IS IT TRUE please take time and vote in our current unscientific but trendy “Readers Poll” on who do you want to be the next Mayor of Evansville?  …so far the results are interesting?

IS IT TRUE on Wednesday we ask Sgt. Jason Cullum of the Evansville Police Department  to explain the mission of “Cops Connecting with Kids”?  … EPD Sgt.  Jason Cullun said;  “We raise money on behalf of IRS approved non-profits that provide services to kids and low income families?   …he also added that “The money raised goes directly to those entities”?  “Our efforts are in the same spirit as other groups who have raised money on behalf of Easter Seals, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Santa Clothes Club, and other non-profits”?

IS IT TRUE we assume by Mr. Cullum evasive and vague answers to the above question is that the charitable fundraising entity called  “Cops Connecting with Kids” used to promote meaningful charitable fundraising activities on behalf of the EPD amd may not be incorporated or registered with the Indiana Secretary of State or isn’t approved by the IRS as Not-For-Profit organization?  …if our assumption is incorrect we welcome Mr. Cullum to come forward with the correct information?

IS IT TRUE on Wednesday  we also ask Sgt. Jason Cullum of the Evansville Police Department if EPD pay any employees for working at the Bennett Motors Charitable Fundraising event?‏  …Mr. Callum response was; “Over the course of this event, there were officers who were there on their own time and officers who were on their regularly scheduled work day.”  “There was one uniform officer at the event each day working on an overtime basis”.  “The funding mechanism for the officers who were on city time is the same as in past cases.” Those cases include 911 Gives Hope Toy Drive, The Shriner’s Festival, The Nut Club Fall Festival, and the Together We’ll Stop The Violence Dust Bowl”. “The impact these events have on our community is great and they all serve as great opportunities for local non-profits to raise money to help our community”. “All of these events allow us to create new community partnerships, interact with members of the community, strengthen bonds, and build new ones”.

IS IT TRUE we want to stress we are very appreciative that members of the EPD  feel duty bound to go beyond the call of duty to help the less fortunate of this community?  ….we also know that members of the FOB are doing an outstanding job in doing so?  …we feel that any future charitable fundraising activities put on behalf of the EPD sponsored entity should be incorporated or registered with the Indiana Secretary of State, have a performance bond and proper liability insurance and approved by the IRS as a not-for-profit organization?

IS IT TRUE we  respectfully suggest that in the future that Mr. Cullum consider providing individuals and organizations who have financially contributed to  “Cops Connecting with Kids”  fundraising events  with assurance  that the  funds were used for the intended purpose?   …Informing them that donations made to a EPD sponsored charity events can be written write off as a tax deductible charitable contributions with the IRS?

IS IT TRUE we once again want to thank members of our local EPD for helping the less fortunate of this community?

IS IT TRUE the City-County Observer is excited to announce that our annual CCO “OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD” luncheon for 2015.will be held on October 26, 2015 at Tropicana-Evansville Walnut rooms A and B.? …this years winners of the “Outstanding Community Services Awards” are: Vanderburgh County Commissioner Joe Kifer, well respected local attorney Joe Harrison, Jr, Indiana State Auditor Suzanne Crouch and former Vanderburgh County Sheriff and 8th District Congressmen Brad Ellsworth, Dr. Dan Adams, Dr Steven Becker MD, Tracy Zeller, Holly Dunn and Cheryl Musgrave who currently sits on the Vanderburgh County Board of Zoning Appeals and also is a Commissioner on the Evansville Redevelopment Commission? … registration begin at 11:30 am, the event officially starts at 12 noon on October 26, 2015? …reservations for this event may be obtain by calling Mollie Drake Schreiber at 812-760-4233 or e-email her at mdarke07@yahoo.com. Deadline for registration is October 15, 2014.? … the last five (5) events were sellouts.

    • You’re a lib – you hate the police, we get that. I wonder: how long is your record?

      • I don’t hate the police, I’m just not a cheerleader ball washer like you. The fact is we’re living in a fascist police state that would make Adolph Hitler blush. There were plenty of “I support team blue” rally equivalents in the leadup to the Holocaust. Your willingness to let them wipe their asses with the constitution because it makes you feel safe is nothing but sheep behavior.

        • EB, you Sir are, with all due respect, hit with a direct dose of liberal fairy dust like the Occupy Wall Street socialists. Your disrespect of LEO is the classic symptom. The other symptom is blaming the working folks = taxpayers for your free ride.

          • Never had one penny in public assistance, not even student loans. Nice try though.

