TOKYO – Eight-time NCAA Champion Lilly King earned her third Olympic medal with a bronze finish in the women’s 100m Breaststroke final at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre on Monday night.

The Hoosiers have now won 33 bronze medals at the Olympics. IU athletes have also produced 57 gold medals and 17 silvers.

WOMEN’S 100m BREASTSTROKE

Lilly King, the Olympic Games Rio 2016 gold medalist in the 100m Breaststroke, finished third behind USA teammate Lydia Jacoby (1:04.95) and Tatjana Schoenmaker (1:05.22) of South Africa. King took bronze at 1:05.54.

The Evansville, Ind., native is the fifth women in the history of the event to win multiple medals at the Olympics. She joined Soviet Union’s Galina Prozumenshchikova (1968 silver, 1972 silver), Samantha Riley of Australia (1992 bronze, 1996 bronze), Australia’s Leisel Jones (2000 silver, 2004 bronze, 2008 gold), and Rebecca Soni of the United States (2008 silver, 2012 silver) on the historic list.

Jacoby and King are the second pair of US teammates to win medals in the 100m Breaststroke in the same Olympics. King and Katie Meili (bronze) accomplished the feat in 2016 in Rio. Team USA has now earned 11 medals (4 gold, 4 silver, 3 bronze) in the event.

Competing for Team Canada, IU Class of 2019 swimmer Bailey Andison finished 18th out of the preliminary heats in the women’s 200m IM. She touched just 0.31 seconds behind the pace needed to advance to the semifinals.
