IS IT TRUE NOVEMBER 13, 2015

IS IT TRUE we received this e-mail from the leadership of Local Teamsters #215 last night?  …they said; “Our Bus Drivers bargaining unit ratified their contract today.”  “That is the fifth and final contract to be ratified. The School Board indicated in their November 2nd meeting that they would be ratifying all five contracts at their November 16 meeting if they were ratified by our membership.”?

IS IT TRUE the Local Teamsters #215 e-mail sent another e-mail to the City County Observer that said; “Thank you for your support during this way too long ordeal”?  …we are pleased that we had a positive effect in helping the professional , dedicated and hardworking hands-on support staff of the EVSC to finally have all there bargaining unit contracts ratified”?

IS IT TRUE we were  told by EVSC insiders that Dr.  David Smith said;  “that he was personally going to bust the Local #215 Teamsters Union”?  …we laughed at that statement then and we also laugh at Dr. Smiths union busting statement today?

IS IT TRUE we would like to point out the employees of the Local #215 Teamster worked without a contract but continued doing  an outstanding job in serving the students, teachers and support staff of the EVSC without a  contract?

IS IT TRUE if the EVSC spent as much time in conducting the school business in regular session as the do in Executive session the taxpayers would be better served?

IS IT TRUE when the Local Teamsters #215 and  EVSC elected School Board fear Superintendent DR.  David Smith we have no labor contract but when Dr. Smith fears the Local Teamsters #215 and the elected School Board the employees have a labor contact?

IS IT TRUE that the current  “READERS POLL” question is;  “Do you feel that EVSC Superintendent DR, David Smith failed in his attempt to break the contract activities of LocaL #215 Teamsters”?

  1. To vote on your poll, one would have to believe Dr. Smith actually said what the “insiders” claim, which intelligent people don’t.

    RED PEN ALERT, CENSORS!!!!!

    • It is crystal clear that Dr. Smith set out to do some union busting, so why is it hard to believe that he articulated it?

        • I have several good friends within EVSC. More than one has told me that the first thing Smith told the board was that the Teamsters would have to go in order for him to stay. Since it looks like the Teamsters are staying, maybe he can find another job and leave. I can’t imagine where else they would hire him and kow-tow to him the way the board does here, though.

      • Because there is no proof that he said it? Don’t you demand proof before you judge, Laura?

Is my question to you incorrect?

        • I have the word of someone whose word is good enough for me. I am told by him that the work atmosphere is so bad that teachers cry every day. He also says that the first thing Smith told his board was that they had to choose between him and the Teamsters, but both of them would not be staying. I heard that it was Worthington, Guarino, and Gamblin that finally had enough and put an end to the “negotiations.” Duckworthless and the rest of the crew just do what Smith wants.

  2. I’m glad the Teamsters finally got their contract . I suspect there will be hard feelings between Local 215 and the EVSC Board for a long time to come.

    • Perhaps its not a good idea for a union to negotiate with taxpayers. Even FDR thought that was a bad idea.

  3. It was not until after the Civil War that the State of Indiana started to make serious efforts at establishing a uniform system of public schools in the townships. In the 150 years since that time the annual school debt has grown to consume over half of the local property taxes paid into local government.

But that is not the whole story. Out of the taxes you pay to the State of Indiana the state General Fund spends 46% of its revenue for K-12 education, and another 5% for teacher pensions.

But that also is not the end of the story because from the Federal taxes you pay another 10% of federal taxes goes to education.

We have come a long way since 1816, and 1852, and especially since 1865. Here is Article 8 from the 1852 Constitutional Convention updated revision.

    http://www.law.indiana.edu/uslawdocs/inconst/art-8.html

I think the delegates to that Constitutional Convention would be proud of the system that developed in public education, even if they might be less proud of the cost of providing it, or the overall academic achievement level of the graduating students.

