IS IT TRUE January 23, 2015

IS IT TRUE that Cheryl Musgrave, the newly appointed member of the Evansville Redevelopment Commission has wasted no time in instituting a welcome dose of transparency into this group that has worked in the shadows on behalf of their shadow bosses for way too long?…thanks to Ms. Musgrave we now know exactly how much money has been spent doing things on the downtown convention hotel project without having the financing in place to make the project happen?…the number spent to date is now $1,600,000 and except for Mayor Winnecke flipping some sand in an orchestrated deception, not a drop of sweat has fallen from actual construction work?…the people of Evansville can think of this $1.6 Million as a bet on getting THIS DEAL DONE, because if THIS DEAL does not happen, much of that $1.6 Million will have been squandered?…it would be interesting to know just how much of that $1.6 Million can be applied to a twin towers stick built hotel that would compliment Buckner Towers right next door very well?…Musgrave spoke the truth when she said that the plan for the future is what is of the highest importance?…as we should know by now, planning is not a function that the Winnecke Administration places much value on, so we suspect the plan is nothing more than hope that ONB and HCW will cut costs enough to close the financing gap?…former Mayor Weinzapfel started this legacy of hope and no planning when he triumphantly announced that “if we build an arena the hotel comes for free” back in 2008, and Mayor Winnecke has continued this legacy of no substance?

IS IT TRUE the subject of litmus testing for candidates for office in the 2015 City of Evansville elections came up recently and the CCO has been thinking about what would make good tests on whom to discard from consideration for elected or even appointed positions?…the one that sticks out like a sore thumb is perhaps the event that started the clown show and that was the Earthcare Energy LLC debacle?…as a reminder, the Earthcare Energy LLC debacle had all of the elements for a comedy show as it started with sneaking, took a path through deception, had a small herd of patronage people waiting at the trough for jobs and favors, was filled with lies and false claims, and cemented the fact that no one in Evansville’s governance except Councilwoman Stephanie Brinkerhoff-Riley had the will or the brains to conduct a VETTING process?

IS IT TRUE there were claims of patents that didn’t exist that could have been verified in two minutes by someone competent in doing an online patent search that were not challenged before writing a $200,000 check?…there were claims of final testing that were not verified in a real world condition?…there was even a claim from a supposed graduated engineer that the technology was solid?…after three years and a coming to Jesus moment, Evansville is out $200,000 and NO ONE ELSE ANYWHERE HAS GOTTEN THIS WOOL PULLED OVER THEIR EYES?…litmus test number one is that no one who was duped by or participated in this ruse should be re-elected or re-appointed to any position?…the Earthcare Energy debacle more than anything created a carnival atmosphere of incompetence that has continued from failed project to failed project culminating in the cancellation of the convention hotel deal?…the ultimate insult is that the $200,000 debt owed to the people of Evansville was delayed willfully until after the upcoming election by an appointed commission?

IS IT TRUE that come March of 2016 that debt will be due again?…the insufficient contract language crafted and signed by the Winnecke Administration will be coming back to bite Evansville squarely on the rear?…this instance made the late Rick Davis look like a prophet, with his trademark READY, FIRE, AIM characterization of Evansville’s historical mode of operation?

IS IT TRUE in yet another dance with going back to the stone age, the State of Indiana is considering eliminating the net metering feature in billing for electricity?…net metering was put into place to promote the adoption of renewable energy by customers with solar and wind technology?…if net zero metering is eliminated, it will essentially kill the residential solar and wind industries in this state?…such an action may serve the utility companies well by eliminating the ratepayers from the competition but it will send a message to the other 49 states that Indiana is just fine with how things were in the 1960’s before technology advances were made and is going to work like the dickens to get back to the stone age though regressive legislation?

Please take time and vote in todays “Readers Poll”.

