IS IT TRUE OCTOBER 2, 2015

IS IT TRUE looks like DMD Director Kelly Coures  has found a reason to defer a vote asking City Council to approve the proposed $13 to $15 million dollar North Main project?  …Mr. Cources announced yesterday that he has discovered that tracks used by “Trolley Cars” on North Main in the 1940’s have been paved over by past City Administrations?  ...since the “Trolley Cars” track discovery Mr. Coures stated the project contractors must revisit their bids which will take additional time because the tracks must be removed?  …this delay will defer the decision  for the present Council City to vote on this project until after the fall election?  …we hear that Mayor Winnecke expects that his slate of City Council candidates will win?  … if this happens he will be able to take total control of Council which means he shall get any future capital project approvals he desires?

IS IT TRUE we wonder whats the status of the dilapidated and vacant CVS building located on North Main and Columbia Street?  …do you think its reasonable to assume that ERC and the DMD Director Kelley Coures would have concrete plans to develop this $535,000 piece of property by now?  …we wonder if anyone in the private sector would had paid  $535,000 for a piece of property located in a questionable part of town without any concrete plans to develop it?

IS IT TRUE that the Mayor’s blight initiative also wants to put the City of Evansville’s Brownfields into the real-estate and rehab business to fund their clandestine operations? …the plan includes transferring the tax sale properties to the EBC without the opportunity for the private sector to bid.? …that the EBC again has no employees and can only skim a pass through fee off the top as they select what private enterprise gets the project? …the Mayor needs to get out of the enterprise business and get back to government?

IS IT TRUE the Mayors DMD started promoting this program more than a year ago? …that DMD tried to use the blight and tax sale issue “stop the tax sale” to promote their own EBC agenda? ….the team went to Detroit not to work on the blight issue but to study developing and selling the expansion of “needed land banking is also “needed” for funding the EBC? …that they have taken this “show on the road ” and it is now consuming a major portion of the DMD Director Kelley Coures and his staff’s valuable time?

IS IT TRUE that George Lumley the proprietor of “LETS FIX THAT” fame wants to promote more ” Rent To Grow verses Pay To Mow” operations on the land banked properties in Evansville? …that a current land banked property owned by the city is rented as a soybean growing operations? … that this venture brings in around $5,000 in annual revenue to the city? …this venture is accomplished with existing city Land Banking operations and not connected with a Brownfields expansion?

IS IT TRUE the City-County Observer is excited to announce that our annual CCO “OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD”  luncheon for 2015.will be held on October 26, 2015 at Tropicana-Evansville Walnut rooms A and B.? …this years winners of the “Outstanding Community Services Award” are: Vanderburgh County Commissioner Joe Kifer, well respected local Attorney Joe Harrison, Jr, Indiana State Auditor Suzanne Crouch and former Vanderburgh County Sheriff and 8th District Congressmen Brad Ellsworth, Dr. Dan Adams, Dr Steven Becker MD, Tracy Zeller, Holly Dunn and Cheryl Musgrave who currently sits on the Vanderburgh County Board of Zoning Appeals and also is a Commissioner on the Evansville Redevelopment Commission? … registration begin at 11:30 am, the event officially starts at 12 noon on October 26, 2015? …reservations for this event may be obtain by calling Mollie Drake Schreiber at 812-760-4233 or e-email her at mdarke07@yahoo.com. 1. I didn’t know Evansville ever had “trolleys”. Street cars and interurbans, yes, trolleys, no.

    • We had man types in Evansville, going back many years. In my lifetime I rode the the buses that were supplied by overhead electrical lines that powered them, which is the definition of a “trolley”.

      • Press, go back a few more years and the “trolley” was called a “streetcar”, powered by overhead power lines, through a “trolley”. the streetcar ran on rails. I rode one to Central High.

      • Their largest concern should be the old archaic mandated combined sewers and 100 year old water mains along that mess. If you don’t have functioning climate resilience your not going to get much real profitable commerce along the few blocks there north main.
The day will come soon when Evansville gets hit with another major rain event, They should start fining them for the CSO discharges steady. Force the adaptation and cut the fluff project crap such as a north main bike trail.
Today while monitoring the events hitting the eastern seaboard, wow, something like that would wash most of Evansville down river with its CSO. Looking at that I don’t agree with the models showing the hurricane going as much north as they show it, to me it looks like it might follow its food source (warmest sea surface temperatures) If that happens Being between Myrtle beach and Virginia beach is going to get really rough.
Hope the thing misses landfall good grief they are already flash flooding all the way up the coast. Anyhow, where we are modeling out there we’ll recover some information on the climate change vapor energy increases.

