IS IT TRUE January 20, 2015

IS IT TRUE in yet another incident that involves gunfire in Evansville, someone fired a shot or two inside the C. K. Newsome Center where just last week Gail Riecken announced her candidacy for Mayor of Evansville?…there is no denying the proximity to the core of downtown Evansville with this weapons discharge as the Newsome Center shares a parking lot with the building formerly known as The Centre?…we wonder what the OK Corral at the back of the parking lot will do to the value of the naming rights as they certainly have not been paid for yet?…Old National Bank better do right by their shareholders and regulators and get a new appraisal of those naming rights done before settling on a price?…ONB is a lock to save a few bucks with gunfire happening on the Back 40 as city employees call it?

IS IT TRUE that the newest thing down at the Owen Block Building is that shiny new fence that is there to keep parts from falling off and hitting people, cars, or both?…fencing has been in the news lately whether it is a theft ring fencing equipment to some thrifty shoppers in the Union County government or Mayor Winnecke’s public consideration to put a fence around the former Miller Plating lot to keep kids and dogs from wandering into the toxic waste?…Evansville may be becoming the fence capital of America which could aid the Convention and Visitors Bureau in bringing a fence builders convention to town with or without a downtown hotel?…in all seriousness, if we are to fence every toxic site within the City of Evansville there had better be a big budget for fencing because something on the order of 10,000 properties have been designated as in need of mitigation of toxic soils?

IS IT TRUE the State of West Virginia was recently singled out as being the first state in the United States to have less than 50% of the working age adults without a paying job?…this is an alarming statistic which has been the trend for the last 10 years with more and more people finding ways to get by other than working for a living?…the highest rate of employment is in North Dakota with nearly 70% of the working age population on some job?…Indiana checks in at 60% with the nation as a whole having a 62% participation rate in the labor force?…that is down from what was a stable participation rate of 67% back before the Great Recession forced people to learn how to survive without a job?

IS IT TRUE the University of Evansville Aces are having a rare successful year on the basketball court sporting a 13-5 record in mid January?…a 20+ win season with a post season appearance is looking achievable?…that aside, the Aces did get thumped badly by 13th ranked Wichita State in front of 7,000 fans at the Ford Center, showing them that they are not quite ready for prime time yet?…the trend is upward though and the CCO encourages our readers to get out and support the Aces as they enter the second half of the season hoping for a record number of wins since the turn of the century?

IS IT TRUE that President Obama will be delivering the State of the Union address tonight and the trial balloons being floated are all pointing to a raise in taxes on capital gains and dividend income?…this is consistent with the redistribution theme that President Obama has been pushing since he first announced his intention to run for president?…it is well known that wages and capital have been taxed differently in these United States for some time and the current demand for equality seems to support taxing earnings from work and earnings from investment equally?…the expected proposal does not do that, but it does get closer?…the thing that people seem to be missing is that there is one fundamental difference in labor and capital?…that difference is that capital can vanish from our borders with the push of a button and labor cannot?

IS IT TRUE raising the taxes on capital gains and dividends will necessarily raise the risk that some capital will be deployed away from our shores just as many companies have merged with offshore businesses to avoid US taxes on corporate earnings which are the highest in the industrialized world?…another unintended consequence will be a proportional decline in the value of dividend stocks and stocks in general as the new tax rates are incorporated into the investment algorithms of wealthy decision makers?…if this move will really save America’s middle class, it is probably worth doing, but the reality is that it will make little difference?…the new law if it should pass will tax the 0.1% about $400 Billion to provide a $160 Billion entitlement to the middle class with the government’s inefficiencies eating up the difference?…it will be interesting to see this play out as this is most likely nothing more than a plank in the 2016 election platform that will never make it out of the House of Representatives?

IS IT TRUE It’s hard to believe today is the 27 year anniversary that Annie Groves has been working at the Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office?  …that Vanderburgh County Coroner Annie Groves has done an outstanding job serving the public at the Corner’s office over the last 27 years?  …the City County Observer congratulates Coroner Groves for a job well done?

Please take time and vote in todays “Readers Poll”.

  1. Today’s (1/20/15) Wall Street Journal.
    First page. First paragraph.:

Views of Economy Brighten, WSJ/NBC Poll Finds – More Respondents Indicate Satisfaction, Though Political Leaders Don’t Get Much of the Credit

An upswing in the U.S. economy has contributed to a surge in economic optimism but provided no similar improvement in the standing of the nation’s political leaders, a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll shows. Half the public said the past year brought important economic improvements, a postrecession high, while more than four in 10 said they are satisfied with the state of the economy, the most upbeat reading in more than eight years. “This is a pivotal moment,” said Bill McInturff, the Republican pollster who conducted the survey (with Democrat Fred Yang.) “We’ve busted out of the great recession.”

    • ….and this too in the top article:

“President Obama’s overall approval rating has risen to 46%, up four points since just before his party suffered losses in November elections, and both pollsters saw prospects for the president’s standing to improve further if the economy continues to strengthen in the final quarter of his presidency.”