    • “Should” is the operative word here. Mike Pence will do what his pals the Kochs tell him to do. They want oil and coal to do well. Pence will gleefully screw Hoosiers and any clean, renewable energy industry in the state in order to earn his ticket to DC. His impossible dream will die a cruel death and so will a lot of Hoosiers, thanks to our air and water quality.
He’s really going to stick it to us here in Vanderburgh County, when he runs Tropicana out of business. Apparently land-based gaming offends his religion even more than riverboat gambling does. The Frowner wants his religion to be Indiana Law, before he vacates the state.

      • Republicans want less government involvement except they want to tell you how to live your personal life. Stooges like POV ignore this hypocrisy. The truth is they want less government involvement in what it should be involved in and more government involvement in things it shouldn’t be involved in.

        • I’ve observed that on many occasions. Many one-trick ponies post here and have much to say about those they hate, groups and individuals, but little is offered in the way of solutions. Great minds discuss ideas, average minds chat about events, and small minds talk about people. There’s a whole lot of people bashing going on here.

          • People don’t want solutions. They just want freedom from freedom as they are lazy and ignorant, living in uncle toms cabin on uncle sams plantation.

          • Maybe he has a highly moral mouse in his pocket, so “OUR morals demand it.” Isn’t his the same poster who made threats against Connie Robinson a few days back?

          • I didn’t mean Democrat morals of course. Anyone who supports the killing of an innocent baby has no morals. I meant good, decent people’s morals. Obviously Brian doesn’t read his Bible. Wonder if he even has one. Lots of people are raised in houses without one.

        • Since 70% of Americans agree with Roe v Wade, I guess according to your logic, 70% of Americans are without morals. Hmmmm. The more you clowns talk the better liberals look, so keep it up.

Ironically, I agree with you on the casinos I think they’re immoral trash cans for poor people’s money and I wish they would go away. However, we agree for quite different reasons, as I could give care about what superstitious bronze age goat herders had to say. The pretty much got everything wrong, socially, morally, and scientifically. Banning shellfish, but not slavery?? Ugggh

          • The picture you draw BB is the reason this is a Constitutional Republic. Your love of a pure democracy where the larger opinion poll prevails is laudable but useless as every example of it having raising it’s ugly head in history has resulted in chaos and collapse.

        • Dear John,

Back in the last century, evangelicals hated drinking and was successful in passing an amendment to the constitution prohibiting drinking…and what occurred thereafter, organized crime speakeasies etc. before the boat this city had illegal gaming and on a limited sense we still do but with or without legal gaming there will be gambling at least under the current status we receive revenue which Winnecke sure needs and his wife Christmas Carol…

    • Appears that at least five states are doing the same thing based off of a article about what is happening in Hawaii. “Business point” is that the “electric meter” and electric grid does belong to Vectren. They control their property like any other business would. With this being a monopoly, they “are” bound by rules from state government. Could it be that “money talks” on this issue?

      • you think? Wow. What insight. The problem with this country is that money talks louder than the majority of the people because the people are weak evidently. When only 30% of the people show up to vote that tells me something. My problem is that I keep hoping that it will get better without actually doing anything to change it other than blog in here. I’ve had run in’s with people working for SIGECO in the past and they were not the most friendly. Fortunately there were other people in the Chamber that put the SIGECO rep in his place before he went too damn far. Thanks MJ rep. We need to stop this BS of the electric company trying to screw the rest of us and the Solar Energy Industry.

That won’t happen anytime soon as long as this State keeps putting GOP governors in the State Mansion in INDY who are not friendly to alternative energy companies. But big money from coal and oil gets in the way of that.

        • Having worked in the construction field for 38 plus years which included many projects with Sigeco/Vectren, I found the opposite with their people as you had. All of the personnel (former SIGECO employees, lower management) that I encountered were respectable and knowledgeable, for they had worked their way up through the ranks. These employees are from the same cloth as the rest of us. They do have strict rules/regulations which must be followed, but that is because of dangers of their business.

