IS IT TRUE January 27, 2014

146

IS IT TRUE that Mayor Winnecke made a disappointing presentation to City Council about the status of the proposed downtown Hotel last night? …it was obvious that the Mayor was totally out of his comfort zone talking about complex financial issues concerning his presently failed downtown Hotel project?  …we are pleased that he confirmed what the City County Observer has been saying for a while about the City, HCW and Hilton Corporation not having a legally signed franchised agreement between them

IS IT TRUE that it appears that City Council Democrats have grown weary of 2nd Ward City Councilwoman Missy Mosby and At-Large City Councilman Jonathan Weaver’s continued attacks on them? ….that the duo has over the last three years attacked publicly John Friend, Connie Robinson, Conor O’Daniel, Dan Adams, Al Lindsey and Stephanie Brinkerhoff-Riley?  ….that in supporting the Republican Mayor’s spending habits, the two have locked political horns with their fellow members while voting for the $5 million dollar Earthcare Energy loan, supporting  the original $38.5 million hotel bond, advocating the original $44 million Johnson Control contract, taking to the airwaves for a $10 million dog park and challenging the trimming of the City’s last three bloated budgets and an unproven Shotspotter? …that at last night’s City Council meeting Councilman Weaver was stripped of his three board appointments and replaced by other members? ….that Councilman Weaver and Councilwoman Mosby’s inability to work with Council members has led to their ousting from any and all positions of authority for City Council?  … that both should start preparing explanations for why they are wholly ineffective in garnering votes for their projects and why they warrant re-election?

IS IT TRUE we hear that the Republicans are working hard to find someone to run against the extremely popular and powerful 4th Ward City Councilwoman Connie Robinson?…many democratic party mover and shakers hope that this happens?  …if the Republicans succeed in finding someone to run against Mrs. Robinson you can expect the 4th Ward to have a massive turnout in support of Connie Robinson?…if this happens one can expect that Gail Riecken and Democratic At-large City Council candidates campaigns will benefit greatly?

IS IT TRUE Mayor Winnecke stood before the Evansville City Council last night to advise them that he and his team have been working with HCW and Old National to downgrade and downsize the proposed convention hotel to a five story wrap around style with only 240 rooms?…the target for the new cost will be $36 Million with $7.5 Million coming from the City of Evansville and the remainder coming from ONB’s naming rights scheme and from HCW?…it is assumed that the other $12.5 Million originally committed by the City Council will go for infrastructure to support the hotel?…even the rooftop martini bar is going to remain but the apartments and the parking garage are not?…the reality is that the only need for a parking garage in the first place was for security?…with the recent shootings on the back 40 it is hard to imagine getting anyone to sign up to attend a convention in Evansville no matter what gets built?…when the next paragraph is obsolete, there may be hope for conventions?…until then it is a pipe dream?

IS IT TRUE that the Courier and Press ran a story last weekend that concluded that “an entire generation has been lost on Evansville’s South Side”?…while it is fulfilling to see the problems of South Evansville get some exposure in the mainstream media that calls out the serious problems with guns, drugs, and violence, it is also important to note that the crimes are being committed by a small percentage of the population?…by and large there are many more hardworking, God-fearing, and law abiding people living on the South Side than there are thugs and criminals?…the real problem is that the thug and criminal element has become so thoroughly entrenched that they control the streets and the law abiding citizens with fear and intimidation?…living in one’s own home in fear that a stronger, faster, armed group of individuals is one of the worse situations that a citizen of this country can endure?…fear of retribution is the reason that the good people of the South Side will not cooperate with the Evansville Police Department in identifying the criminals who are spraying bullets and shaking down residents?…fear is the root of the typical response to an inquiry into a crime with the much too familiar words, “I didn’t see nothing”?…the situation is both the South Side and the Southeast Side is unacceptable if Evansville is ever going to be seen as an attractive place to live?…only when the residents overcome their fears and cooperate with the EPD to rid the streets of habitual criminals will this once great part of Evansville return to tranquility?

IS IT TRUE that according to the last published audited financial statements from the State Board of Accounts indicated that the Evansville Redevelopment Authority owned the City of Evansville approximately $2,000,000 of taxpayer money? …that the ERC is not subject to audit by the State Board of Accounts because it is an independent agency and the five members of the board are appointed by the Mayor and City Council? …that the DMD Director needs concentrate his money finding efforts on the existence of those missing funds so ERC, via DMD, can refund the taxpayers the $2 million dollars of missing city funds?

    • Ghost, not everyone is like you. I know when I am reading bias from either side. I think broader than one party.

      • Apples and oranges!

Question is do these two you mention work directly for the state governor on the state dime, or do(did) they work for the newspaper/college (private) sector?

        • I don’t think it makes any difference who supposedly works for whom. Did you not read the article?