Obama is at 46%…and rising. Time to move on to the NEXT election.

All the hate spewing for Obama doesn’t make sense (…well, mainly because he WON and isn’t up for re-election, you’re peeing in the wind when you do it you know) because the guys not only is doing exactly what he said he was going to do if re-elected (as the CCO Editor points out in today’s IIT), Obama’s economy is roaring and he is getting more popular as his term ends.

      • When you’re President, you get blamed for a bad economy, or you get credit for a good economy.

Obama is six years in to his term. The Tea Party people will always complain. (Literally. Always complain.) But Obama Presidency being popular right now is challenging to argue about:

        1. Growth up to five percent in the third quarter
        2. Unemployment down to 5.6 percent in December
        3. Dow Jones Industrial Average at an all-time high
        4. Soaring profits, low inflation
5.Plunging gas prices, health care costs, national crime rates, and child poverty rates.
        6. Fewer abortions, fewer teen pregnancies.
        7. Fewer foreclosures.
        8. Fewer uninsured Americans.
        9. Five years after a devastating recession and in the sixth year of Obama’s term, the deficit has shrunk from an unsustainable 10 percent of GDP to 3 percent.

          • Hey CountryBoy…I agree. Lower deficits are better. Deficit spending is a bad idea?

            Do you?

The question is: CountryBoy, did you campaign against Dick Cheney when he said, “You know, Reagan proved that deficits don’t matter. We won the mid-term elections, this is our due.”

It’s hard to take your comments about deficits seriously when that hangs over your head.

          • A) That’s the cost of cleaning up after Bush and his Frat boy cowboy capiltalist minions. B) Did it ever occur to you that we might be better off with deficit spending when the returns are higher than the cost of borrowing? You’re myopic simplemindness is typical of conservative thinking.

          • So you think the cost of borrowing will remain lower than the returns forever ?

And you call me simpleminded ?

          • BB, deficit spending is borrowing.

Your point may still be accurate however…the epic collapse of the US economy and the catastrophic effects that would mean for the United States (canceling the military, loss of infrastructure repair and support, collapse of all banks, collapse in employment/economy/business-base, vulnerability to international enemies…etc) without the putting in place a plan for curing effects of deficit spending….well, the long term argument is deficit spending is worth the cost. Obama is fortunate. The economy grew sustainably.

But CountryBoy then gets a talking point that deficits are bad. Hey. When you’re President, sometimes that means you take the heat for choosing the long-term strategy.

          • Yes fool. When the Treasury issues bonds (10 years of more until maturity) the interest rate is fixed.!!! Dumbass!!

It’s true that if we were to borrow money even at 30 years to say rebuild the Brent Spence bridge near Cincinnati that yeah eventually those bonds will have be refinanced at perhaps much higher rates. But trying to predict that is an exercise in mental masturbation, that leads to nowhere. Any financial analyst rarely looks at anything over 15 years and anything over 30 years costs or benefits are discounted to zero.

The impacts over the next 5-10 years is what matters.

You’re flapping your yap about something you know just enough about to be dangerous.

      • “All the hate hate spewing doesn’t make sense”
        Let’s see:
        Raising Taxes
Releasing Muslim Terrorist to rejoin the fight against America
        Keystone Pipeline
Pulling out of Iraq with no clear victory over insurgent forces.
His wasteful spending on the “Shovel Ready Jobs”
Olympics for Chicago – Can’t forget this waste of time
Naming several Communists/Socialists/Muslim /Progressives to various Government positions
Being the most divisive American President in U. S. History.
Obamacare -we now know the worst boondoggle ever perpetrated on the American people
Lost all of America’s world standing! Every other leader of a country treats him and therefore us – like dirt. Especially Putin. What an embarrassment.
Chose to give America to the illegals.
        His racism against White America
Internal Revenue Service targeting of conservative groups – Truly disgusting
Operation Fast and Furious, Gun-running into Mexico, resulting in dead Americans
Choosing Palestine and the Muslims over our allies in the middle east.
        The Arab Spring
        Veterans Administration scandal
        Has spied on every American
Has killed hundreds of innocents in drone strikes
let high-ranking national-security officials break the law with impunity
Amnesty for illegal aliens to increase the population of voters for Democrat elections.
Associated Press Scandal – Remember this? When Attorney General Eric Holder issued his own Subpoena to seize phone records of a Fox news journalist?
        Closing Guantanamo ?????????????
Recess Appointments – Shows what an underhanded POS he is
        Solyndra – Remember this one????
Benghazi Benghazi Benghazi Benghazi Benghazi Benghazi Benghazi Benghazi Benghazi Benghazi Benghazi Benghazi Benghazi Benghazi Benghazi Benghazi Benghazi Benghazi Benghazi Benghazi Benghazi Benghazi Benghazi Benghazi Benghazi Benghazi Benghazi Benghazi Benghazi Benghazi

and I didn’t even start on his foreign policy failures…….

