Evansville City Councilman and Budget Committee Chairman John Friend sent out a press release today calling the rates for electricity in Evansville and surrounding areas of Evansville “job killing” and cited the 20% rise in the City of Evansville’s bills as evidence.

Councilman Friend states in his release that he is inviting candidates of both parties and existing office holders to join him in sponsoring this petition. He also demands that all public hearings for increases in the future be held in SW Indiana where the rate increases requested will be felt by the rate payers both corporate and individual.

Councilman Friend in a phone interview has made it known that anyone wanting to help gather signatures can contact him at the email address on the press release for instructions. He reports are that Saturday efforts netted over 500 signatures in a matter of a few hours.

  1. Case in point, where has this guy been for the last couple years? He is now making a ruckus about everything and anything that he can. Where are the other members of the council?

  2. We need competition in the energy markets. If the politicians were serious about reigning in Vectren, they would insist on breaking up the monopoly.

  3. You have a monopoly because the powers that be say so. There is a line from AEP to Culley that could be backfed………which *could eliminate Vectren in one fail swoop.

        • Tough duty here in Venture Capital land. Thanks for keeping the comments going. Please post what happens at ERC tomorrow. We may be dealt a card from the bottom of the deck with all of that uncertainty in the latter part of the agenda.

  4. There is a combined 2600MW’s produced at that plant. For those who don’t understand what a megawatt is it is 1,000,000 watts………..take that times 2600……….. The Vectren Plants are wanting you to pay for the upgrades on there broke down P.O.S.’s that are all nearing the end of their life expectancy. By the way that is about 50 yrs. on a coal fired plant.

    • I signed John’s petition yesterday (Saturday). I guess you intended on flattering John for his idea?

  5. If you have followed my posts you would infer that he has indeed caught his breath………..

  6. Lon, Great minds run in the same channel. I did not know of your efforts, but, yesterday, my campaign workers and myself gathered over 500 signature in less than three hours in percinct 10 of Ward 5. If you like, I will be happy for you to co-sponsor my petition pertaining to Vectren high rates. I have not reviewed your petition, but, mine is published on the CCO. My movement is non-partisan. Happy for you to be a co-sponsor on my petition, and I, likewise on yours. This has nothing to do with politics, but, everything concerning good public policy, and econonic well-being of the people we service and care about. Finally, I want to congratulate our awareness of the issue concerning Vectren’s high utility rates and we must encourage other elected officials and soon elected officials to join our cause. Regards, John Friend, CPA, 5th Ward City Councilman, Chairman of the Finance Committee.

    • John, since this is a non-partisan issue, that sounds like a great idea. Be glad to co-sponsor yours and you can co-sponsor mine. Mine reads about the same as yours. I will have petitions to sign at the Fall Festival.

      • Glad to see both of you taking up the cause for the people here in SW Indiana (it’s amazing the ideas that come forth during a election year!)…..Lon, watch out I’m sure Missy will get on board with this and claim it as a original idea of her’s as soon as one of her puppet masters calls and tells her which side of the fence she’s on. 😉