Gov. Mike Pence is starting a state-run taxpayer-funded news outlet that will make pre-written news stories available to Indiana media, as well as sometimes break news about his administration, according to documents obtained by The Indianapolis Star.”

Pence’s news outlet sounds a lot like Pravda to me. Watching people like IE twist and spin on this will make us all dizzy.

          • Key words: ….break news about “HIS” administration…. nothing about the bipartisan state news in general on the states dime!

          • Sorry about the above. I’m not sure where all of the “extra” crap came from.

          • Why don’t you wait and see what it is before you criticize. If you want to gain some insight you could ask Ms. Riecken how her party in Illinois does it. They have had a state press office for quite some time.

      • Ding! The c/p called wanting me to advertise with them. Declined their request, then the person made the mistake of asking why. “Because you are wholly in the Winnecke bucket and have lost your journalistic integrity.”

    • A state “paid for” run news outlet would not be a bad thing if it was a “bi-partisan” equal adventure.
The “effects” Pence wants belongs to the private sector industry!

Although the current mayor has Schafer as a mouth piece and C&P (private owned) as their spin news release, can you imagine the out cry of a “city paid” news outlet here?

As I have said in the past, it is never good government when a government entity has a super majority.

      • I don’t mind a bias if the source is honest about their bias, but I am against all public news media including NPR and PBS.

        • How can you be against public owned NPR and PBS, but favor your political parties public ran news outlet?

          Political partisan at it’s best!

          • Watching the far right flip-flop is getting downright funny. Trying to defend the indefensible is a difficult job.

          • Answer: Krull does. He is head of Franklin’s Journalism school. NPR and PBS are funded by the tax dollar.

          • IE, can Krull set policy? Pence and his party can! Krull can only put a spin on what “was” done!

          • No, being head of a journalism department has no influence at all. Arms, do I need to repeat again that I do not favor this sort of “journalism?” To me the problem is those who listen to NPR and PBS and think they are not being fed a bias because the narrator has a soft voice.

          • IE,

You should know better then thinking to repeat to me, “I “usually”
            hear you that first time!

Your unhappiness with NRP and PBS is/can be the same concern I
have with the Pence partisan spin on that tax payer dime!

Now had “your man Pence” said there will be both the (D) and the (R)
side on each nugget that was released so that the populace would
received a balance news release I would be all in for it!

    • I knew it!!

I knew this subject would come up and I knew all the usual suspects (aka RW sheep) would line up immediately to defend the “Dear Leader Pence” to the hilt!

Who doesn’t want to subscribe to the “Miracle Mike Chronicle and Press”.

“Miracle Mike speaks to God and finds cure for cancer”

“Dear Leader Pence delivers baby on the way to work”

“Pence delivers oratory smackdown to hateful liberals in the greatest speech since Demosthenes”

“Dear Leader Pence shoots course record a Augusta National”

    • Tom LoBianco has spent his AP career in Indy bashing everything Mike Pence has ever done. Last month he quit AP and went to work for Indy Star. LoBianco has never been big on “balance”. It remains to be seen if he will continue apace at Indy Star.

Could this be sour grapes by LoBianco? Is he of the opinion that the governor does not have a right to participate in the dissemination of information in his own words, with his own interpretations, to the citizens of Indiana?

Don’t worry tom, I am sure he will copy you on all his releases.

      • BTW, LoBianco did the same thing to Mitch Daniels. It must have something to do with that R after their names.

        • So you support state run, state censored media? You’re an unbelievable hypocrite. You’d be screaming from the rooftops that the reds were taking over if a Democrat did this and you know it.

          • CENSORSHIP???? What sort of idiot do you have to be not to recognize the daily censorship that takes place in the Evansville Courier&Presss? Have you ever had an original thought in your life, or do you always regurgitate what you are given?

          • Why do you think this website you are currently on even exists? It is because people have had enough of local CENSORSHIP!

          • Ghost, What i read says it is people profiles and news releases from all the departments. A lot more state house news than you are getting now. If the local papers don’t use them the public can see them on the site. No one is forced to read anything.

        • The local yellow rag has historically been full of left leaning pieces by LoBianco as AP’s statehouse reporter, John Krull and his State House File, and Howey Politics. Their combined output dominated the local media in Evansville.

Who in the hell would NOT welcome some balance?

  1. The only difference I see between the south side thugs and the civic center thugs are the bullets.

  2. Can we spin Friend’s quote and now say that continuing focus on the Hotel is a Weapon of Mass Distraction for the real problems of Evansville ?

  3. A little disappointed in Dan Adams public softening re: his stance on the Hotel.

What happened to ” not going to spend one dime until Med School is started” ?

      • Nope. Doc Adams is one of four candidates for three seats on City Council at large. He is probably wondering who do declare war on, Jonathon Weaver or Alex Burton. He’s just afraid of being the odd man out.