        • Have your taxes been raized? Oh, and Benghazi! Haha! Fox news has even given up on that one.

          • Ghost- My taxes have increased along with other fees. Healthcare costs continue to climb.

          • Ghost- I threw that out to see if i could get some peoples blood pressure up this A.M. The tax rates have remained the same except for high earners. We need to get back to where almost all people pay at least a some tax. Way to many deductions and exemptions. I would like to see all tax reg’s repealed and start all over.

          • It’s about time they stopped bashing people on Benghazi. They beat the hell out of that dead horse. But it was not even a horse. It was more like a wooden horse that was empty inside and the attack on Obama was. With out any substance. When will Fox New apologized to the POTUS for all their ill attacks? Remember that the GOP lead commit exonerated the Obama Administration for the Benghazi attack. Just as Bush didn’t let 911 happen on his watch or Reagan was not responsible for the attack on our embassy in Lebanon or was it Africa?

        • John
I only wish I could match your talent for archiving Obama blunders. Thanks for reminding us of some of them. His legacy will be one of shameless ignore-ance and shameless arrogance.
Perhaps the perfect dynamics … to qualify as the worst President of all times. …

          • This shocks me, bubba. All presidencies have some less-than-shining moments, and this one is no exception, but agreeing with the stupidity of the things John lists just doesn’t seem like you.
Bush has a lock on that “worst president” award. It’s why his seemingly decent and competent brother, Jeb, won’t ever be elected.

        • That’s quite an impressive list of lies, hate, and ignorance you’ve compiled there, John. You do have health insurance, right? Thanks to one of the best presidents the US has ever had, Barack Hussein Obama, mental health treatment is covered just like physical problems. Get help!

          • There’s no help for some of these people. Obamas first election put them on the edge of their flat earth, the second sent them tumbling over.

          • If they are lies, please provide links to the truth. Conjecture and personal opinion on your part mean nothing in a debate. We all know that you and your racist views automatically steer towards anyone who is a “supposed” minority. You will jump in line with any candidate who is female, latino, african american or other minority, despite knowing nothing about their beliefs, background or ambition. But you will join hands with them no matter what because they can be like you and use the victim card anytime they get in a jam.

The idea that he is the best president ever is completely absurd. I know you hold him in esteem with the other libs like LBJ, FDR and Woodrow Wilson. I mean any president that takes from those who actually work and earn a living, and redistribute it to “less fortunate” (90% of whom are gaming the system, because that is how they were taught)

I find it amazing that despite your many years on this planet, you have failed to garner an accumulation of any common sense, any self worth, nor the ability to think for yourself.

          • @ Bandana: Yes, poor BM keeps demanding links to things that are common knowledge in the real world and then he hurls a personal insult. He’s got quite a method to his madness.

          • I find it curious that you can, with a straight face, discount the list as lies, hate and ignorance when every example stated has been fully examined, investigated, vetted etc and been catalogued as viable and in most cases calculated by the administration. Are you wearing blinders or hoping to place them on others?

          • LUTHER:

You are being willfully ignorant. But you know that. You’d prefer the lie.

The GOP House Panel, and the GOP MAJORITY CONTROLLED THE PANEL, issued a report Benghazi conspiracies were unfounded! The GOP HOUSE for God’s sake!

Luther, I think you’re gonna believe what you want to believe….but what the hell. Here are the headlines and links from two sources from when the Report was published this last Nov 21st:

Republican-led Report Debunks Benghazi Theories and Accusations
            http://www.cnn.com/2014/11/21/politics/benghazi-attack-report/

            and

CBS NEWS, WASHINGTON — The CIA and the military acted properly in responding to the 2012 attack on a U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, a Republican-controlled House committee has found. Its report asserted no wrongdoing by Obama administration officials.
            http://www.cbsnews.com/news/benghazi-report-from-republican-led-house-panel-debunks-allegations/

The Tea Party people will literally always complain. (Literally. Always complain.)

          • LUTHER, what in the hell are you talking about?

…this is settled business by none other than the HOUSE majority controlled GOP Benghazi report.

“WASHINGTON — The CIA and the military acted properly in responding to the 2012 attack on a U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, a Republican-controlled House committee has found. Its report asserted no wrongdoing by Obama administration officials.

Debunking a series of persistent allegations hinting at dark conspiracies, the two-year investigation of the politically charged incident determined that there was no intelligence failure, no delay in sending a CIA rescue team, no missed opportunity for a military rescue, and no evidence the CIA was covertly shipping arms from Libya to Syria.”

          • LKB – Yes, poor BM keeps demanding links to things that are common knowledge in the real world and then he hurls a personal insult. He’s got quite a method to his madness.”

All I ask for is evidence and or facts that back up your random opinions that you like to throw out. But as usual you change the subject and try to ignore what is being said/asked.

