IS IT TRUE? September 9, 2011

IS IT TRUE that there was a ribbon cutting at a new hotel in the City of Evansville last night?…that the old private label hotel adjacent to the area where the old Evansville Airport terminal building that auctioned off for a song last year has finally found an owner that knows how to succeed in the hospitality business?…that Dunn Hospitality unveiled their newly refurbished Hampton Inn last night with a grand opening reception that was second to none?…that the rooms in this Hampton Inn are furnished and sized in a way that would cost over $200 per night in Chicago with HD flat screen televisions, deep mattresses, and modern décor?…that this total refurbishment was completed in just under a year?…that it has been widely publicized in the current campaign for Mayor of Evansville that refurbishment is more expensive and takes longer than building new?

IS IT TRUE that when private investors with experience and capital decide on a project as Dunn Hospitality did on this Hampton Inn that actions happen fast, on budget, and that the long term success of the venture is greatly enhanced?…that if the cast of elected and appointed officials that have blundered through the all too familiar litany of problems in getting real traction for a downtown Convention Hotel would have used the same analytical and marketing skills that Dunn Hospitality employs that the people of Evansville would be better off for it?…that the City County Observer wishes to congratulate the Dunn Hospitality Group for seeing an opportunity and going for it?…that this new Hampton Inn will be a big plus for the beautification of our North 41 Corridor?

IS IT TRUE that if Lloyd Winnecke becomes Mayor of Evansville that his opponent Rick Davis seems to be training for a bright future as a stand-up comic?…that in Wednesday night’s debate that Davis earned the CCO Johnnie Cochran Award for his catchy quip “THE STATUS QUO HAS GOT TO GO”?…that at yesterday’s Chamber breakfast the funny one liners just kept rolling off of the lips of Davis when he opened his monologue with a trilogy that would make Johnny Carson chuckle in his grave?…that in the space of a minute Davis cracked a joke about how he is a Democratic Union Supporter and that he knows just how much the chamber loves such things and followed it up by a self deprecating barrage about never owning a business and driving an American made pickup truck?…that aside from the real issues which merit continuous analysis, the CCO is pleased to see the candidates mixing it up in ways that are entertaining?…that adding a little humor has always been a good way to get people to listen to a message?

IS IT TRUE that we all know that the economy is bad and that rather than look to official government statistics or listen to politicians we suggest that the American people look at what businesses are doing to attract customers?…that just yesterday amid the hoopla of another round of stimulus like actions that mega retailer WALMART has instituted a LAYAWAY PLAN like the days of old before people had plastic money in their pockets?…that WALMART is well known for razor thin margins and creating financial success in what many people call the real America?…that WALMART’s new layaway plan is design to draw Christmas shoppers who are buying selected items over $15 that exceed a total of $50.00 per total transaction?…that when WALMART starts a LAYAWAY PLAN you know the economy is bad?

  1. Does anyone know how much money the Mainstreet Democrats raised at their fundraiser last night and what candidates they are financially backing?

      • do we have to know the Secret Handshake ? Seems like this group would want to broadcast a big haul and their slate from the highest mountaintop ! Oh, wait: they drank up all of the proceeds last night (see attached bar tab), and were too woozy to actually name a slate ? Say it isn’t so !

        • You can look it up when the financial reports are filed. Or ask one of the moles. I’m quite sure they will tell you even if they don’t have a clue.

          • sounds like an exciting bunch of guys in suits and ties slapping each other on the back. I am sure the City Clerk will be very excited to file that report !

    • At least with the Mainstream Dems we can find out how much they raise simply by viewing their finance report when it’s filed with the county clerk. Not so with the JFK Club, who is having their own massive benefit for Rick Davis this weekend. We can’t find out how much the JFK Club PAC raises for Davis, because they are not on file with the county clerk, and have never filed the required financial report.

      • Rick Davis is a charter memeber of the JFK Club founded in 2008. The JFK club has a webpage

        http://thejfkclub.com/

and the “massive benefit” you claim is actually a “family fun day” tomorow at Burdette park with $25 admission for a family of 4. All of this info is online and very easy to find. This all powerfull JFK club had their wennie wagon towed from the Fall Festival last year by orders supposedly from Central Committee.

        • None of your downplaying of the JFK Club family fun day event negates the fact that Rick Davis is sending out campaign information under the JFK Club letterhead, signed by Rick Davis, candidate for mayor, and inviting people to campaign events that raise money that then is directed to the Rick Davis campaign for mayor, and to other political candidates, all of which makes the JFK Club a political action committee subject to all the same requirements to file a financial statement with the clerk.

  2. For once I completely agree with the CCO. After reviewing his jobs and parks plans it is obvious Davis is a comedian. Lets get him signed up for the Bob & Tom Comedy All-Stars pronto

    • Here’s the bit of failed humor from Davis that I like the most. When he was asked by the Chamber of Commerce to list the three highest priorities for his administration (should he be “fortunate enough to be elected mayor”), Rick Davis replied in part, “I’ve never owned a business, and fourth I’ve drive an American made truck, not some fancy foreign car.”

Isn’t it hilarious that Davis disregards the fact that small businesses are the engine that drives the American economy, and right now they are the segment of American business most hurt by recession? Isn’t it hilarious that Davis ridicules anyone who works hard enough to earn the standard of living that enables them to purchase whatever kind of car they prefer to purchase in a country where freedom of choice is a sacred value?

Basically, what Rick Davis reveals with his not so funny humor is that he looks down his nose at small business owners, and holds himself to be superior to anyone who owns a “foreign” vehicle as he drives around town all day, campaigning on county time, in his Mexican or Canadian made Dodge pick-up. Funny stuff, Rick.

      • Yeah, and I hear their going to serve Puppy Soup at the family fun day—get a life teaparty, your depends are leaking and your pathetic drivel is running down your leg.

        • I see it reduced you to a next to nothing, no content, low brow response. Is that all you got? You inability to counter my allegatons just proves what I said is true.

          • News Flash! considering the source, your allegations mean Nothing, and carry absolutely NO creditibility, except with your “Darkside Democrat” pals.
            Blather on!

Not really many suits and ties, a few. Not much backslapping. Bar bill not bad. Just a group people having a good time, raising campaign funds for the candidates we support. We will turn in the finacial report on time and to the COUNTY CLERK. Maybe that’s why nobody can find the JFK report, they probly listen to someone like you who knows everything and turned it into the city clerk.

    • Waitamin: don’t sweat it–those two Clerks Offices have a reciprocal agreement: they trade piles of documents each day intended for the other.

      • Beerguy
Sorry, I don’t hang out at the civic center that much. But when I have to go there on official business I know the office that I need.

    • Glad you all had good time raising campaign funds for the candidates your PAC supports. Why not identify now the candidates supported by your PAC? Maybe Beerguy, Pressanykey, Crash and I will like the candidates and come to your next fundraiser. Why wait to a filing deadline to disclose who the PAC supports??

      • You will know before the campainge report is filed. You said you were going to be there last night
        Watching the game.i

        • waitamin: I was there with Kim-Jong. Great gumbo ! Also, Joe Biden’s girlfriend with the blonde hair is smokin’ hot (blondes are Kim-Jong’s kryptonite).

          • By the sound of the school yard insults that you throw at each other you guys must hold mission-critical jobs that have single-handedly decreased Vanderburgh’s unemployment to less than four percent, and a skyrocketing, double-digit GDP growth rate for the tri-state area.
