  1. Do you feel that Mayor Lloyd Winnecke raising $2,822,000 for his political campaigns since 2011 is acceptable?
I do not understand this question. Are you saying he did something illegal? Or are you saying citizens should not be able to donate to the person of their choice? Very few candidates are able to run without donations. What was unacceptable about these donations? I am confused.

    • They’re making the point that money runs our entire country, even at the local level. They’re illustrating that it makes no sense to raise that kind of cash for a job that pays 100k per year. They’re questioning what would motivate out of town donors from having such interest in the Evansville mayoral election.

      • So you’re saying the question is saying the system may be not acceptable and not that the mayor is doing anything unacceptable? I do not feel that was made clear in the poll question. Still confused.

        • Yes . . people have the right to gift to whoever they wish and as English Bob on point comment states, this is how local, state, and the national gov operate. Money talks and the rest take the bus. We do not have to accept the situation. If you go back to the McDonald, Sr days, remember the 2%-10% club when the city employees cashed their payroll checks by Sr. and of course the cash did not match the net payroll check. And any vendor allegedly had to increase their bid by 10%. So, with 2.8 mil in the coffers should we be keeping our eyes on who will be receiving the 28 mil in projects???

    • The Mayor’s $2.8 million haul shows just how divided and toothless the local Democratic party has become after their self-inflicted implosion after their Central Committee back-stabbed Mr. Davis.

      • Dear Joe . . you are so right!!! Yes, did Davis make some missteps. Of course he did. Did he take advise from a narrowly focused group. Of course he did. Who were the ring leaders? Messy Nosby, Weaver the Weasel for starters. Remember Nosby humping these tables at Main Gate such a short time ago. The Weasel hitting up his 401 K to mustard up the fund to purchase that 1999 Beamer convertible. Now the dividends have paid off. Nosby has two vehicle now and the Weasel now has traded that 1999 for a Benz!!!

        • What is most interesting about Santa Lloyd? Allegedly, he extorts 2.8 mil Starts with 90k transferred from his Commissioner’s account and now only has 12 k in the bank. If you believe this, then “it’s only a cold-sore” What can you draw from this? One might say, “he is as reckless with his own money (correction: so-called donors money) then he is with the citizens’ money” or maybe one might say, “who received the lion’s share of that 2.8 mil and perhaps those folks purchased some houses” or maybe someone of interest has an equity position”

      • Let’s see who are the benefactors of the demise of the Demo Party. We have Mr. Ellsworth. Nice enough guy apparently holds a high position at Vectren. Now comes Mr. Williams, he too is a nice enough guy holds a handsome position at ONB. And of course we have Mr. Weinzapfel who landed what would appear to be a politically connected position at IVY TECH. We should not be angry over those appointments. We should admire their industrial nature. To hell with loyalty, commitment and dedication to a believe, a cause regardless how others may view their beliefs. Pathetic!!!

    • It’s an extremely high amount for the Mayor’s race. Traditionally, one million would suffice for a Mayoral run.

  2. I sometimes think the biggest difference between selling votes and selling drugs is that, while both are illegal, we have a war on drugs.

    • Stonedreamer

You are correct. We put the wrong “Readers Poll’ question up today. The question we took down goes with a future article we are doing on political patronage.

      Thanks for reading the CCO.

  3. Main reason campaigns are so expensive is advertising. Main source of income for CCO, advertising. I do not see people go against their livelihood to often. But then I have not seen a lot of Winnecke Ads in CCO.

    • Stonedreamer

You are correct. Winnecke didn’t spend one advertising dollar with the CCO and
      we could care less.

      Thanks for reading the CCO.

  4. I hear that Weaver was asked to resign from the African American Museum board after he backstabbed the Rev. Brooks. Rev. Adrian Brooks is too well known to be a civil rights leader for Beav to do what he did and walk away from it without some scars.

    • Rev Brooks is a civil rights leader? Would a man of God want a person kicked off a Board? Wouldn’t a man of God turn the other cheek?

  5. It is a lot of money. Good points CCO Editor.

So…..WHAT IS THE ANSWER TO THE QUESTION….
“What is the potential return on an investment of $1,216,000 in 2015 in the continued leadership of GOP Lloyd Winnecke?”

It’s not a rhetorical question. It’s not a question designed to promote some anti-Winnecke narrative.
(Like English Bob…who is certain to chime in with another version of his anti-establishment “same-stuff-different day” narrative. Sorry Bob. It’s an accurate observation.)
It is question to promote analysis of the upcoming political/municipal/state landscape.

    So, again….
Why invest that kind of money in the re-election of a GOP Evansville Mayor?
    and
Who invested it? Who are those constituencies?
    Maybe a start….
    1. Is there a major public works project about to be let? (perhaps controlled by the Mayor, but perhaps financed by a combination of federal, state and local dollars)
    2. Is there a State or Municipal management of something about to be outsourced?
    3. Is there a major structural change in the management of municipalities under consideration?
    4. Is a larger, statewide, or federal initiative (like redistricting) in the pipeline?
    5. Is there a state or federal election that can benefit from Evansville’s GOP Mayor’s influence?
    6. Is there a re-zoning/land-use change initiative underway for some high value, or highly strategic real estate under consideration?

OR….is it just the amping up of City politics? Cause $1.2M is not a lot of money to some people.

    • You’re right about $1.2 million not being a lot to some people, but I don’t think the people with that kind of money would invest in to get back $400,000 and some perks. Those people spend money to make money.

    • I would be interested in a detailed breakdown of the donors to answer those questions.