As for hurling insults, you are one to know. You have rarely if ever posted on here, in a reply to someone who disagrees with you, and not tried insulted and belittling them.

And ole Shemmy boy must have had a rough night cruising/trolling the riverfront, because he is on here again trying to act all important and all knowing. It helps his personal self worth to act the way he does on here.

        • This list(save the drones issue) is 100% misinformation, lies, made up sh@t, conservative propaganda, myths, and various sundry conservative claptrap and prevarications.

In summary it is total and complete manure, BS, the work and belief of a brainwashed assclown.

Anyone taking 30 seconds out of their day to fact check/cross check this list would find them complete and utter fabrications and distortions.

        • …..John’s list is a WHINER list. AND it’s a Tea Party favorite conspiracy list.

John’s little else to do. He voted for Michelle Bachmann for President – wrote her name in. And after sitting on the loser bench for two Obama terms, he will bitch about the weather and convince himself it is Obama’s fault.

(I forgot…if John were told Obama was born in Kenya, he would swear it was true…Oh man, that’s right. JOHN, YOU LEFT OFF OBAMA WAS BORN IN KENYA!!)

        • Our latest foreign policy blunder was sending James Taylor to sing “You’ve Got a Friend” to the French after we blatantly marginalized the solidarity march by our marked absence. It was an utterly implausible, surreal scenario yet it was indeed captured on tape for all the world to see. We have become a joke around the world with our red lines drawn and and our apologizing head of state, for whom one of the “prettiest sounds on earth” is the Muslim call to prayer, as he stated in 2007, and then went on to recite the opening line in an Arabic accent. You can’t make this stuff up.

          • Hey Ellen Winker:

What’d you pay for gas this week? (No one cares about James Taylor….)

          • As I recall, you’re one of the Putin admirers, aren’t you, Ellen? If Obama would just be “manly” like everyone’s favorite megalomaniac, the US economy could be on the verge of crashing, just like Russia. You folks who think you are patriots and protectors of the Constitution and fawn over dictators crack me up.

          • Putin is a bully and a gangster protecting the Russian oligarchs/1% who invaded another country on phony pretexts, hates gays, and crashed their economy….

So naturally the Foxbots and RW nutbags love him.

          • LKB hit that nail on the head. ELLEN WOERTER was praising the hell out of Putin. The Russian economy is in shambles now, and the US is the leading economy in the world now (WSJ, 1/2/15). And Ellen is hiding in the bathroom.

          • Ellen, Obama was not invited to Paris. The rally was not for world leaders but world class leaders.

        • John, very true. Sure signs of the “most transparent administration in history”.

  2. Our corporate taxes are not the highest in the industrialized world. Stop lying.

Trickle down caused the great depression and the bush depression. Ready to give it another try?

    • According to Forbes the USA is #2 behind Japan in highest corporate tax rates so I guess you are technically correct. The point remains the same though. Being second in corporate tax rates is not a way to promote hiring or growth. How has being #1 worked out for Japan over the last 20 years?

      http://www.forbes.com/pictures/mkg45edgle/japan/

      • Tell me what was actually collected in taxes after monkeying around, not the base rate.

        • The effective rates are reported in Forbes on the link I posted. if we were competitive, companies would not be merging with others to avoid our taxation. As long as good companies are leaving to pay less taxes, ours are too high. The only safe things to tax without risking flight are property, wages, and consumption. Europe doubles down on consumption with the VAT tax and by taxing their people’s wages very highly.

          • It is not healthy for anyone when companies are making decisions based on tax avoidance rather than growth.

          • It is the nature of business to pay the lowest price or tax under any circumstances. Lot of dilly-dally talk to try to gain a talking point going on here……YES, we need tax reform. Both parties agree. Business will prefer lower taxes. (Every. Time.)

          • I used to travel to a lot of different countries doing contract work, still do some work, but slowed down a lot. That VAT=Value Added Tax of 14% in Germany plus over a $5 per gallon gas tax seems high and is, but those folks have something for their country that we simply don’t have, they really love their country. They don’t have a lot of corruption and the people respect each other. I think that above all else they get and see a real value for their tax dollars. We see the Fraud Center.

      • Lived and worked in Japan for a couple of years. One thing above all else sets them apart from us. They are a homogenous society that care and respect each other and their country. The family is #1 above all else and they limit their family to what they can take care of. They are honest and above board in the dealings with each other and can close a deal with a hand shake and no lawyers present. They don’t attack and kill each. Laziness is frowned upon, in this country it is commonplace. Simply put they are people of faith living in an orderly society. I do not believe that paying tax is that repugnant to the Japanese.

  3. “IS IT TRUE in yet another incident that involves gunfire in Evansville”

~b~ EVANSVILLE: A thriving little crime scene … with a huge and growing PR problem

    • Mike, that link to Barack Obama BS Bingo is a classic! Can’t wait to play tonight on the State of the Union address.

