Ivy Tech to Showcase New Technology Equipment

Ivy Tech Community College and the Southwest Indiana Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon cutting ceremony tomorrow, Friday, October 23, at 7:15 a.m. (CST) to showcase over $1 million in new equipment that the College has purchased to enhance the hands-on learning experience of its students. A portion of the equipment, $25,000 worth, was purchased thanks to a generous donation from Vectren Corporation in honor of the late William (Bill) S. Doty.

The equipment purchased includes a 3D Printer, Fanuc robot, mechanical learning systems, laser shaft alignment system, pneumatics and hydraulics learning system, AC/DC electrical learning systems, vertical machining centers, CNC lathes, virtual reality welding simulators, and more!

 

Students in Ivy Tech’s Industrial Technology Program, Advanced Automation and Robotics Technology Program, Automotive Program, Welding Program, Energy Technology Program, and the new Machine Tool Technology Program, will all utilize and benefit from the new machinery.

 

“Our experience shows that students absorb more when what they read in a textbook is reinforced by hands-on training,” said Ivy Tech Chancellor Jonathan Weinzapfel. “We want to ensure that our students are learning on state-of-the-art equipment which will benefit them immeasurably once they enter their chosen industry.”