          • Concur. As with many organizations, the street level ‘grunts’ are for the most part workings folks just doing their thing and making a living in an honorable way. To get into the run of the mill corruption and incompentence, you have to go up the food chain past middle management – – the area where the atmosphere is more conducive to lower level VPs and entry level politicians dwell. REAL corporate corruption and genunine malfeasance (of the kind where people are physically and economically injured in devastating ways) are generally the purvey of CEO/CFO and high ranking public officials…

          • I was talking about some of their upper level guys and it was just one or two of them. All the other lower level guys are cool. I got along with them very well. I was in a position over some of them at one time and they didn’t like being told what to do I guess. Or maybe the guy was just having a bad day.

    • Shake on that. I said during the arena debate that we need to differentiate ourselves and aim for the future not what everyone else is doing. Evansville use to be a city of first. My suggestion was that Evansville become a mecca for alternative energy. Net metering should be our future, but we will likely never see it. This would be a good opportunity to for Gail to pull away from the pack.

    • Oh brother, Moveon mentions net metering and somehow LKB and Ghost go into rants over religion, pence, the Kochs, and republicans.

      • Precisely why I rarely visit this site. Those folks have egos the size of the great outdoors and have trouble seeing past their own noses.

  1. Net metering bill below. Reads like it is firming up the law.

    The text of SB 503:
Requires the utility regulatory commission (IURC) to adopt, not later than August 1, 2015, emergency rules amending the IURC’s net metering and interconnection rules for electric utilities. Provides that the amended rules must do the following: (1) Require a municipally owned electric utility under the IURC’s jurisdiction to: (A) offer a net metering program to all customers classes; and (B) allow all customer classes to interconnect a customer-generator facility with a distribution facility of the utility. (2) Allow: (A) a municipally owned utility not under the IURC’s jurisdiction; or (B) a rural electric membership cooperative; to offer a net metering program to one or more customer classes and allow one or more customer classes to interconnect a customer-generator facility with a distribution facility of the utility or cooperative.

  2. Republicans answer only to big business. They care nothing for the common man, but use religion, lies, and hatred for the poor and minorities to win elections. It’s an amazing phenomenon that each election half or more of the peasants vote against their own interests based on a few issues of no real substance. Thanks to citizens united all hope is lost.

    • I can’t give up hope, but Citizens United has really struck a blow to freedom. I’m amazed when the right defends that abomination.

      • lkb. Have you thanked Hillary Clinton for giving you Citizens United?
Have you seen the documentary she sued to prevent being shown, thus resulting in the Citizens United decision?

        • COMMONSENSE……finally……finally…..! You have hit the nail on the head.

The issue is Hillary Rodham Clinton for President.

It is NOT Obama. Gripe, bitch, moan like a little loser….none of it matters. Obama won in 2008. Obama won again in 2012.

The issues is WHO are you gonna make the next President of the United States?

This is from Fox News TODAY:

“Republicans have the ability to say to their base that ‘we can only move as fast as our political power allows’….and the reality is we don’t yet have the White House.”
          and
“There will not be a huge backlash for the party if they don’t confront the Affordable Care Act/Obamacare law head-on, because Republicans can easily remind voters that they did not win the White House in 2012.”
          and
“Let’s wait and get a Republican in the White House and then we can talk about serious overhaul almost completely of ObamaCare or outright strike it down.”

It’s Hillary Clinton. COMMONSENSE….your guy, can he beat Hillary Clinton for President. THAT is the subject. All the other Obama nonsense is exactly that…nonsense.

          • Not really, Schem. The issue was Hillary Clinton being responsible for the Citizens United decision. She was. And I never mentioned Obama.
Keep us posted on Fox News. Glad you watch.

          • Snaking, that means like a snake by the way, out of there aren’t you? You’re hilarious.

        • It is ironic that the unintended consequence of the legal wrangling over the Hillary movie would lead to Citizens United. It is even more ironic that it appears that the person who accidentally brought this about may well be the biggest beneficiary in history of Citizens United.
Why would anybody thank Sec. Clinton for a SCOTUS decision?

          • Simple, lkb. Had Hillary not filed suit to stop the documentary there would have been no court case, hence, no SCOTUS Citizens United ruling. You may thank her, or blame her, but she is responsible.