    • For more advanced Barak BS Bingo players, change the square “Uh, I, Uh, Umm” to “Top 1%” , the square “I,me, my” to “won life’s lottery” and finally the square “crisis” to “tolerant and peaceful religion.”

      • It just figures that a bunch of the most mindless righties would have fun playing bingo when everyone’s card is alike! They’re an easily amused lot.

  4. 80% of the benefit of the reduced capital gains tax treatment goes to the top 1/10th of 1%. 19% of the benefit goes to the remaining 1%, people making over $250,000 get 99% of the remainder.

It’s an absurd, grotesque gift to the ultra rich. Of course the CCO now calls it “redistributionist” . Did the CCO call it redistributionist when it went the other way? Towards the super wealthy? OF COURSE NOT.

Now the bought out GOP harlots are trying to make it sound as if this is going to hit your local pizza joint or dental practice as if your local successful shop owner, was in the same category (or tax bracket) as the Waltons or the Koch Bros!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA!

The oligarchs have transferred about $30 TRILLION to themselves over the last 20-30 years by buying politicians and rigging the system. Does the CCO have a problem with that? If they do they sure do not mention it.

The wealth inequality has gotten SO BAD, that even some GOPer’s are grumbling about it.

BTW the insinuation that all lot of the tax hikes will be eaten up by “government inefficiencies” has to be one the biggest strawmen/deflections ever created here. Obama’s community college program is paid for by this along with other middle class programs.

    • Brains- 1st paragraph. If they are the one paying the tax they should get any reduction, in the real world.

    • It’s a shame that there are no rich GOD’s=Greedy Old Democrats. The richest people in congress and the Senate are democrats. They owned both houses for 4 years and what did they do, gave us obamacare, a real botched abortion. No tax on the super wealthy, they tried and look at how many people left this country, gave up their citizenship. America, the USA is a great place for the Union bosses and their minions but hard on the working family, every place in the world is great for the wealthy. The plan of the liberals is real socialism, everyone will be equal, according to the needs and it is working except for the rich. As jobs move offshore, the offshore people have higher wages, the wages in this country decrease, at some point we’re all suppose to be equal. I don’t think so, their lifestyle will increase and ours will continue to decrease until we’re at the lower end. Those offshore people are energetic, hardworking, resourceful, willing to defer gratification and they will win. Clinton is a liberal, his wife is a liberal, they are part of the elite and they have theirs’ and you have yours to get. Bill gave us NAFTA with the help of the unions and if Hillary is our next president I think she will give us countries without borders.

  5. C. K. Newsome Center Is it true that this is where the new police officers are trained in the Southwestern IN Training Academy?

OK it’s time for the Mayor to form a task force to get to the root causes and stop this chaotic gun firing all around the city these days. I mean when they find guys with machine pistols and AK47’s in the car it’s time to stop this crap NOW. We need to be more pro active I guess. At least some people are talking to the police and trying to ID these idiots and put them in Jail where they belong. It’s an every day occurrence that someone is either shooting at others or getting shot by gunfire. What is this city doing to actually find and put these gangs in jail. And the Judges need to keep them there. If they can’t then they need to lobby the state legislature to pass laws that will keep them in jail where they evidently belong. We can’t have gun fights breaking out inside city owned buildings. Maybe it’s time to secure the C.K. Newsome Center with metal detectors like the Civic Center. At least they caught this one. And they caught the three others that were preparing to retaliate. That’s good. But this has to stop. Does everyone need to arm themselves in order to be safe these days from these thugs.

    • “OK it’s time for the Mayor to form a task force to get to the root causes and stop this chaotic gun firing all around the city these days. ”

      Root causes?

+ Lack of positive role models among certain demographics
+ Lack of job and educational opportunities among certain demographics
+ Lack of paternal and maternal involvement among certain demographics
+ Glorification of violence and criminality among certain demographics
+ Easy access to high capacity semi-automatic weapons in society in general
+ A ‘revolving door’ criminal justice system hindered by lack of legitimate rehabilitation for prisoners
+ Overpopulation of prisons with low-level drug offenders, less room for real bad guys
      + Etc.
      + Etc.
      + Etc…

Any of that stuff sound familiar?

      • Yea those are all good reasons for the life style that they choose. Now what do you propose to do about it. The main point of my post was how do we stop the shootings? Being on EFD you probably see a lot more of the city that most people. Someone has to fix the problem. I would think it would start with leadership Evansville and that’s headed up by the Mayor. Let’s see if his trickle down ideas will work. One person can’t do it all alone. So we need a task force to work on this.

        • I actually do see alot of this happening in my response area, and I don’t have any idea how you fix it. I personally don’t think it’s fixable, and certainly not by an elected official. Maybe that’s just me being a pessimist, but the news is making me feel pessismistic about society lately.

