IS IT TRUE that a legal notice appeared in the Courier last Saturday giving notice that Dunn Hospitality LLP was disbanding?…one of the big supporters for the people in favor of the gifting of $37.5 Million sent this notice to the CCO in hopes that the CCO would run with it without checking it out?… we have a  policy of  checking all rumors out and learned that this was a LLP that was the holding company for a hotel that Dunn Hospitality had sold last winter and that the shell had served its purpose and was being shut down?…we further learned that this shell has no effect whatsoever on the day to day operations of Dunn Hospitality?

IS IT TRUE we notified the supporter that there was no story to tell and told her all of the details?…in spite of having no story and telling this person directly that there was no story this morning we received and email stating that another person was told at a social event last night that “the CP had a notice that Dunn Hospitality is shutting down”?…the CCO admonishes all of the supporters of this hotel gift to cease with this whisper campaign of lies and concentrate on doing some real financial analysis if they wish to engage in productive and substantive conversations about the reality of subsidized hotels?

  1. Here is some information that IS correct:

    _______

    Bureau of Labor Statistics

    Union Members Summary

    For release 10:00 a.m. (EST) Wednesday. January 23, 2013 USDL-13-0105

    UNION MEMBERS — 2012

In 2012, the union membership rate–the percent of wage and salary workers who were members of a union–was 11.3 percent, down from 11.8 percent in 2011, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.

The number of wage and salary workers belonging to unions, at 14.4 million, also declined over the year. In 1983, the first year for which comparable union data are available, the union membership rate was 20.1 percent, and there were 17.7 million union workers.

So here is a tip of the hat to ALL workers, including that 88.7% so often ignored by local media. Enjoy your holiday weekend.

  2. This entire post was taken down by the CCO Publisher because the remarks posted by Mycroft were low class, insulting and demeaning to Phyllip Davis. I think people should judge Mr. Davis for what he is presently doing with his life. I’m glad to see Mr. Davis standing up and speaking his mind. I do believe he is forcing open dialog important to the future direction of this great city. In fact as Publisher of the City County Observer I would be honored if Mr. Davis would join me in our upcoming “Mole Award” lunch on Oct. 14, 2013 as my special guest. I just might make arrangements for you to sit next to Brad Linzy.

Phillip keep speaking up for what you believe in because this is what makes a community great. Oh, I also I’m hearing from many people that you are a good person and work hard for the betterment of this community.

Finally, Mycroft if I ever see another comment like you made against Mr. Davis I shall ban you from this site.

    • I’ll take you up on the offer. I hope that attending your luncheon will give me understanding and help me find common ground with you. Thank you for the offer.

  3. I make no apologies for my past. You can put all the pictures of me you want up. We have all made mistakes and as long as we have breath we can change. I am not responsible for the Pro-EPD page, but I do support it. I also support any effort that tries to bring our community together. It’s nice to be so important to you that you’re trying to smear me. Regards.

    • I would agree with this for the most part. We’ve all made mistakes. Hopefully the Council doesn’t make another one with regard to the hotel.

The rhetoric of “bringing the community together” is missing the mark though. This isn’t a hippie folk festival, it’s a hotel.

    • Mr. Davis, please realize it was a comment that posted those links and not the CCO. We are pleased that you have moved beyond the silliness of youth and are doing something you feel passion for in this community.

    • No one was judging, friend-when you’re doing what you feel is right, and it doesn’t necessarily further someone else’s agenda? You’ll know who they are by what they try to spit on you.
      Keep on keepin on.

  4. What’s funny is that neither of these arrests resulted in a conviction. The one from 2003 was from someone trying to fight me at Rookies. I restrained him and the arresting officer concurred, but they still took me in under zero tolerance for disturbances at a nightclub. The prosecutor quickly dropped all charges. The 2005 incident was for cursing while trying to explain my custody situation with my children. I was obviously passionate about the subject and went to jail for saying the “f” word. The definition of disorderly is so vague that me saying that in a conversational tone to the officer was worthy of being arrested in his opinion. I still contend that my race had something to do with that or maybe they take that southern gentleman stuff pretty seriously.

    • Seems like a valid explanation to me. I do wonder why then, given your experience of being arrested just for saying the F word, you’d be carte blanche in support of the EPD. Why not join those calling for a better approach to handling complaints and issues, including the race issues?

Not trying to get your back up here. I’m genuinely curious. Different subject from the hotel.

  5. Also, I’m not the creator of the pro-hotel page, but I’m responsible for 95% of the content outside of its first 18 hours of existence. I don’t spread rumors. Someone asked me about Dunn dissolving on Thursday and I told them that I hadn’t heard that and I doubt it. I want Dunn to succeed as a company. They have a history of being great community partners in Evansville. I only post something if it has been verified by a reliable source. I know that Dunn paid their employees for being there because I asked people at the meeting. I know that they don’t pay tax on the airport hotel, because I verified with the proper authorities. I know that John Dunn threatened out museums to make a public statement against the hotel because I know the directors and/or board members of the organizations. I have always tried to be as open and forthcoming as possible.

    P. S. Brad, check your Facebook inbox.

    • Thanks for the great phone discussion, Phyllip. I can foresee a time we’ll find something we agree on and work together. You’re a good man.

  6. Thanks CCO Publisher for you kind remarks about Mr. Davis.

I’m planning to attend the CCO awards lunch and would like to meet Mr. Davis personally.

Now let the posts continue in an open and civil manner.

  7. Thanks CCO Publisher for standing up Mr. Davis. I don’t agree with his stance on the hotel issue but I too support his rights to speak his mind on this subject.

  8. Glad to hear that Brad and Mr. Davis talked today. Hope both men find common ground because they indeed force needed dialog which shall force needed chance within the political system here locally.

I’m also very impressed by the stance and statement made by the CCO Publisher about the negative comments made about Mr. Davis. You show that the CCO stands for a sense of fairness.

  9. Hey CCO check this out and report back: Some of Dunn’s employees testified they did not support the convention hotel at the last public meeting at CK Newsome Center. Is it correct Dunn paid his employee’s to attend this meeting and oppose the hotel?

After some of the Museum employee’s publicly supported the convention hotel at the last public meeting, did Dunn call them and say he was going to withhold his finanicial support to them if they did not withdraw their support of the hotel?

    • Overtime is paid by law the last time I checked Yeller. If you were a patron of a charity and that charity takes an action that hurts your business wouldn’t you cross them off the gift list? I would.