        • She’s responsible in the same way a women who dresses provocatively is responsible for being sexually assaulted. Please crawl back under the rock from which you came.

          • Dressing provocatively is a personal decision, as a matter of fact dressing provocatively in some places can be profitable, dressing provocatively and strolling around Kentucky and Walnut could be dangerous. Both are a matter of personal responsibility.

      • Even the Gov. of Il. has come out against Unions. You better get some more illegals up here quick, because you’re running out of Union voters.

    • Winnecke’s Party wants to reduce the working families to the working poor by eliminating the preailing wage…the union leadership gives our money to Winnecke who in turn gives to Pence…these guys will be VOTED out of the leadership of our unions…a bunch of %&*%& Benedict Arnolds…how in the hell can the likes of Mark Biard, Wendell Higdon, Paul Green, Barry Russel, and Jack McNeely escape the coming wrath of the rank and file for NOT support our advocate Rep Riecken…they better hope and pray that Gail is forgiving because she will be will be our only friend of the working class…of course the FOW (friends of Winnecke) will be prospering while the rest of us eat spam…

  3. I do not offer any intellectual arguments or premise in my assessment of Vectren, other than at 71yrs old I have been “around the block” a few times.—
    Vectren –is–a malevolent entity.

    • My Dad always termed them “a No-Good Outfit” ever since I was a Kid.
Over the years, I have seen nothing to challenge that view.

    • +1. You can’t be much more malevolent than making people choose between eating and having power to keep warm and cook with, but then you think about the bad air quality Vectren contributes to. So many people have respiratory disease and can’t afford the “luxury” of air conditioning, so they die prematurely.
Oh, yes, I almost forgot about how they donate money to “fluff” causes like period streetlights in downtown, and they advertise to tell us what a great corporate neighbor they are. I think “malevolent entity” sums it up nicely.

      • Brad Ellsworth one of the most successful democrats this area has ever produced works for Vectren. The liberals have someone on the inside, what’s wrong with that picture? Most of the stock holders that I know are democrats, what’s wrong with that picture? LBK, you’re panic peddling with that premature death stuff and no air condition. If you’re in need, there’s housing available at EHA for 30% of your disposable income with all utilities paid. And if you are really bad nursing homes paid for by Medicaid are readily available with beds waiting. When a person reaches a certain stage in their life where they are no longer able to support and care for themselves the safety net is there to catch them’

    • Malevolent is too big of a word for me to understand. Using big words is like some kind of trademark for you Crash.

      • Words can be powerful Shem , We have a great language, and I appreciate your comment on the use of it to communicate. I do hope the word communicate isn’t too big of a word for you, but such is life , get over it, and yourself,— and you may be content someday.
PS. Yes, I do keep a Dictionary at hand, I try to be concise (small word) when I post my 2-cents, and our beautiful English Language can give you that word choice.

        • My. You are so sophisticated and loquacious. Especially for a Tea Party dogmatist.

          • But really, anything–YOU–call me out of your juvenile mind, I consider a complement.
Thanks Shem, I have judged you too harshly,—your a Peach of a Guy.

  4. Winnecke campaign contributors list in the C & P this morning. Read it with total disgust. Lots and lots of engineers, construction managers, etc. from Indy, Kansas City, and local. Lots of law firms, mostly Indy. The usual suspects Billin’ Ted, ONB , Vectren, Teamsters Union. The whole cabal weighs in. Also, private citizens from outside Indy just throwing an $ 11,000 bone, hmmm, wonder which trough those people want to dine from ?

The system is completely broken and needs repair.

    • Let me ‘out’ the first disguised Winnecke donor:

C&P: “Steven Jones, a business executive from Greenwood, IN: $ 11,000”

Reality: Steven Jones, Ice Miller Construction Law Partner, Indianapolis.

    • Ms. Musgrave: thank you, please print a detailed listing of the recipients of the Hotel $ 1,600,000.