        • I don’t think that Dr. Dan Adams has much to worry about with Beaver. The other guy is new to the scene and not much is known about him.

          • Alex is a rising star, he will be mayor someday and probably much more. He has wide political experience for one so young having worked in the offices of 2 different congressmen and a good education having achieved a masters degree. my only question is what the hell is he doing in Evansville? We need many more like him.

          • I agree that Beav should be the one left behind, but candidates get a little nervous when they have competition in a primary. Alex Burton should beat Beaver by a mile.

  4. While EDITOR points out “Republicans are working hard to find someone to run against the extremely popular and powerful 4th Ward City Councilwoman Connie Robinson:…..

….I find it strange the City-County Observer points this out when the CCO knows full well Democrat Connie Robinson:

“Vanderburgh County Democratic Vice Chair Connie Robinson endorsed Republican Lloyd Winnecke for Evansville mayor. Robinson supported Winnecke over Democratic candidate for Mayor Rick Davis. Republican Mayor Winnecke defeated Democrat Rick Davis 11,664 to 10,009 to become only the third Republican to serve at the head of city government since 1955.”

    • “Vanderburgh County Democratic Vice Chair Connie Robinson endorsed Republican Lloyd Winnecke for Evansville mayor. Robinson supported Winnecke over Democratic candidate for Mayor Rick Davis. Republican Mayor Winnecke defeated Democrat Rick Davis 11,664 to 10,009 to become only the third Republican to serve at the head of city government since 1955.”

      • Riverfront Westside Shem Shemmy,

99% of your posts are great and even though we’re on the other side if the ideological aisle I’ve never challenged any of your posts.

However, you are WAY, WAY off base on this one.

Connie has already showed up at various organizational meetings for Gail and expressed her public support for Gail.

She’s supporting Gail. Will she change her mind after getting up in front of dozens of Democrats from both the Wienzapful wing and Davis wing’s of the party? Very doubtful.

She might but I seriously doubt it. Connie know which side of her bread is buttered and its with Gail.

          • Oh good, does this mean “your” issue is now resolved?
I was only taking heat off of EKB, you seem to been over the edge
            in roughing her up.

Keep in mine, we all have disagreements with one another at times on the issues
of the day. Don’t sever that tie, so we can argue another day!

          • He’s wrong, but he did it well. I was extending credit.

BB will not be right until Democrat Connie Robinson endorses Gail Riecken for Mayor.

That won’t happen. She is on record endorsing Republican Lloyd Winnecke.

          • Oh yes you do. ELKAYBEE…I don’t believe you. And you are clearly “we’re all equal, except some of us are more equal than others” no different than many of the rabid, Tea Party people in here making two-faced comments – things you have accused them of TODAY.

Sorry to be so harsh. But is it true? Of course.

Even Brains B does acknowledges he has doubts.

Democratic Party Vice-Chair Connie Robinson endorsed the sitting Republican for Mayor Lloyed Winnecke in the last election over the candidate Democrat Rick Davis.

That WILL NOT change if the election is close. Connie Robinson is politics as usual — there is NO other way to judge that. YOU KNOW THAT IS TRUE….and you WILL NOT deny it Elkaybee.

Best case….the Democratic Candidate for Mayor can expect Connie Robinson to “HOLD” from making ANY endorsements.

Why? You know why….that die is already cast:
“Vanderburgh County Democratic Vice Chair Connie Robinson endorsed Republican Lloyd Winnecke for Evansville mayor. Robinson supported Winnecke over Democratic candidate for Mayor Rick Davis. Republican Mayor Winnecke defeated Democrat Rick Davis 11,664 to 10,009 to become only the third Republican to serve at the head of city government since 1955.”

          • Yes COWBOY, you are right. Democrat Connie Robinson IS politics as usual….and LKB has lost face for not demanding the endorsement change NOW. She’s not getting it, because you are right Cowboy.

          • @Weinz-Sham: I have no doubts about Connie. You really have no idea what I believe, and I truly don’t give a crap whether you believe me or not!

    • Look at the 2011 canvass report on ward 4 results for the mayor race!
Davis carried that ward, not Winni! She would had to influenced 328 voters in her ward for Davis city wide defeat.

      • Wait a minute. Armstrongres, you are saying it’s ok that Democrat Connie Robinson endorsed Republican Mayor Winnecke? ….and, “well, it didn’t hurt that bad that she endorsed the Republican over Rick Davis?

        • Oh hell no! She should had been fried for what she did! What I was saying she did nor carry the ward for Winni!

          • When Rick Davis died, the comments here from the likes of ELKAYBEE were similar to a martyred Apostle stabbed in the back by the “traitorous-21” Democrats who voted against Democrat Rick Davis for Mayor and endorsed Republican Winnecke.

            All talk. Total BS.

