IS IT TRUE Teamsters 215 stated publicly they understanding the EVSC Board’s concerns and has proposed several other options such as?

IS IT TRUE proposal number one is?  A mediator which is a free service provided by the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service?

IS IT TRUE the second proposal is to select panel of three (3) consisting of one being chosen by EVSC, one being chosen by the Union and the third being mutually agreed upon by the other two panel members?

IS IT TRUE proposal number three is select an arbitrator from Indiana that has expertise in school related issues.

IS IT TRUE that In last forty years local Teamsters 215 have had only 5 cases get to the arbitration stage?  …its obvious that both sides are clearly capable at working out labor issues if they put their mindset to doing it?   …we understand there are times when both sides truly feel they are right and the fair thing to do is have a third party make the final decision?

IS IT TRUE than 2nd District School Board candidate Andrew Guarino he was quoted as saying: “IN the interim, we will meet with the Teamsters, to forge a more trusting relationships”?  …we wonder what Mr. Guarinos wife (State Senator Venneta Becker) thinks about his husband political flip flop on the collective bargaining issues with the local Teamsters 215?

IS IT TRUE that At-Large School Board candidate Rance Ossenberg publicly stated in the CITY COUNTY OBSERVER: “As a board member, i would want a better relationship with all the union and employee groups.  The perception of the public with the latest negotiations is there was a luck of communication between the administration and bargaining units. This open the door to rumor and half truths that create distrust and a negative environment.  Collaborastion between all parties is imperative if we are to create a positive positive work environment that in turn will help optimize learning conditions for students”?

IS IT TRUE newly appointed Superintendent DR. David Smith publicly stated that “at every level  I’m convinced that relationships are hugely important,”  “the way we approach our employees and treat our employees will not change,” ‘we value our employees” and ” built that trust and collaborative relationships over the years.”?

IS IT TRUE than School Board candidate for re-election and now EVSC President Mike Duckworth publicly stated: “I think as long as we have dialogue and keep communication, keep talking, we can disagree but we want to collaborate and see how we can make it better for all of us,” he said?

IS IT TRUE concerning the proposals regarding the Grievance Procedure that the Teamsters are trying to achieve specifies language that the Union feels is fair for both sides? …the Union doesn’t think it is fair to have the EVSC School Board be the final decision maker on grievances,? …we feel other proposals need to be brought to the table to try to address other concerns expressed such as where the arbitrator is from and costs? …the EVSC Board feels that as elected officials they should make the final determination on grievances, especially if financial issues are involved?

  1. Superintendent DR. David Smith publicly stated that 15% of employees do not want to pay dues. I am surprised this is not a larger number. In almost any group there are going to be individuals that do not want to pay their fair share. More than 15% probably stiff their church. The excuse they are fighting for employees rights is BS they are union busting. A clear majority have said they want 215 to represent them and feel there dues are fair. I wonder why Dr Smith feels this is worth the fight. What are his real motives?

  2. Thank you for these questions because WORDS MATTER, the TRUTH MATTERS especially from folks in leadership positions. After following these EVSC proceedings for over a year I have determined that David Smith our school superintendent is not an honest man! 2014 he said majority of employees wanted out of the Union and after giving them 24 hours to vote the employees did overwhelmingly ( Bus drivers 120-27 Secretaries 70-27) to which Mr Smith said ” The employees have spoken and we will respect their wishes”. Last night at the board meeting he said 15% wanted out. That would be 102 but as of now only 59 have not signed up to pay dues and many of those are new hires and just haven’t filled out the forms due to summer break! AND the fact he wants the board to be the final say in arbitration is just plain unfair! What country does he think he lives in? Instructing the public elected board to not talk about Union matters except through the EVSC lawyer! Again what country does he think he lives in!

    • On a lighter note, Smith has also knocked the anonymity of blogs and said he doesn’t read them. His letter to the CCO is published herein today. Of course that’s not to say that former Bosse band & orchestra manager Smith reads what he purports to have written.

Sure it is true I sat at the EVSC Board meeting last nite and heard Doc Smith say that he and the board need complete control of whom they hire as if to lead the public to believe that the Teamsters have some control over whom they hire. The Teamsters have or never have or never has ask for any control over whom EVSC hires. The Teamsters only represent the EVSC employees after they are hired by the Supt.and Board and have served a probation period. Now that Doc Smith told that lie I have no choice but to believe he and his board could be lying about other things he has been telling the public. Maybe he and the his Union Busting Attorney may be lying to the board also. It is now time to get back to the table and negotiate in GOOD FAITH our students and their families of EVSC deserve no less.

      If the outcome of the election was a vote to keep the union, then I do not see where EVSC can ignore the outcome. One question I would have though is just what does the union provide to the EVSC bus drivers and monitors? What do they get in return for their union dues?

  4. Power is more contagious than Ebola and the more one has the more one wants. Whether it be the CCO, the C&P, a police officer, a David Smith etc. etc., once you have it, it’s hard to get enough of it.

    On a side note, I know an individual who despised paying union dues so switched to a different position in the same organization that wasn’t in the union. He went from paying $112 dollars for his health insurance in the union to $360 a month in his new position.

    I said that’s a lot of union dues in reverse every month Ollie.

    • Only problem with your anecdotal story is that everyone’s health insurance went up after Obamacare went into affect. SO your faceless story and a quarter still won’t get you a cup of coffee. 🙂

        Speaking of health insurance costs, here’s what David Smith said in the C&P on Wednesday, April 23, 2014: “Smith said the district’s health insurance costs have increased by 512 percent since 1997.”

        Now there’s an increase for you Brandon but you probably never noticed it, (even though you continuously voted for it) because you’ve been (subsidized) by an employer or in your case probably mom&dad.

  5. On arbitration I heard Mr. Duckworth say if the Board had final say on grievances and Teamsters were not happy with the out come they could then take it to court. If the Board feels arbitration is expensive what would the cost of going to court cost taxpayers. If the over reaching Supt. and his Board would have been right in their punishment an arbitrator would never have over ruled them. They have had only 5 arbitrations in 40 yrs. What is ironic is that 3 of them are on this over reaching Supt. and His Board. They are the same cast bringing on this mess appreciate your employees wishes to be represented by Local 215 and get back to the table and get a CBA in good faith.

  7. Dr. Smith and the school board claim that they are afraid of being sued for taking union dues out of the checks of employees who do not wish to be in the union. They have stated this on multiple occasions through TV interviews, press releases and letters to their employees. The union has provided a proposal to them allowing all employees the freedom to choose. Existing employees would have 10 days upon signing of the contract to make their decision. New employees would decide on their hire date. No dues would be collected from those not in the union any more. The administration and school board are still not happy. What do you do when you give someone exactly what they want and they still won’t except it?

        • The problem is you don’t want to be in a Union that’s ok why do you care if someone else would want to be in the Union do your thing but don’t tread on someone else who wants to do something you don’t.

    • The union should be allowed to release a yearly list of those who chose not to pay their dues (freeloaders.) If that was allowed, nay required, I’d have less of a problem with RTW.

I as a concerned looker in, I would hope the CCO would put the present city leadership on notice, that the information being gathered against those ridiculous plans to develop a section of your town that remains in CSO violation for increased development and unsustainable runoff will and should finally be killed in the shell,of the egg. before it dooms you to further failures. { That’s your Downtowns four blocks of stinking old toxic and moldy ogres cronies bailouts} That mess is rearing its head almost daily with our ongoing recovered information in concern to your local climate change adjustments. We are compiling this science and we are going to drop it in the laps of those elected idiots the ERBC feeds into the subservice of office for them and the USEPA.