  6. I know why Bolin and Cullum haven’t said anything about the three people EPD questioned after the shots got fired. They were three kids, between 12 an 14 years old. The big, bad cops stopped the 3 black kids and hand cuffed them while they questioned them and then let them go. I was told that not one of those kids had ever been in trouble. Good job, EPD.

    • The mainstream media is reporting they’ve arrested four people in connecting with that stuff in the community center. It also said someone was injured in a robbery at Kentucky and Washington sounds like that was a knife attack or something.

Our social economic environmental group has some thoughts on how to build some multiple purpose structuring for the community that very well might shift that stuffs numbers to a lower percentage. We’d take the approach for all around community safety through some more balanced mobility offerings, that are in fact in tune with the sensitivity of the citizens fourth amendment rights as well. Of course with a lower crime rate comes a lower revenue stream from that across the combined boards also.

      • Ch 7 News at 12 PM reported that these four, fine outstanding citizens had over 70 arrest among them!

        • Why then are they not behind bars in a PRISON? 70 arrests but how many convictions? Where is the Mayor’s gang task force? We need to do a better job of Preventing these shootings.

          • Cowboy no, you ask them. You probably spend more time in front of them than most. How about you ask the Mayor to do more to stop the shootings in the first place. He has more sway over the Judges that you or I.

          • Democrats are harder to police than citizens. Judges bend over backwards not to appear racists and in the process set young black males up for more trouble. If they’ve been arrested over 70 times amongst them, then why should they be punished this time? When they appear before the judge the court will be filled with folks from their community praising them as poor lost souls that need another chance and will receive it from their people. There’s no rehabilitation for these folks, rehabilitation implies a former better state to return to. The recid rate in this group is the highest in this country. If they go to prison they will return to their community, bigger, meaner, tougher and with a whole set of new skills taught to them by their fellow inmates. There’s a lot of programs taking a lot of time and money and none of them are working. Check out the recidivism rate of this population.

    • I’m sure the EPD gave those “tweens” something to remember for the rest of their lives. I wonder if they even got parental permission before questioning the youngsters. Handcuffing kids who were just walking down the street, before questioning them seems cowardly, to say the least. I wonder if these kids were big for their age. After all, looking older than he was is what a lot of people use as an excuse for the killing of Tamir Rice. He should have known better than to grow so much. It was really thuggish of him.

      • Tamir Rice was killed because he pointed a toy gun at a police officer which was indistinguishable from a real gun, and the fact that it might have been a toy gun was not related to the officers by their dispatch center. Not because he was black, and not because he was a big kid.

About these stops post CK Newsome shooting – – anybody know the background of these stops? Where is this information coming from? Were the police officers stopping these kids because they had been indentified as possibly involved with the shooting? If so, was it ‘cowardly’ to search and secure the kids before they were questioned, or an entirely appropriate and constitutionally acceptable law enforcement procedure?

‘Tweens’ are completely capable of pulling a trigger, and are in fact a preferred demographic for gang foot soldiers since they will almost never be charged as an adult. To not question said kids if it was indicated they might be involved would have been extreme dereliction, to not secure said kids would have been extremely bad officer safety. Handcuffs = safety for officers and safety for the secured.

LKB, seriously, why do you ALWAYS automatically assume the worst about local LE? I’m genuinely curious. Is there any situation where you think they have ever done anything right?

        • Oh, I’ve talked plenty about the house that was lost during my ugly divorce over thirty years ago. Do you spend much time talking about what you did that long ago in online forums? If so, you are one boring, boorish so-and-so.
I’m pretty sure you don’t really know much about me, but you may have heard some gossip. The bottom line is that I have done nothing that would allow you to deprive me of my First Amendment rights, but you surely wish you could.

        • I think I smell burnt tail feathers. Could it be that a faux phoenix is trying to rise from the ashes of his hopes to get a job from a Republican Sheriff that didn’t materialize? Talk about a bird that’s engaged in some shenanigans!!! He does, however, still have his First Amendment rights.

      • Exactly what should we do with those police officers? We put them in some pretty tough situations and expect them to perform flawlessly. This was a shoot, don’t shoot situation with a gun pointed at you and you have yourself and other citizens to think about. We give police officers guns because we expect them to get in that blue uniform and put their butts between us and the bad folks. Tamir was a very unfortunate incident and everything, you, me or anyone else thinks or says is worthless. We were not in the arena, we did not experience the fear or the need to make a sudden decision, we can criticize or second guess to our hearts content but the people in the arena at the very least desire some respect. Shouldn’t the parents and community leaders share some of the blame? Some folks in Cleveland are showing some pretty bad judgement, they are telling young people that whatever they do, they will be supported by their community. Put a cop in a shoot don’t shoot situation and you’ll probably get shot and I think this is going to occur more often in the future. I don’t think police officers need sensitivity training, I think people need to be taught how to address and approach authority. This segment of our population is teaching some fairly dangerous things to their children that is not going to have a happy ending.