    ARTICLE 8. Education
    Section 1. Common school system
Section 1. Knowledge and learning, general diffused throughout a community, being essential to the preservation of a free government; it should be the duty of the General Assembly to encourage, by all suitable means, moral, intellectual, scientific, and agricultural improvement; and provide, by law, for a general and uniform system of Common Schools, wherein tuition shall without charge, and equally open to all.

Note in the article above what is first on the list of things to be encouraged by the General Assembly: it is MORAL improvement. Would anyone in education today care to encourage courses in MORAL education for public school students?

    • PRESSANYKEY:
Why don’t you just skip the whole preamble here, and say you want day
long Southern Baptist prayers to be the content of the public school day? Jeez.

  4. Is there a way to find out how much the EVSC spent on this contract ordeal with Local # 215?

    • The Indy attorney made well over 60k of taxpayer money and didn’t even settle the renegotiations. Imo she was just a seed planted by an unknown person with only one agenda. To bust up the local union. She failed. Then Evsc retainer attorney Mr. Shoulders settled it in a collective timely manner. If you remember, he was supposed to negotiate with them from the beginning and didn’t. I feel that the “plan” was presentated to him initially . I honestly don’t think he wanted part in doing that to the local members. Our community is dealing with some undermining agendas with this administration. We need to follow the money movements and piece together what they are really doing with it. Something fishy is definitely going on ! but what? I’m not sure…

  5. Actions speak louder than words. One only needs to google ” EVSC Teamsters Local 215″ and follow the unnecessary 18 month union busting journey Mr. Smith took these hard working employees on. The waste of time, energy and tax payer money on this misguided ,failed mission is deplorable. Headline in Courier and Press ,Tues Nov 10, says ” ISTEP scores decline”. I would like the EVSC board to review and evaluate whether they consider Mr. Smith should have been focusing on the education of the children through this time rather than trying to destroy a 42 year relationship that affected the morale of the very people who keep the schools running.

    • +1! Of course, that won’t happen. The EVSC board is comprised of “rubber stamp” toadies to Dr. Smith. They don’t seem to understand that he works for them. The voters need to wise up and get a board that holds the Superintendent accountable to them.

    • The EVSC Board believes that they work for Dr. Smith instead of Dr. Smith working for them. Sad.

  6. I have been through 13 or 14 union contract negotiations in my life and in every case, my union leadership always blamed the company for not negotiating in good faith and the company always blamed the union for being too rigid in their demands. That’s how they play the game.

    • Are you one of the freeloaders who benefits from belonging to a bargaining unit, but doesn’t pay dues?

      • Laura, that’s the type of shameful question I would expect from Ghost or bandana. You have obviously sunk to their level, so, because truth isn’t a factor in your considerations, the only answer that you would believe is a lie that suits your purpose.

But, I, being a truthful person, can’t lie. I’ve been a dues paying union member from the age of 17 until retirement and have served as both a group and chief steward.

  7. Im very pleased that the Board is finally seeing what Smith is made of. Enough is enough!!!!!!!!!!! 60 K plus wasted tax payers money on the Union busting lawyer. 18 months of trying to BUST up the Teamsters. TEAMSTER STRONG!

    • I’m very pleased to see that our union brothers and sisters who work for school corporations do not know how to use apostrophes to form contractions or indicate possession. Although our primary operation to destroy children’s intelligence in Indiana is Operation Dumb-Dumb, headed by Glenda Ritz, it is wonderful to see that children are being exposed to extra ignorance!

  8. Every branch of EVCS is under staff bus drivers running double routes kitchen working short, custodian have been short workers for ten years schools are only half clean ever night but the guys on top are raking in the money you think not look at public records from 10 years ago till now and see for yourself the jump in pay for the top 15 jobs then ask a teamster how much thier pay check up

  9. Why does the board keep this guy. Has done nothing but waste money on his and keifer union busting agendas. These Employees and Evsc Board have made pawns by these two in this farce. He needs to be replaced with a couple of Board members.
