“IS IT TRUE” OCTOBER 7, 2019

1

We hope that today’s “IS IT TRUE” will provoke honest and open dialogue concerning issues that we, as responsible citizens of this community, need to address in a rational and responsible way?

IS IT TRUE that Evansville became gunshot city in the wee hours of Saturday night and Sunday morning on October 6, 2019?…in three separate incidents, 6 human beings suffered gunshot wounds in Evansville?.
IS IT TRUE in a parking lot of the Chestnut Street off of Walnut at the Otis Stone American Legion post 5 people and four cars were hit by gunfire at approximately around 3 am?  …all five of the injured were offered medical care and two of them refused the offer?…the other three reportedly have serious injuries?…it is fortunate that no one had died yet but it seems as though the intent to kill was real?…the alleged shooter took off on foot and was quickly apprehended by the Evansville Police Department?…the runaway shooter of course already had a history of criminal activity and has been charged with attempted murder?
IS IT TRUE that in a separate incident at about the same time on the south side of town another shooting happened to leave only one person with a bullet wound?…the shooting happened on East Riverside Drive and South Fares Avenue? ..these six shootings come one week after another perp was quoted by the EPD as saying “It’s Evansville” to explain why he was packing a gun?…indeed it is Evansville but it seems more like South Chicago, Baltimore, or St. Louis?  …we give five (5) cheers to our men and woman in blue for their outstanding police work for quickly apprehending these thugs and putting them where they belong, behind bars?
IS IT TRUE there was also a 3rd shooting at Bartlett and Oregon around 11 p.m. The victim showed up at a local hospital with a gunshot wound.
IS IT TRUE that the CEO of the Evansville Convention and Vistors Bureau makes around $125,000 per year not including benefits and perks? …we are told that several individuals serving in elected and appointed positions in Vanderburgh County want this high paying cushy public sector job?
IS IT TRUE that the Evansville DMD recently presented the possibility of building 175 Living Units and a Grocery Store in the North Main area?  …attached is the video of the Evansville Redevelopment Commission discussing this issue? …at 17:55 on the attached video, the discussion of this subject starts?

IS IT TRUE many people are wondering why do the Evansville DMD/ERC officials continue to subsidizing housing units, loft apartments, facade grants, low-interest loans, tax abatements in both downtown and North Main street?  …someone needs to inform the officials at the Evansville DMD/ERC that Evansville has a Westside, Eastside, Center City and a far Northside area of town that could use their assistance?

IS IT TRUE we get the impression that the officials at the Evansville DMD/ERC think that the IU Medical School-Evansville has an enrollment of 2000 students?  …we wonder if this is the reason why they feel there is an immediate need for new offices and apartments downtown proper?

IS IT TRUE we been told that our elected officials are spending money from the local TIF funds by leaps and bounds?  …in fact, they remind us of kids shopping in a candy store?

IS IT TRUE that former President of the Vanderburgh County Commissioner, Bruce Ungethiem, current Vanderburgh County Commissioner President, Ben Shoulders, and County Engineer, John Stoll, recently attended AIC Conference (Association of Indiana Counties) awards dinner in French Lick, IN?…that Vanderburgh County was the ONLY County in the state of Indiana, among 92 Counties, to win the coveted “Outstanding Achievement Award”?  …this award recognized Vanderburgh County for its work in 2017 to the present on new County road projects, road repairs and road paving, and extensive work done on infrastructure projects?

IS IT TRUE we feel that there are many student-athletes who are participating in long-distance running events on the high school and college level that would greatly benefit by attending a long-distance running clinic conducted by former Olympian Anne Audain?  …we are totally convinced that there numerous local long-distance runners that would greatly improve their running skills by also attending a one-on-one training session with Anne Audain?  …if you know a student-athlete that would benefit in a long-distance running seminar or training session conducted by Olympian Anne Audain please contact the City-County Observer@live.com?

IS IT TRUE we hope that the investors building new hotels in downtown Evansville have considered the DoubleTree Hotel vacancy rate?

IS IT TRUE that the State Board of Accounts states that routinely overdrawn funds could be an indicator of serious financial problems of a municipal entity that should be investigated by the unit?

IS IT TRUE that our “Readers Poll” is non-scientific but trendy?

Today’s “Readers Poll” question is:  Would you support a home owned non-partisan newspaper that is printed 3 days a week?

  1. Does the American Legion shooting with 5 injuries count as a mass shooting? If I understood the media that 4 or more injuries are considered a mass shooting.
Here to a speedy recovery for the victims.
Here to a long prison sentence to the convicted felon that committed the shooting.
Also a tip of the hat to the first responders (Police Fire EMS Hospital personnel) for their handling of the scene and victims.