Would like to cross-reference that to the Winnecke campaign donations, specifically:

Ice Miller law firm Indy (Steven Jones)
Commonwealth Engineers Evansville (Vincent Sommers, Eric Parsley)
First Group Engineering (Dennis Cobb, Randall Willing)
HNTB Kansas City (Infrastructure Solutions Firm)
      CHA Consulting Indy Architects
Faegre, Baker Daniels law firm Indy
      Wessler Engineering Indy

      Any matches ???

      • What business does a lawyer from Indy/ Kansas have making a judgement on who should be mayor of E’patch? Answer NONE!!!!!!!

        • You think ONEMOVER? The Koch brothers are the poster child of interventionist political donations. I take it you think they have no business doing that as well.

    • And the Supreme Courts decision is going to make it worse. Now anyone can give as much as they like.

  5. “IS IT TRUE that Cheryl Musgrave, the newly appointed member of the Evansville Redevelopment Commission has wasted no time in instituting a welcome dose of transparency into this group that has worked in the shadows on behalf of their shadow bosses for way too long?…thanks to Ms. Musgrave we now know exactly how much money has been spent doing things on the downtown convention hotel project without having the financing in place to make the project happen?…”

It looks like Mrs. Musgrave and SBR are going to administer huge doses of truth to the voters of Evansville in the coming months, in order to try and save the city. The fact that Ms. Brinkerhoff-Riley placed Mrs. Musgrave’s name in nomination for the RDC isn’t lost on me. The truth will strengthen the real people here and at the same time, it will be Winnie kryptonite. This is going to be fun, sort of like a thrill ride at an amusement park.

    • LKB, when are you filing your candidacy for 5th Ward Council, and join the Troupe of Truth?

        • True. I just thought you might want to take this rare chance to jump in with both feet and give a shot at what you and others here are so quick lay judgment upon. With John Friend off the Democrat ballot, here’s your perfect opportunity to put red meat behind your political punditry.

    • It’s like watching old time cowboy movies in the 1950’s when TV was still black and white. The good cowboys wore the White Hats and you know what the bad cowboys wore. Who did you root for as a kid?

  6. Wonder what lawyer Jones got for his $11,000. Maybe only a peek into the greedy maw of idiocy. We’ll actually probably never know.

We are saddled with a blundering and ineffectual administration that is sitting on a large war chest. That large stash of campaign money didn’t grow from anything good. As with most incumbents they will be hard to dislodge but dislodge them we must. A deracination is in order for the Poop and his cronies. He stumbled into office, fumbled and lied while in office and has earned a summary cashiering. Can’t really blame them for their bunker mentality and lack of transparency. They are an absolute clown act. Let’s pull the curtain back on these accidental administrators then kick them out on their big asses. Time to back the Bekins truck up to the Civic Center.

    • The plan was that the Democrats would be too crippled to run anyone against the Poop. If that had been the case, there wouldn’t be any need to pay any attention to donor lists. They thought it was “in the bag” and along came Gail. The donor-skeletons have formed a conga line and will dance out of Winnie’s large walk-in closet intermittently until November.

      • Well, now that the Democrats are so consolidated, it would seem a good time for you, LKB, to join the Kumbayah Truth Squad, file for 5th Ward Council, and show us what you got, girl.

        • I’m 68 years old, and will likely leave this part of the county after this election. I never had any desire to hold elective office, but if I had, I would have done it about 30 years ago. Apparently you have trouble grasping the concept that when someone files to run for public office, they are opening themselves up as “public figures.” I generally don’t think that one’s personal life should matter much. If a person does a good job and doesn’t keep repeating the same personal mistake, they should not be judged on their personal failings.
I’m quite certain that there will be a competent person who wants the job who will file for the Fifth Ward seat on the Democratic ticket.

  7. Does the bill being considered eliminate net metering, or simply alter the price paid the homeowner?
At any rate, if solar and wind are such good deals, this should not effect them. As for the 30% federal tax CREDIT for their installation ; that’s another matter.