I am wrong you say? Well “eatin’ speaks louder’n words.” If ELKAYBEE and the others who deplored this were indeed the principled people they say they are….

….they would demand, AND RECEIVE…..Democrat Connie Robinson’s endorsement of Democrat Gail Riecken’s campaign for Mayor of Evansville.

They won’t ask for that? WHY THE HELL NOT?

Integrity is at stake. Because THIS is still true:

“Vanderburgh County Democratic Vice Chair Connie Robinson endorsed Republican Lloyd Winnecke for Evansville mayor. Robinson supported Winnecke over Democratic candidate for Mayor Rick Davis. Republican Mayor Winnecke defeated Democrat Rick Davis 11,664 to 10,009 to become only the third Republican to serve at the head of city government since 1955.”

          • @Shem:
Rick Davis was not a hateful, vengeful man. His family is moving forward in his memory, so why should I have a problem with that?

          • @ Shem: I did not say that Connie won’t endorse Gail. I have good reason to believe she absolutely will. After all, Connie is a very smart person and anybody who is smart will not back the failed Mayor Lloyd Winnecke. You really need to stop the histrionics. It just shows how scared the Winnie Wigglers are.

          • Elkaybee,

            You don’t get it.

Actually LKB, maybe you do, but you lack the character to acknowledge it.

Democrat Connie Robinson is already on record endorsing the Republican Mayor Lloyd Winnecke.

There has been NO change, or we would have seen her endorsement of Dem Gail R.

  5. Since Connie Robinson openly opposed Rick Davis, it seems the Democrats would field a primary candidate to run against her.

“When Robinson publicly endorsed the Republican candidate, Owen, Weinzapfel and 21 other Democrats — some of whom had blamed Davis for supporting other Democrats against them in party primaries — signed a resolution supporting Robinson.

Meanwhile, Davis got support from the Indiana Democratic Party, 1999 Democratic mayoral candidates Gail Riecken and Phil Hoy, and some of the party’s City Council members and candidates.”

    http://www.courierpress.com/news/local-news/top-two-vanderburgh-democrats-resign-posts

    • You WISH the Democrats would “primary” Connie Robinson. Not gonna happen, Joe. The party has chosen to re-unify and move on.

      • Oh man. I don’t believe what I’m reading LKB. You are fine with this….

        • We can’t change the past. We just can’t let the past ruin the future. Republicans have always hated the way the local Democrats manage to heal and move forward, because the GOP knows how to hold a grudge.

          • LKB….Ok, you are fine with politics as usual. After all Elkaybee, your words are very clear.

Has Democrat Connie Robinson declared her support for Gail R for Mayor?

Have you demanded Democrat Connie Robinson declare her allegiance and her endorsement NOW in the Mayor’s election?

          • @Shem: I have reason to be hopeful that all of the rift is healed. I don’t demand that anybody do anything. Councilwoman Robinson does a superb job of representing the interests of her constituents, and she does things in her own time.

          • I DON’T BELIEVE WHAT I AM READING…..!

ELKAYBEE……you responses are indicating you know full well Democrat Connie Robinson is going to fail to endorse Gail R. for Mayor, and YOU ARE FINE WITH THAT.

If there was ever an endorsement on your part Elkaybee….(you are looking like a snake sliding on a greased floor leaving the room)…..of “politics as usual”, LKB, you are doing it.

LKB, you are looking unprincipled. All of your talk about “winnie” is useless and insignificant……with your double-standard on your failure to ask Democrat Connie Robinson to declare NOW. It is a price Robinson agreed to pay when she endorsed Winnecke.

ELKAYBEE — You look like another political hack on this. Respect for your opinion is dropping badly.

            This is what happened:
“Vanderburgh County Democratic Vice Chair Connie Robinson endorsed Republican Lloyd Winnecke for Evansville mayor. Robinson supported Winnecke over Democratic candidate for Mayor Rick Davis. Republican Mayor Winnecke defeated Democrat Rick Davis 11,664 to 10,009 to become only the third Republican to serve at the head of city government since 1955.”

ELKAYBEE….I don’t believe you ONE BIT that you expect a full-throated endorsement of Gail R.for Mayor from Democrat Connie Robinson.

          • LKB, has Connie Robinson announced her support for Gail Riecken? Didn’t think so.

          • River…….

How many more times are you going to post those 2011 election results?

What results are you wanting from Ekb?
Have not beat that dead horse issue enough?

          • Armstrongres,

I am wrong to do this you say? You know EXACTLY WHY I am posting it.

“Eatin’ speaks louder’n words.” If ELKAYBEE and the others who deplored this were indeed the principled people they say they are….

          • River………

Connie did not carry ward 4 for Winne !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
            Davis did !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

          • Armstrongres,

That is not the point. You know this. You are avoiding the issue.

