEAR have been saved

      HARD FACT: That equals OVER 783 million lives in nine years!

      Put another way, health care spending in 2017 was $2,000 less per person than it was projected to be. And for the 176 million Americans who have private employer-sponsored insurance, their lower premiums averaged just under $1,000 per person. Barack Obama pledged on the campaign trail and as president that he would sign a health care bill that lowered family health insurance premiums by $2,500. Conservative politicians and pundits roundly mocked him. Yet the ACA has more than delivered on that promise, saving about $4,000 per family. And these lower health care premiums probably contribute to the recent rise in workers’ wages.

      At least three trends make it hard for Americans to appreciate these lower costs. First, employers are foisting more of the cost of health insurance onto employees. Employees’ share of health premiums has gone up 32 percent since 2012 while the employer portion has gone up just 14 percent. Second, drug prices are rising and Americans are finding copays for them more and more onerous. Third, more and more Americans are enrolled in high-deductible health plans. For them, a $2,000 or $3,000 deductible is stressful even if they never actually pay it

      The ACA changed how physicians and hospitals are paid, shifting toward more value-based payments. It required reducing wasteful and expensive readmissions and encouraged efficient redesign of care. And it spurred the private sector, insurers and employers, to try their own payment reforms, such as reference pricing, to control costs

      HARD FACTS: If Trump and the right-wing get their way:

      21 million Americans could lose their health insurance if the Affordable Care Act is overturned
      133 million Americans have a pre-existing medical condition that could raise their premiums or deny them coverage altogether if they sought insurance without the protection of the Affordable Care Act
      171 million Americans no longer face caps on expensive treatments
      60 million Medicare beneficiaries would face changes to medical care and possibly higher premiums
      2 million young adults 26 and under are covered by their parents’ insurance under the Affordable Care Act
      46.5 million non-elderly Americans (17.8%) were uninsured in 2010 before the Affordable Care Act was passed, almost double the latest figures of 27 million
      42% is by how much the uninsured population has dropped under the Affordable Care Act

      Is this what MAGA looks like? Having people choose between paying rent or buying critical medication that keeps them alive? At a time when one in four Americans are forgoing needed health care because they simply can’t afford to see their doctor or buy their prescription drugs, the Trump administration is making the situation worse

      Despite constant criticism and right-wing sabotage, the Affordable Care Act has successfully expanded health insurance coverage, even though it included individuals with pre-existing conditions, and controlled runaway health care costs. We need to build on its tremendous cost-control success