  2. “Rent to grow versus pay to mow”? Has a nice ring to it.
Rented for $5,000 annually as soybean growing operations???

    • Unused cemetery plots. This is one of the land banking ideas that makes sense. It is a massive collection of future plots not yet used located south of Morgan. Most vegetable growing operations around here don’t use very much land. I have even seen some modern glass green houses (commercial) that would look quite nice in the inner city. Evansburg is not New York city yet, let market forces breathe and don’t force people to live where they do not want to, while we pay a huge subsidy.

      • Thanks George. I was trying to visualize where this soybean field was downtown.

        • I would call it -MID TOWN – Middle way between the old town and the new town on the East side. Evansville looks like it took a lesson from an Native American tribe. I read in a book where being mobile worked pretty good for some tribes. When the stench in camp got two strong they simply moved camp. Evansville moved camp but too many stragglers stayed behind.

      • George:

Many years ago a trustee of the cemetery wanted to expand Oak Hill Cemetery into that undeveloped area. Of course that would require streets and curbs and sewers to carry the rainwater away. There was not enough sewer capacity out there to handle the increase. Weinbach Ave. always flooded during rains and it took a long time for it to go away. Needless to say the expansion had to be shelved until the sewers caught up in the area, which happened only a short time ago.

  3. Congratulations to all of the Mole Award winners. I have a conference in Beverly Hills that day or I would come to Evansville for the event.

  4. BREAKING NEWS–all three of the defendants in the Shane Breedlove murder are released from jail/ Vandyco prosecutor dropped the charges. Turns out they arrested these men based on a statement by a 17 year old girlfriend of the son of the father/son duo arrested, and she stated she would not testify at trial. A blemish for Nick Hermann.

    • Not just Hermann, this is another big blemish on Bolin’s EPD. They pinned their entire case on a 17 year-old girl and arrested some people with NO evidence whatsoever. It was obvious 2 months ago when they sealed the warrant from public view. Unbelievably crappy police work. They spread a bunch of rumors in an effort to bolster their flimsy case, hoping the court of public opinion would support them. And most of the Evansville mouth breathers did just that. To them, the police can do no wrong, even when they trample all over the civil rights of the people.
But whatever. Bolin will take some kids to Disney World and everyone will think he’s Saint Justice.

    • A blemish for Billy Bolin too. They made a knee jerk arrest to deflect from the bad press about the Milan case.

      • I had heard that too at the very beginning that these arrests were made so the people would stop blasting Bolin for what happened with the Milab case – kind of needed to change the topic. And now look – – all three have been released.. Seems strange…

    • How is it a blemish on Hermann? Didn’t his office drop the charges and release the men? Isn’t that how a prosecutor is supposed to do it? Are you saying he should have done nothing given the testimony of the girlfriend?

  5. I didn’t feel the three arrests would stick. Just didn’t seem right. Three lawsuits very soon!

  6. Is it true that Billy Bolin has officers ON THE CLOCK AND/OR RECEIVING TIME AND A HALF at Bennett Motors today? Is it true this seems to be a prefect example of why the city finds itself in such a financial crunch after 4 years of this ineptness?

Is it true we wonder why Keystone Billy is wasting taxpayer money to have officers at this fundraiser?

      • @admin: can’t find the ‘Weekend Open Forum’. Where is it ?

Need to put that forum in the ‘Is It True’ icon so that it is prominent

  7. All You Need To Know About The 2015 Evansville Mayoral Election:

The empty suit is going to get another four years because the wealthy chamber types control the candidate selection process. I am fairly certain their hope is that by the end of his next term all the tracks of the previous administrations eight years of wheeling and dealing will be sufficiently covered and the blissfully ignorant public will remain compliant to their scheming ways.

The purpose of an establishment newspaper:
“the conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power … we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons … who pull the wires which control the public mind.” (E. Bernays)