            The question is:

“Who does Democrat Connie Robinson support for the next Mayor of Evansville?”

            The answer:

“Democrat Connie Robinson endorses Republican Lloyd Winnecke for Mayor”

          • River…………

When did Connie announce her support for Winni for the 2015 election?

          • Aren’t you making the point? I mean you said it yourself! It’s not when that matters. Because:
“Democrat Connie Robinson endorses Republican Lloyd Winnecke for Mayor”

          • River………

Elk and Connie are guilty because they have not met “your” timetable for a mayor endorsement?

          • Armstrongslidingsnake,

Your last several posts in this thread, diverting the issue, are worthy of a hissing serpent retreating from the room, still trying to deny the issue.

          • Good response. All he want to do is bring back the past to try and divide the Dems for the Future. Instead we should be talking about the failed hotel project and the endangerment of the future IU medical center if winggling winny doesn’t get it together fast.

          • River……….

Had been gone for past 7-8 hrs.

Thanks for the name calling! Reminds me of my grade school days!

Please spell out “your issue” in one-two sentences!

I only seen the endorsement for the 2011 election!

        • Connie Robinson sits on Gail’s Steering Committee. There is no doubt as to whom Connie supports, nor does Gail lay awake at night with the question on her mind.

          • LKB always talks about how the local Dems are united again. Yet he and others tend to forget that Missy Mosby and Weaver are members of the Democrat party and they seem to be okay bashing them and then calling it unity.

It’s like seeing little high school girls. Telling their friends they are all fine and united, but running off and talking behind their back on a blog.

            You’re a joke, LKB.

          • I understand how deep the hurt goes, but if Rick’s family can move ahead and join a ticket that includes the Councilwoman, why wouldn’t you work to support Gail?

          • Wait a minute LKB:

            1. You are saying YOU support Democrat Gail Riecken for Mayor.
            2. You are saying the Family of former Dem Candidate Rick Davis is supporting Democrat Gail Riecken for Mayor.

            BUT…

            3. You are also pointing out that Democrat Connie Robinson is NOT joining the Rick Davis Family and supporting Democrat Gail Riecken for Mayor.

Why? Because Democrat Connie Robinson supports Republican Winnecke for Mayor. THAT’s WHY…..

          • @ Shem. The Councilwoman has not yet announced support for anyone for Mayor. I expect she will, as she knows what the division in the party did to it. Besides, what kind of a doofus would support the failure for another term?

          • This is preposterous. ELKAYBEE…you say:

“Besides, what kind of a doofus would support the failure for another term?”

…and YOU WILL NOT hold Democratic Vice Chair Connie Robinson accountable for her endorsement for, your words, “DOOFUS-FAILURE” Republican Winnecke.

You won’t LKB. You’re no different…your failure to do that is the only evidence anyone needs.

      • After reading many of these posts, both before and after this one, I have my own thoughts on this “re-unification”. Firstly, Winnie was not elected by republicans alone–he was elected by the largesse of the machine. Davis was not an acceptable candidate, and openly bucked the status-quo. Winnie gets into to office, and surprise, surprise he continues to tread the same path as his predecessor. This cycle Gail throws her hat in the ring, and the democratic party is healed. I am amazed Benny Henn wasn’t there to tap Mike Woods in the forehead. I have not seen any indication thus far, that Gail plans to change the direction of city government. It’s early, and I could be mistaken, but I doubt it. I think it is more likely that the MACHINE has been fixed not healed, and if Gail is a machine candidate; Connie will certainly endorse her in the coming months. If Gail wins, I also look forward to the flurry of comments regarding the lucrative position Winnie will get out of the deal. I don’t think the Evansville Machine recognizes any political affiliation, rather, one is either a part of the machine or not. I think the hyper partisan environment we live in today serves to not only to encourage the machine, but provides wonderful camouflage for its machinations.

        • Good analysis , its what’s seen from afar. That town will continue down the sewers till that crapole”a machines discharge is fixed. Overhead today cuts straight through the old school funky camouflage . Elemental signatures are observed, scored, projected and very foreseeable by predictability standards for standing presentations.

    • That would be the smart thing to do. She has been given a free pass way too mant times for her many mistskes. If that was anyone else everyone here would be giving her a nickname like the others. She was there for Johnson Controls, Earthcare and all other fails. Voted it all right through until confronted with the stupidity of the deals just like the others. Nobody even seems to care about the issues the first time she was voted in.

    • The Davis Family supports Gail Riecken for Mayor. End of Story. They have more than moved on from this and have publically acknowledged that Rick Davis would be standing behind Gail Riecken 100%. It appears that the only thing Winnecke and Co. are trying to do is create chaos in the Democrat Party. That is Mayor Winnecke’s only hope to win this election. He cannot run on his record. He cannot run on his transparency. He cannot run on his integrity. He cannot run on his ability. All he can do is to lob negative remarks hoping one of them strike a nerve. That is the exact same thing that Weaver and Mosby do. That tactic is not working. The City of Evansville is sick and tired of the negative remarks from the same people over and over again. There is going to be a house cleaning in this years election.

