IS IT TRUE the U S ARMY CORP of ENGINEERS just made the City of Evansville remove the unauthorized debris from the ponding area of the Evansville levee which is considered to be a Federal wetlands? …the U  S ARMY CORP of ENGINEERS  not only served Evansville with a cease and desist order to stop dumping but also demand that they remove all the debris they illegally dumped on this site? .. .this wetland is located next to the Evansville City Garage on Waterworks Road? …we wonder how much this unauthorized dumping is going to cost the taxpayers to clean up? …we wonder why the main stream media hasn’t reported this? …C’mon Tim. Where’s the Courier and Press  when you need them?

IS IT TRUE today,  July 1, 2015 the amended local rule of the Vanderburgh Circuit and Superior Courts regarding Conduct, Dress and Courthouse Policies went into effect.  … a copy of this local rule will be available to the media beginning at 8:00 a.m. this date in the Office of Chief Judge Richard G. D’Amour, Civic Center Complex, Court’s Building Room 116?  … the City County Observer shall obtain a copy and post it soon as possible?

IS IT TRUE that the President of the Evansville City Council, Dr. Dan Adams, sent out the following e-mail to the Mayors Chief of Staff? …as of this date Dr. Adams hasn’t heard from the Mayors Chief of Staff? …when he does we shall update you on this issue?

Dear Steve,
Please provide the City Clerk for all City Council members (and Scott Danks too, please) with an e-copy of the downtown hotel materials that were submitted recently to the State, so that they can
included with the contents of the electronic packet for us all on the Thursday pm transmission. I would trust that a hard copy of the executive summary would be in our packets for Friday pickup. It is my recollection that you promised us at the last meeting that you would do this chore for us. I thank you in advance for your kind diligence.
Dan

IS IT TRUE we are hearing that local political party members are going to be very diligent in watching every move that certain city employees make to insure sure they don’t politic on the job in the upcoming city election?  …it was alleged In the last Mayoral election, there were widespread reports about city employees politicking during work hours.?   …we are told that  the Police Chief,  City Controller,  Fire Chief and DMD Director political activities will be closely monitored?

IS IT TRUE we reported yesterday that At-Large City Council Candidate Alex Burton was approached by a member of the “Weaver For Council” campaign committee to have a joint campaign fundraiser? …we stand by that statement? …we reported it would be the smart political move for Mr. Weaver to also include City Council President Dr. Dan Adams in this fundraising event? …we just heard from our Westside “MOLE” and indeed that was exactly what happened? …Burton. Adams and Weaver shall be hosting a joint golf fundraiser in the very near future? … this event may be the first time that Mr. Weaver won’t be in a political picture with Mayor Winnecke? …Or will it? …perhaps Mayor Winnecke will join them at their event?  … we understand that BJ Watts (a Republican Governor Mike Pence) appointee to the Board of Education, and the entire Mosby clan will be involved in promoting this event?  … there is talk about a future run for office by the family for a County Council seat?

IS IT TRUE we just added a new addition to the CCO?  …after many months of working on adding a Cause of Death Report  generated from the Vanderburgh County Health Department, we finally did it?  …we urge you to take time and read this section because we have additional information that the local media don’t report in their Obit section?  …at this time we are going to test our Cause of Death section to see  how well its received by our readers.  …If our readers respond in a negative way we shall do away with it?

Please take time and vote in today’s “Readers Poll”. Also we just posted the current City County Observer TRI-STATE VOICES TV show for you’re viewing pleasure. Don’t miss reading today’s Feature article because it’s always an interesting read.  New addition to the CCO is the Cause of Death report generated by the Vanderburgh County Health Department. 1. Oh yes are those nasty folks at the Corp are more powerful then Winnecke? It has been nearly two years since Mounts has come before the People updating the status of the Consent Decree with the EPA . . if anyone should recall, one aspect of the plan was to construct a wetland in B Slough (Estimated Cost = $150,000,000) to capture the waste to be held for treatment at the Eastside Plant . . now comes those nasty folks . .cookies to donuts that this plan will NOT be approved by the Corp since the wetland will interfere with the levy system. . . if just a chance, no cigar . .