          • You are in over your head, Mr. Vice-President. Comrade Ghost’s brilliant reply shows why. It is true that he has never received one penny in public assistance: he has received many millions of pennies in public assistance! I am delighted to have been assigned to a community where we have progressives capable of keeping up with the great masters of dishonesty, like former President Bill Clinton.

        • No. It’s owebama that wipes his ass with the Constitution. And now he is forming an “Global Police Force. He will be importing them into the US. Not really to police us but more likely to enforce sharia law.
I’ve read a number of your posts regarding police: You do hate them.

          • Sharia law. Republicans will love it. Murder gays, minorities, and keep women locked in the kitchen!

        • Ah Steve, AKA Tom, AKA Bob, I pit you for harboring so much hate in your heart. God love you.

  1. Tired,
Mr. Editor I think all eyes have been taken off of the prize. I am sure the money collected by the EPD function although admirable is not covered by non – for profit status and is not recognized by the IRS. Therefore I will be contacting an IRS investigator to investigate deductions made by Bennett Motors, his Museum, other entities, which have given to Cops connecting with Kids, along with Officer Cullum and Chief Bolin. End of that story…
My issue is this crime being up 28%, a Murder investigation that allowed 3 suspects charged go free, and the bungled SWAT raid that will end up costing an estimated 6 figures, shouldn’t these Officers be assigned to what I am paying taxes for. Also shouldn’t the department head (Chief) and Mayor take responsibility. I have never been a political person but let’s hope these questions are asked/answered before the election in November.
    Thank you

  2. Paying the officers time and a half is one of the perks of the job. Whether it is fair or not that they have this benefit and other employees do not is a separate issue from this event. I seem to be in the minority of posters here that think some of the perks like take home police cars are good cost effective public policy. I am curious how many paid officers were considered needed for crowd control and public message broadcasting at this event. Sometimes the best intentions turn into abuse. I like the local theme of not being affiliated with a national organization where you raise the money, submit it to them, and then get half of it back.

    • I have no problem with take-home vehicles for officers who live within the jurisdiction. My problem is with EPD cars going to homes outside of the City, and especially outside of the County.

      • She is a better cop than any political plant from Vanderburgh county. I expect mote from u elkaybee.

  3. ” I like the local theme of not being affiliated with a national organization where you raise the money, submit it to them, and then get half of it back.” (George Lumley)

    * * * * * * * * *

I often make the same argument about federal and state government. It would be a rare case when we get even half of it back locally.

  4. Does anyone even notice that the EPD chooses to use the MOST EXPENSIVE mode of travel available. If – for instance – these special students were to use EVSC bus transportation, the money they would save on TRAVEL expenses would allow the organization to “help” twice as many needy children, maybe three times as many.

    • You’re talking about an organization that has a budget for hummers, tanks, and rocket launchers and claims they can’t afford body cameras. Not to mention gas for them all to drive to Warrick County. My point is that I don’t think they care too much about managing costs.

      • Kind of like our federal government except the Fed’s squander billions and billions.

          • But very little fit “the loo east of these”, the handicapped. I know whereof I speak. We are not a voting bloc, we being poo parents. We are too busy with our forgotten children…forgotten by funding. It’s the first thing to get cut.

  5. And why only do this for one or two of the schools.. There are so many kids in every school that that would love a chance to go to Disney.. And if our tax dollars are paying for some of this fundraiser – – why not all the schools have a chance?

  6. Off topic, but went by the McCurdy to check on progress. Lots of activity, including removal of many bricks from the South roof side. It’s still hard to imagine the building is salvageable.

  7. In response to the question “Who do you want to be the next Mayor of Evansville?”, my answer is “None of the current candidates!”
The last decent Mayor the City of Evansville had was McDonald Jr. Lloyd Jr was and still remains a bozo. Weinzapfel was a smuck. Winnecke is incompetent. And the local Democratic party has chosen to run a pathetic, self-serving political hack against the loser incumbent.
Why can’t the local political parties give up on their ego stroking, power hungry motives and realize that this City needs competent leadership? Rick Davis was a decent candidate but his own party turned on him and ate him alive. Currently the local Republicans and Democrats are the worst enemies of Evansville’s future.

    • “Currently the local Republicans and Democrats are the worst enemies of Evansville’s future.”
      Exactly! You nailed it Dutch.
A bunch of Rascals are “running” the game.

      • @Admin: the Daily Off Topic is a joke. Two guys, Don Becker & Balloonpilot, arguing about world politics.

Suggest you elevate the ‘Weekend Open Forum’ to ‘Is It True’ status–like it used to be– and you’ll get a lot more of your regulars sharing thoughts that come to them Saturday/Sunday.