  6. Jonathan Weaver and Missy Mosby are always unprofessional during council meetings. Lasts nights meeting was no different. Missy Mosby was looking more confused than usual as she demanded answers and an explanation regarding why the City Council was voting on those appointments. She is so inept that after 7 years on council she still doesn’t understand councils responsibilities and procedures. City Council was legally required to vote for someone to sit on those boards. Jonathan Weaver was nominated and then voted off. Jonathan Weaver and Missy Mosby have spent years lying, conniving, plotting and being spiteful towards everyone they’re in contact with. They are toxic and vile. After many complaints of their behavior and professionalism from many different people it is clear they needed replaced. Kudos to council for listening to the complaints of the citizens and taking action.

    • More and more frequently, Missy sounds like a “mean girl” from high school. The grown-ups on City Council put her in her whiny, juvenile place.
I’m not usually one to say someone isn’t fit for office based on the way they conduct their personal lives, but Missy and Weaver are an exception. Some of the things that have wound up on Facebook clearly show that they are not adult enough to hold the offices they have.

Where is that unity? You’re a joke, LKB.

        • First, I’m a “she”, not a “he.”
Second, the REAL Democrats are united. Missy, Beave, and their buddy the City Clerk are not real democrats. Missy is clearly a sell-out and Weaver votes with her, and the City Clerk has her own little secret.

        • Those two you mentioned are not Democrats and neither are their supporters. Explain how their very own Campaign managers are on Winneckes Reelection committee. No hurry. Just explain it. Call the IBEW and ask for Winneckes man.

    • They will be gone. Maybe the Beav will go back on TV? Missy Mosby is an airhead bimbo and not qualified to run a hot dog stand much less serve on the city council. She’s living proof that selling real estate is a profession for socialites and people with political connections not people with brains.

      • Does she even really “sell real estate”? I know she accepts charity from Mrs. Mayor, but I doubt she sells much of anything on her own. I think its just a “cover” for the way she makes most of her living, tending bar.

        • She votes on Monday night and collects her check on Tuesday morning. She sells things alright.

        • She takes more “selfies” than a 15 year old girl. That’s not a sign of emotional maturity.

          • Lol. I love this comment. Check out her meltdown that started over the weekend. She now talks about herself in 3rd person on her Facebook page. “Did you know Missy…” is an idiot? “Did you know Missy…” wasn’t pulled over with Jonathan Weaver?
What about that guy who was in the back seat and has started talking?

          • Taking Selfies is a sign of insecurity. They constantly have to look at pictures of themselves to try to reassure themselves that everything is ok when it’s not. Posting selfies on facebook is a cry for help and a request for reassurance that they still look OK. The problem is that the camera can’t see the wrinkles under the thick makeup. All the so called beauty can be removed with a simple Kleenex.

  7. I’ll keep it simple—Pence is a ruthless, and dangerously ambitious creep. With his– “Pence Propaganda Bureau”– financed by the taxpayers move, insight to his “True” character is revealed to the Electorate, and hopefully the Voters in Indiana will see the Wisdom in denying him a 2nd term. What a Dud!

    • Thank you, Crash! I can’t believe any of the right wing can defend this act of his.

  8. Another news nugget! (source: Saturday’s C&P)

Lawmakers Ober (R) Ft. Wayne, and Smith (R) Columbus, are sponsoring a bill to do away with “straight ticket” voting in Indiana. It was said that there is a lot of “straight party” voting in city elections. The example was Evansville 2007 city election, there was a 18% more “D” then “R”. I found the percentage was 10% for 2011.
2014 county election shown the (R) had majority of “straight” votes.

    Partisan legislation at best?

    • This is only the beginning. If the repubs gain control of the white house they’ll see to it that blacks won’t be able to vote anymore.

      • Ghost, that was the dumbest comment ever made at the CCO. Congratulations for the new low.

        • AAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHA! You hold that illustrious record.

GTJ’s comment is only a slight exaggeration.

They WILL/WOULD do everything in their power to try and stifle the voting rights of minorities and the poor.

          • That is true. There is only one objective in the GOP efforts to “we have to stop voter fraud and demand more verification”….and THAT is to suppress black voter participation. 100% true. Widespread voter fraud is a conspiracy group headed by the “Obama was born in Kenya” group.

(I’m not sure its worked, but that is the objective. Watch, someone will chime in and defend the efforts by agreeing with that last statement. What they are doing is acknowledging the effort’s true objective indeed is to suppress black voters from getting to the polls.)