        • This is VERY, VERY old news. I’m 67 years old and have more than one skeleton in my closet. I don’t know anybody who doesn’t have a few of them. It’s really moronic to imply that anybody who’s had some bumps in their road shouldn’t have the right to make political comments. If that were true, you would have lost your commenting rights a long time ago. It is also moronic to think that I sit in front of a computer all day and do nothing. I’m quite certain I do more for the good of humanity by noon on most days than you do in a month.
It’s amusing that you have resorted to being two different posters now, Phyllip. If I was a lowlife who’d physically take a protest sign away from someone at a demonstration and get asked to leave by the police I was “supporting” by bullying a woman, I’d try to hide my identity, too. I understand that Winnie really wants you to “lay low” for awhile after the way you embarrassed yourself (and those you try to force your admiration on), but you’re not doing a very good job of it.

      • Actually the house did pass all inspections. It had just been renovated to the tune of $50,000. A political foe went to the paper and lied about it. The paper printed the story without checking it out. Once the bad publicity was out, the job was gone. That was at the time I became a single mother of five. I found out too late that the party who’d been ordered to make house payments hadn’t done it, but I really couldn’t stay downtown by then anyway. I had worked for a federal program that had been defunded and was encouraged to take the building commission job. I held a few political jobs in my life, but they all required qualifications that I met.
If being active in politics and holding a political job makes one a hypocrite, then it’s kind of amusing that you aspire to be a hypocrite and can’t seem to achieve your wish.

        • You have missed their point completely. I am sorry that you went through what you did. I would not wish that for anyone. I truly am. Where the money came from and the amount is what they seem to be pointing at. The amount borrowed was more than the value of property should allow by a loan standard. The funding for it was out of character to what you currently post or write about. It is not the only thing that differs from post to post. You often attack other’s comments and their intelligence or character immediately. Then on the last comment add that THEY resort to insults. It is a lot like the kid that cries bully on the playground. When in fact the bully was not a bully at all.

    • Citation for this, please?

If true, it’s a very good job by EPD, actually. Persons of interest were briefly detained, questioned, and when it was found they were not involved they were released. Nobody hurt, and potential leads investigated and closed. Textbook street level investigative work, actually.

  7. A LOT of people came to this site after Gail’s announcement and where turned off by the Obama bashing and
mostly the RW posters and their conspiracy nonsense.

    Editors take note.

    • We take note. We also affirm the right of anyone who posts here to exercise their freedom of speech in this forum as long as no one is threatened. I personally notice an abundance of Bush and Reagan bashing as well and have never disciplined a comment writer over political views expressed even when they are exaggerated and intentionally misleading. Obama, Bush, Reagan, Clinton, etc. are big boys. The bashing comes with the office, just as it does with Mayors.

      • True Editor. Good job. I beat the hell out of you, and you always stand with a straight back. There will always be something to find fault with an administration responsible for the top job. But the Obama economy metrics…measurable sustainable (multi-year) progress…it has to be acknowledged sometimes.

      • Editor, I call BS on your post!

About month and a half ago I mention two incidence that was wide spread knowledge from the news media about a certain lawyer of topic that day. Everyone one on this site know that I post in a way that “never” threatens anyone! I do challenge their post for better knowledge, but refrain from personal belittle of that poster.

My question to you editor was why I was threaten of permanent ban when my post falls well within your 12:45 post? Possible conflict of interest?

        • Your credit’so good with me. Has anyone been permanent banned? Really, I don’t know.

        • I can’t imagine you ever posting anything that would merit such a reaction. Wow!

      • I normally bash Bush or Reagan in response to the Wing nuts bashing of Obama. I’d rather ridicule them than threaten them. 🙂

    • B.B. – A few weeks ago i would say about 90% of the posters leaned to the left side. There was 5 or 6 doing most of the posting. My guess now would be about 75%. If you take out V (which a lot of people don’t read) it narrows some more. With you, LKB and Move on without org hammering away you will continue to be in the lead.

      • You seem to be one of three or four Winnie minions who’ve shown up here since Gail announced, frantically trying to deflect attention from the fact that the Poop becomes less electable by the day. Plenty of the Republicans here are so embarrassed by the current administration that you can bet they either won’t vote or will secretly vote for Gail and her team.

    • Well those poor people. It must have been traumatic. Everyone, please don’t bash Obama or Brains will shut this forum down. You’ve been warned.

      • OK can we bash Lindsey Gram now. How about John McCain or my favorite Cheany or maybe Sarah Palin? It’s always fun to pick on little Sarah.

      • Ahhh the tried and true or rather the tired and blue, create a strawman to illicit a reaction and soothe your inferiority complex MO of IE the racist, bigot and general RW nutjob. I would go on but it would take a team of therapists several years to undo the emotional knots, and intellectual CF you’ve wound yourself into. So say three Hail Yehways, Kiss your centerfold of Reagan goodnight, and cuddle yourself up in bed with all your guns and say goodnight. I’m sure you’ll be dreaming a dream of you and Mike Huckabee on bus tour being a lady parts inspectors and monitoring all the pregnancies of women across the US and the world. Those bad bad girls out for a night of YOLO! Bad bad girls.