    • Take away all the Government Subsidies that have been given to coal and oil over the years and the Solar and Wind Industries would look a lot better financially. And in the end when we run out of coal what will you want to do. Sit in the cold dark or use Solar and Wind Power to energize your home or tent.

      • Move- When coal supplies are exhausted, neither you, I, anyone else reading this, their grandchildren, great—- will be here.

    • WRONG. The guys who dismissed oil when whale fat was the rage were not looking forward, and lost. The guys who dismissed gasoline when kerosene was the rage were not looking forward, and lost. The guys who still say coal is the future and not natural gas are wrong, are not looking forward, and are losing. And the leadership and people who dismiss alternative energy to oil, like wind and solar power, are wrong and not looking forward…and they are asking everyone else to lose the future. (In spite of low gas prices today – we all know they’re going back up.)

You are supporting an ignorant objective, and you are supporting the utilities efforts to stop the individual from producing his own energy by dismissing EDITOR’s objection to eliminating net metering.

      • Good grief, Shem. I simply posed a question about the bill cited in today’s IIT. Is it designed to ELIMINATE net metering?
But I do sort of feel for the unemployed whale fat distributors.

          • I-E,

That…and, well, it’s dirty as hell. I think you intentionally failed to mention that.

There’ s a price when you burn coal, called extraordinary amounts of pollution. Every see 1700’s-1800’s era urban church? It’s always built with black stone, EXCEPT its not really built with black stone, the stone used to be white. That is coal pollution stains.

The cost/benefit caught up with coal, and the EPA? Just a symptom of the problem with coal.

In fact, let’s just head every paragraph about coal with the title “The Problem with Coal.”

Even utilities are switching to natural gas. “Natural Gas. Nature’s Wonderful Dirty Coal Killer.”

    • Everyone has to grease the hands that help to feed their families. And I bet that every worker at the Civic Center has been made to purchase a 100 dollar ticket to help the party in power financially. Buy your ticket or get fired is what the rumor mill use to tell us.

      • I don’t think it was put that bluntly. It went more like, “Your department is being reorganized, and I’d hate it if they eliminate your job and can’t find you another one. How many tickets did you want?”

    • From the C&P, it appears organized labor was way less the 10% of the $366,488 brought in last year.

Of that $366,466, $238,283 was spent last year! Be interesting where it went on a non-election year!

  8. “However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion.”

The wisdom of the founding fathers in these matters is not something that finds its way to the front pages of newspapers, especially in election years. And George Washington’s words go straight to the heart of the matter of why we can not seem to elect a mayor and council for Evansville that is devoted to doing what is best for the city by a common consensus of her citizens.

The “… cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion” are here now. They have infiltrated the factions/parties and their money is liberally applied to any viable faction.

You may look at the lead story in today’s [1-23-2015] Evansville Courier and Press and know that many, if not most, of those donors will be making like donations to Gail Riecken and he party/faction.

How could anyone with even the most basic of insight into human nature look at those donations and not think that quid-pro-quo is the coin of that realm.

George Washington could have stated it a different way when it comes to elevating candidates to offices of trust: “By their fruits you shall know them. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?”

    • and- why can’t a Mayor and Council be elected who understand the city consists of more than that central circle generally known as “downtown”, especially when allocating funds.

  9. Net metering is a right as far as I’m concerned. If Vectren were 1/10th the model company they try to present they would gladly accept this electricity hathered from the sun’s rays.

    • Change your denominator to 100 (i.e., “If Vectren were 1/100th the model company they try to present . . . “). I saw an ad in the C&P recently where Vectren was a member of some type of Environmental Group in which all the cabal was present . . . can you say HYPOCRISY ??

    • Have you looked up lately? The sun rarely shines and SRM is destroying the planet.

  10. Just out

    • But shes not gonna run. I just do not believe she has the energy for it. She is so old and it is pass her time now. She didn’t have anything for Obama 8 years ago and has regressed since then. She looks terrible, just so old and dried up.

    • I hope you don’t bet the farm on an early poll like that. The media won’t let anyone run against her yet.