          • Ghost & Brains, professional therapy is recommended for those living in a paranoid delusional fantasy world. Your posts qualify.

          • Joe – right out of the dirt bag handbook you so proudly cut and paste. Question the mental stability of anyone who disagrees with you.

  9. Who’s going to stay in that mutating hotel in the event it’s ever built? Conventioneers? What if the next time it downsizes it changes into a dove and flies away? Oh ho ho. Ah ha ha. Why are we going to such trouble to chase the dying convention business? Are we mad at our money? This town has been terminally screwed up by weak, willful mayors and their handlers. It is broke. That will hit home when your water bills spike to satisfy their intransigence, their absolute refusal to fix the sewers to stop the effluent that they think it’s ok to dump into the Ohio several times a year. By the time the water bill wake up occurs the other Poop will be sipping drinks in the bar of his new hotel, sitting high in the catbird seat. He ascended to that roost the old-fashioned way ―having parlayed no talent into a comfortable life via politics, on your backs.

The gong has sounded in the mulct artist underworld. Martinis with the Mayor, that’ll bring ’em in. Come to the 5th floor bar of the grand hotel and pitch your scheme, tell him how special smart he is, he’ll bite. It’s free money. Medium sized scores with no strings. See the mayor surrounded by his friends, Weepin’ Weaver the slick deceiver with his bodyguard Mosby who arrived by sidecar and freight elevator. They’ve got the nod down. The dashboard doll can’t be far behind. Don’t think about sitting in one of the dark corners, those were spoken for at the first metamorphosis. There’s two-tower Huffman with a great view of … nothing. The corner with the celestial glow, uh, could it be Focus on the Family Schaefer holding court? The guy in the corner by the men’s room doesn’t show his face much, good Lord, it’s Billin’ himself firing paper airplane invoices to the Poop. The remaining corner, the Old National Supping Plaza is occupied by ole steady Bob. He’ll shake your hand and name your kid.

How will they ever leave? Somebody just listed and sold the bottom 4 floors, all in the same day. The new owner is entertaining offers to ride his elevator. Weaver brought a rope ladder, everybody else is on their own.

    • Adams normally just angers me when he opens his mouth. The elitism that oozes from his pores while he tries very hard to talk like a plumber is frustrating to say the least. But he made a good point last night while he was doing his best plumber impersonation about wanting to “get lit” on a rooftop bar. It does create an issue if the hotel is 5 stories and blocked by the medical school, also at 5 stories, and every other taller building in the area between it and the river. The idea of looking out over the city as the sun sets is gone. Even with a rooftop bar, at 5 stories there’s no chance of looking down on people. We might as well not build it. The entire purpose is gone.

      • Idea. Tear down the McCurdy and build the new hotel on it’s footprint by the river. Connect the new hotel to the Fraud Center and Civic Center with trolley cars. You get a better view of the River and something for the conventioneers to do when they are in town. Add a River boat into the mix and make Main Street into Burbon street and you have a mini New Orleans. Add some brick walls and then glue some broken colored glass to the top of the walls and it will be OK.

  10. Nailed it!! There is a lot of frantic deflection here this morning. The Winnie Wigglers are doing everything they can to change the subject. The hotel is beginning to sound like a cheap, flimsy version of the Exec at its worst.
Nobody wants to talk about the fact that the written agreement with Hilton doesn’t exist, either.
Weren’t the apartments going to be the piece of the plan that made it financially feasible? They seem to have disappeared, along with any credibility this failed Mayor had left. HCW can probably drain another million or so for new plans, and make a nice campaign contribution before the project is finally scrapped.

    • ELKAYBEE,

This is a BULL-S answer…accusing others by trying to invert a charge you are guilty of.

Oh, I am on record supporting Gail Riecken for Mayor. Winnecke is feckless, that is obvious.

And you are struggling, ELKAYBEE, trying to make a losing argument that Democrat Connie Robinson, on record as endorsing Republican Mayor Lloyd Winnecke….is ANTHING other than “politics as usual.”

LKB, you’ve lost the ability to argue against ANYONE on the “politics as usual” argument.

      • If Connie is “on the record” for supporting Winnecke please provide a link/evidence.

She was at Gail’s organizing meeting at the China Bistro, pledging her support and fundraising. Editors/moles can verify this. Maybe that’s only a tacit endorsement, but and endorsement nonetheless.

    • “The double run-off, tree high inn “. Wrap around design sounds like someone’s trying to conceal what’s on the inside from the outside. Maybe the grand courtyard will be on the side with the cheap windows.
The ballistic hardened windows facing the real world down there can then be limited for cost and face strategically chosen angles to deflect the incoming fire. Same design as the medieval castles had. Court yard views with the battlements on the outside wall. Then some little goomer came along with the Trebuchet. Once discussed the very theory awhile back with @Bandana .
Looks like the forecast might have been correct.