    • The “skeeter ponding area” near the water works and the levee near waterworks road needs some real work, as do the other areas such as the so called Howell wetlands ( “westside skeeter pit” and old oxbow feature.)
Some plan should be in place to cope with this centuries increasing numbers in mosquitoes and other biting insects, along with the increasing hydrology connected to the planets copious amounts of vapor energy brought forth by climate change. Expect more records to fall on precipitation in all regions affected today. Evansville is very well positioned geographically to lead the nation in the adaptations needed to set forward, build, and achieve the sustainability and fiscal balance to improve life qualities for all its citizens. This while repositioning itself for the extremes that are now well on the way into the twenty first century.
Climate migration brings with it invasive species that also breed diseases sometimes never seen in your region. The clean up should be tackled with these ongoing and increasing problems as a primary driver due to your towns sustainable environmental footprint. This problem has some new and exciting series of solutions now available for conversion to a more balanced and sustainable overall environmental profile. In actuality a well balanced wetland can be an attraction as well as an purposed asset. It seems the setback is sometimes right square in the focus of the local leadership in that governance. The downtown “tree high double wide notell” is now an underlined example of just how projects tend become compounding set backs for a entire communtie’s ability to move forward with needed infrastructure for a communities growth into this centuries bare knuckled challenges brought to town by climate change migrations.
Evansville’s combined sewers mandate will never see any success through those smallish wetlands management projects, the wetlands would require a surface area you just don’t have available for a working and cost managed usage conversion.

  2. Steve did email me back and state that he would provide the information to the City Council when it became available on its way to the State officals. H. Dan Adams MD

    • Good for ‘Steve’. Now if you’d just do the people’s business and rescind that 20 million you gave this very suspect administration to spend on a hotel, apparently any hotel, the Council wouldn’t appear to be so subservient to ‘Steve’ and his bosses.

At this point, given the very real possibility of a new mayor after the election, that money is best pulled back regardless of what ‘Steve’ thinks.

  3. Poor Doc Adams . . .hopefully he will figure out very soon that Winnecke & Company is blowing sunshine up his tailpipe. . .maybe the reason for the stroking . . . the site prep cost will be considerably more than expected . . and where are those extra funds? Maybe DMD can use their ATM?

  4. Very interesting IIT. The obits – complete with cause of death are a long awaited and valuable resource.
    THANKS!

    • I would much appreciate a link that allows one to search back farther than the current month.

  5. I wonder how many city employees are being approached and forced to work for the Political Party this time. It’s happened in the past. Yes they force people to work for the political party or they lose their jobs. It’s illegal but it’s still done.

  6. NOTICE TO THE TAXPAYERS OF THE CITY OF EVANSVILLE OF ADDITIONAL APPROPRIATIONS BEING SOUGHT IN EXCESS OF THE CURRENT BUDGET

    F-2015-9

    $300,000. General fund

    $500,000. Local Roads and Streets

    $300,000. Local Option Income Tax

    $500,000. Riverboat Fund

    $100,000. Federal Forfeiture Fund

    $100,000. Law Enforcement Fund

Wake the hell up people! Your city is bankrupt, and its constant additional appropriations will soon be bankrupting a good segment of its population at this rate. Another $2.85 million with this request!

Get a clue! It is time to change this bunch now, not wait for another election where we will no doubt get more of the same unless some independent candidate with some skills and a conscience steps up to the plate between now and then.

    • The city sent a delegation to Detroit to study land banking back in the spring. Maybe its good to develop a relationship there if we are headed down the same road.

      • I still do not fathom how the city of Evansville can legally ding the taxpayers for more money for the Riverboat Fund. We basically voted to allow gambling here with the understanding that it would supply more revenue to the city.

We have now reached a point where the city is seeking additional money from the taxpayers to support the Riverboat fund which was supposed to be funded by gaming revenues.

I said we should not let them in here before the actual vote was taken. Anyone can look around this city and see that the revenue from the boat has been squandered. It has gone to line the pockets of a few well connected individuals while the city infrastructure was forced to take a back seat to the private interests.

And now we have to suffer the slap in the face of the city asking for an additional appropriation, in excess of the budget, for the Riverboat Fund! Unbelievable, you can’t make this stuff up!

Look at Evansville Civil City Budget on page 12 of 20 of this DLGF document. Now ask yourself how many times, since this budget was originally approved, has the city sought and received additional appropriations in excess of the original budget?

This is a shameful disgrace of an excuse at operating city government and it appears that it is only going to get worse!

      • Guaranteed to get worse. An upcoming election but nothing seems to be an issue among the candidates. They all just want to get along. Peachy smiles, teamwork and a little insignificant charity work for a platform. The powers that be will continue to rule.

  7. Those pesky Mosby’s. Please don’t tell me David or BJ are running. Curt’s not around to lead either want of them by the collar. Hey. Maybe, there will be a new generation of Mosby’s? What a thought.

  8. The Health Department Death Report, i.e., cause of death is a nice addition to the City-County Observer.

The quality of your publication continues to improve. It is on my daily “must read” list.
    Thank you for your work.
