IS IT TRUE that for more than 17 plus years this column has served the City of Evansville and Vanderburgh County as the place to go to learn things that are going on in local government that other media is reluctant to cover?…much good has come from things posted in “IS IT TRUE” and the comment section has, for the most part, made the City-County Observer the go-to place for open constructive dialog?
IS IT TRUEÂ that the time for empty political promises and an empty dialog will come to an end tomorrow evening?
IS IT TRUE that the long-awaited election of 2020 is finally upon us and mercifully we will be able to stop being bombarded with empty promises and negative smears put forth by nearly every campaign from dog catcher to President of the United States?…the coronavirus has turned our election process inside out due to fear of infection and suspicion of tampering with the mail, individual ballots, and of course a plethora of the recently deceased poised to cast their last vote through the efforts of others?…the City-County Observer encourages everyone to vote and hopes for a quick and accurate outcome that is accepted by whichever side loses?…the time for resistance, derangement, and violence in the streets like a third grader throwing a tantrum are over and hopefully such disrespectful and destructive things will end for good on November 4th?…the last four years have been a period of embarrassment for things the have happened both inside and outside of the halls of government?…the last four years have exposed quite a lot of adults as spoiled children and they come in both blue and red?…whoever prevails will hopefully be recognized as the lawful winner and will be treated as such?
IS IT TRUE that we give five cheers (5) cheers to the “Mayors Re-Open Evansville  TaskForce”, “Feed Evansville Task Force” and the “Vanderburgh County Testing Task Force” for doing an outstanding job in helping to feed and protect the masses?
IS IT TRUEÂ if the polls are correct that President Ulysses S Grant will be the happiest person in the cemetery?…the family and heirs of President Grant along with Grant’s ghost will be able to shed a poor distinction that has been with them for over 150 years?…in almost every article that has been written about the intelligence quotient (IQ) of the Presidents of the United States, President Grant is placed last?…it is last among a pretty smart lot as President Grant is thought by those who claim to know to have an IQ of between 120 and 130?…in every survey found, President Grant is designated as the lowest IQ President ever?… if the polls are correct and if those who claim to know how to analyze the IQ of the candidates are correct, President Grant will no longer occupy the IQ cellar of Presidents?…those who claim to know are also unanimous in their opinion on who is the smartest (highest IQ) person to ever serve as President?…that would be President John Quincy Adams with an IQ of 168?…there is also near unanimity that President Thomas Jefferson is a close second to Adams?
IS IT TRUE that the Honorable Vanderburgh County Superior Court Judge Les Shively has proven to be an outstanding judge and public servant? …he’s extremely outgoing and likable? …that Judge Shively is listed on the November 3, 2020 election ballot as an unopposed non-partisan candidate? Â …we strongly urge you to give him a vote of confidence in order to let him know how you appreciate the outstanding job he does in ensuring that justice is well served in his court?
IS IT TRUE if Vanderburgh County Commissioners Ben Shoulders (D) and Cheryl Musgrave (R) are both re-elected tomorrow they will become the first two Vanderburgh County Commissioners to be re-elected the same year since Rick Borries (D) and Shirley Cox (R) did in 1984?
IS IT TRUE that Desert Sun Newspaper of Palm Springs CA. has just listed their two-story 99,000 square feet, Corporate office building for $7.5 million dollars? Â …the Gannett owned newspaper has moved their production (printing) responsibilities to Phoenix. Az.? Â …this is the similar type of business move that the Gannett Publishing did at the Evansville Courier and Press several years ago?
IS IT TRUE we are told by a publishing “MOLE’ that Gannett Publishing may be terminating “Opinion Editors” at some of their daily newspapers in the near future in order to save money? …the stark reality is that newspapers across the country are victims of large investment groups that have cut talent, alienated advertisers, and produced irrelevant biased narratives?…at this rate, there may be only a few printed daily newspapers still in print in the United States in 10 years?
IS IT TRUE those in the know feel that printed daily newspapers are to the point that there is little or no financial reason for them to exist? …that newspaper pundits feel the only things of value may be the archival records of the cities that have hosted them for over a century in many places?…they also feel that the historical record of pictures, old articles and columns are worth more than the zero dollars that the day to day operations are cash flowing?
IS IT TRUE starting tomorrow evening elected officials, law enforcement officials, judges, civil rights activists, legislative bodies, community leaders, citizens, and clergy will begin to sit down and have an open and pointed discussion on how to begin the long and challenging task of how to end the race, political, social, economic injustices while addressing judicial and law enforcement reforms?
IS IT TRUE we got a kick out of career politicians when are they talking to the masses about the race issues and political, social, economic, judicial, and police injustices? …it’s even more intriguing when career politicians masterfully try to convince the masses that they understand and feel their grief, they understand their economic plight and suffering caused by racial injustice and institutional racism? Â …we predict starting tomorrow many of these serving politicians shall not be re-elected?
IS IT TRUE that it is a common practice for a County Assessor to quietly increase home values? …to protest these increases, the homeowner has to obtain a certified appraisal costing at least $300? Â …that the cost of the protest will cost approximately the same amount of money as the increase in our property taxes? Â …it is also a common practice by County Assessors that even if the homeowner pays the cost of the appraisal and win, the very next year the County Assessor will increase the home values back to the originally proposed increase?
IS IT TRUE that over the years the City-County Observer has studied and published articles that examine the economic expectations and realities of proposed capital projects within Vanderburgh County proper? …our conclusion is that a lack of planning has created an unavoidable last-minute quagmire that leaves our county in the unenviable position of needing to provide significant incentives to secure a binding and enforceable agreement to entice a developer to build profitable projects?
IS IT TRUEÂ many people have received their $1,200 stimulus checks and the money is long gone because it was used to buy the bare necessities? Â …when people get desperate they will do desperate things? …desperation is caused by loss of employment, not able to pay your water bill, gas, and electric bills, mobile phone bill, can’t pay your rent or mortgage payments, experiencing a medical issue, going through a divorce, can’t buy food or medicine, or can’t make your car payment? …that the government should do for people what they can’t do for themselves?
IS IT TRUE that Scott Massey is a Purdue University graduate and the co-founder of Heliponix, a company that makes an appliance that fits under a kitchen counter and grows organic produce year-round, is hoping to change that by bringing sustainable agriculture methods during times like these?  …several years ago Scott Massey was selected for a  Mandela Washington Fellowship to lead educational workshops at Cameroonian University?  …that  Approximately 200 million hectares of suitable land remain unfarmed across Africa, causing many observers to wonder how African nations can unlock their full agricultural potential?
IS IT TRUEÂ that Vanderburgh County Chief Deputy Treasurer Dottie Thomas is not only extremely professional but she knows her stuff? Â …we need more people like her working at the Civic Center? Â …the way she conducts the people business is the reason why she running unopposed for the Vanderburgh County Treasurer position?
IS IT TRUEÂ that Channel 14 Anchor person Jackie Monroe does a superb job in bringing us accurate and up-to-date local news of substance?
IS IT TRUE we give five (5) cheers to TV Channels 14 for doing a phenomenal job covering the Coronavirus news?