  11. “We have a franchise agreement…that was null and void on 12/31/14 and we lost $7500 on that applicatikn process…but we have one” Winnecke

“Can we see a copy of it” Council

“We don’t have the actual agreement to show you BUT we have a letter saying we have one….its on letterhead and everything” Winnecke

    Oh, boy!!

      • Bringing up a CCO poll is like a Democrat bringing up the results of a poll taken at a Democratic national convention. I would love to see a margin of error for those polls! HAHA!

        • Nobody considers CCO polls to be scientific. My point is that there is no contract with Hilton, just like most of us knew there isn’t. You’re an idiot.

          • He’s not an idiot he just seems like one since he’s a Civic Center/Whiney plebe/ lackey posting on behest of the illustrious Mayor Whiney.

          • Oh my goodness! I remember when I was 12, Brains Benton!

DS has a point. It’s funny you guys immediately go for insults. Like I hope you know that doesn’t win argument.

          • The issue is whether or not their is a franchise agreement.

            It’s obvious there isn’t one.

A franchise agreement is more than just an empty promise on company
            letterhead, everybody knows that.

Anyone who thinks otherwise deserves the mockery and scorn heaped upon them, including you…. lackey/idiot.

          • @Reality

BTW the immature 12 year olds are the people going around having grounding breaking ceremonies knowing full well the money is/was not in the bank to get started on the project…. for a full 18 months!! Until they finally had to fess up.

    • Well in the past his used car salesman crap worked didn’t it? Doesn’t work anymore.
When you plan a building, architects have to draw up new plans, and $$ is spent-when you make an agreement or contract, lawyers don’t look at it for free-$$ is spent-when you do countless audits, trying to put lipstick on a pig, $$ is spent. When you send your snake oil buddies in to sell useless contraptions? $$ is spent, wasted. When you tear down Robert’s Stadium against the public’s will, let Mesker Amphitheater rot, let the McCurdy rot, don’t ask for $$ to spend on the Owen block. It must be a present to someone Winnecke’s hoping to get $$ from.
I can’t wait for him to clear out. I am so sick of the clown show.
oh-And there are no 50 jobs at a Jr Food Mart, much like there are no 250 jobs at ANY hotel in Evansville.

      • You still need a real political primary in that town. By the way all the partisan jabs fluffed about today, with all due respect One wonders where is the mayors announced challengers statement on the load of bull that’s been staged at the CC meeting last night.? Looks a tad mechanical from afar. The smell is allot like the office when some healthy cuisine coworker warms his or hers haddock plate from the previous evenings doggy bag take out in the office microwave.

Oh mon Dieu, ce est cette odeur?

  12. What’s this stuff about Weaver being stripped of his Board appointments?

I missed the meeting last night.

    • Oh, yes. The board appointments that he holds were up for renewal and he didn’t get renewed. Missy got really snippy when SBR was nominated for the first board. She first said, ” I know that Jonathon goes to his board meetings, and the Councilwoman who is nominated has been missing meetings.” Then she said she didn’t understand why they were even voting on the appointment. Then the Council voted and ousted her pal.

  13. Thank God we have 2 good, and decent people, 2nd Ward City Councilwoman Missy Mosby and At-Large City Councilman Jonathan Weaver reaching across the isle and working to get things done for the improvement of the people of Evansville, while the rest of the Democrats just want the arguing, and stalemate to continue. And we know what the Democrats have brought to Evansville so far, failing schools, massive crime, almost daily shootings, just abominable failures of all sorts. Just drive through this city any day and see the poor people with broken windows, and tarps over their houses because they do not have jobs to bring in the money to fix them. Children who will have no upward mobility as long as they stay in Evansville. And who can the blame be laid upon – well the democrats have been in power all my life in Evansville, Indiana. So it must be them who are responsible for the poverty of their citizens, and the resulting crime in this city.

  14. According to some news sources the Weaver is really mad and upset at the rest of the city council members and calling them vindictive. Pot calls the Kettle Black it seems in the news headlines tomorrow.

  15. I have it on good authority(more than one source) that during his tenure as Assessor, at the snake pit that is the Civic Center, that there was no one, repeat no one who was more petty, disruptive and vindictive than one Johnathan Weaver.

This was a vindictive act, however my guess is that the CC was sick of his sh@t and wanted to put him in his place.

If it were up to CCO readers both Missy and Weaver would be bounced out of office by more than 50pts. However, that is not how it is. Both Missy and Johnathan have a substantial and very loyal base and both Alex Burton and Steve Davis have their work cut out for them if they expect to knock off either of them.

    • I seem to remember some employee in that office suing and winning for some type of wrongful termination or other blunder, whatever it was. Weaver is a guy who has never really grown up. Wants to party like a college kid his entire life. I also detect a hint of Napoleon syndrome.