        • Awwwww, you’re taking all this Obama bashing way to hard. Poor child, you should take your forum and go home.

    • BB this is as foreign coming from you as the truth coming out of Jessie Highjackson’s mouth. This is very typical of liberals, you’re OK as long as you agree with what I choose for you to agree to. How do you know people were turned off? I think a lot of people like to read about Obama bashing because it reinforces what they believe about him. I think Gail is part of the good boy/girl system and will not be good for Evansville. A republican mayor and a democrat CC has prevented anymore major disasters like the Fraud Center from happening over the past 3 years. If we have a democrat CC and Gail becomes mayor I think the CC will giver her up to 50 million for a new hotel. The last 3 years have been nothing but a game.

  8. It’s interesting that Pigeoncreek Sham has dropped the pretend Republican act. It may be a sign that OFA can’t make payroll, even at a nickel per post.

  9. Mitch McConnell called his primary opponent, Matt Beven, fringe among other lovely names, and said the Tea Party deserved to be crushed.

SOOOOO, who does he call “perfect” to give the republican response to the SOTU?

Why Tealoon favorite and whackadooddle Joni Ernst OF COURSE!!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmPLoOSMNVU

      • Ah, the small of ignorance and blind hate is stinking up the boards tonight. You are one stupid and prejudiced piece of shit if God ever made one. Stick your mindless emotional response up your backside. You are too damn stupid to make an intelligent post.

          • Well, me thinks the ekaybee woman referred to a United States Senator as a red flag waving hog castrator. Are the two of you seriously thinking that is okay? Come on dude, that is not constructive. You were on here this morning bitching about Obama bashing and you attack a senator as a nut cutter. Give me a break you damn hypocrite.

          • I wonder if PD has now become three posters. Reality apparently is not aware that Senator Ernst is very proud of her experience castrating hogs. It’s how she introduced herself to the nation. I think that commercial is likely the smartest thing she ever did.

        • A) When you only speak negatively about Obama’s policies day in and day out over and over again without mentioning any positive thoughts or accomplishment and also never holding his opponents to the same standard then you’re just pushing a BS agenda and it’s not objective reporting in the least nor is it healthy for the bottom line either because everyone sees it for what it is(whether the editors want to admit or not) calls it out, as was shown on my FB news feed

          B) Joni Ernst wants to eliminate the IRS and the EPA!!! How constructive is that? Why should anyone take her seriously??? I’m dead serious when I say that women(and many others like her) are certifiably grade “A” bat shat crazy. I MEAN IT. She is ignorant beyond belief and her policy stances are just plain F^^^ing crazy, period.

She might as well indiscriminately drag people out into the street and shoot them in the face.
You’re LITERALLY talking about poisoning the ground, our water and air. PLEASE spare me the “states” could do it better. It’s even easier to buy off a governor and state legislature than the FEDS.

        • I think you mean “smell” instead of “small”. When people become overly emotional, the make dumb mistakes. You know, like taking signs away from protestors.

  10. Wow! The hog castrator, Joni Ernst, is waving the red flag. She’s already said she isn’t going to respond to the President’s speech. Now she’s delivering a slightly updated version of her stump speech. I worked at Hardee’s, I worked with my father, I only had one pair of shoes, blah…,blah… . Her delivery is a lot like Jindal’s was.

    • LOL Just another ignorant hateful loon who lives in her suburban white privilege bubble.

“Protect Life” but take away people’s health care. Talk about hateful prejudiced piles of poison!

      • I meant “white flag”. The first thing she said was that she wasn’t going to respond to POTUS. He hit that one out of the park. I was watching the “pulse” responses, and there were an awful lot of Republicans agreeing with him.

      • Whos closing down Hospitals and Clinics? Whos stopping drugs from being manufactured and distributed?
I know the Carmi hospital closed, so I guess those peoples healthcare was taken away?….
I did see on a episode of General Hospital they quit working on a patient, unhooked the respirator and rolled it out the room. Did Joni do that?

        • It’s not misogyny. The girl valedictorian veteran is also a mean-spirited, hateful, tealoon who would turn on other women in a heartbeat. She’s just another “great American” seeking to inflict her own bigotry and beliefs on the entire country.

          • LKB, comments typical of the “tolerant” liberal left about the “girl valedictorian” Tsk, tsk.

          • Yep, that’s been proven. We are centrists, but when the stupid shit is that blatantly proven by those very statements there is no recourse.
            That’s some stupid stuff.

            bla·tant·ly
            ˈblātn(t)lē/
            adverb
in an unsubtle and unashamed manner.
“the general staff blatantly manipulated press coverage of the war”
used to emphasize the speaker’s opinion that something disapproved of is clearly the case.
“he found her remarks to be blatantly racist”
