IS IT TRUE Attorney Scott Danks has been selected to be the next chairman of the Vanderburgh County Democratic Party?…Danks as it turns out was the only candidate to file for the office by the Wednesday deadline, but he still needs to get some votes to be installed as Chairman?… He will be running against “none of the above” in the caucus of Democrat precinct committee members?…with Democratic and liberal activists across the nation resorting to absurd stunts like showing their bare butts to a building and bashing out windows to express their distaste for the newly elected President Donald J. Trump, the Democrat Party is in need of some mature leadership?…the City County Observer believes that Scott Danks is a good man for the job as he has shown wisdom and good judgement to go with his well known tenacity?…the Democrats on a national level would be well served to get other people like Scott Danks into leadership positions and repudiate the street idiocy that seems to ignite somewhere nearly every day?…we wish Scott and the Vanderburgh County Democrat Party much success in being a good example of how to be an informed opposition instead of an inflamed one?…if at the national level the Democrats do not cease behaving like spoiled adolescents, they risk being out of power in all three branches of government for the foreseeable future?

IS IT TRUE it has been several days since the Merit Commission concluded its hearings into the actions of three EPD officers during the arrest of a homeless man? …the hearing publicly exposed a deep divide between the men and women of the Evansville Police Department and their Administration?

IS IT TRUE prior to the Police Merit Commission rejecting Evansville Police Chief Billy Bolin’s recommendation to terminate two officers and demote a third?  ..serious questions were raised by the EPD rank and file officers as to transparency and impartiality of the Administration’s investigation into the incident? …its been alleged that evidence was presented that not only were the recommendations made before the investigation was complete, but the Administration deviated from the long established chain of command?

IS IT TRUE we are told that many in the public are concerned about the divide between the officers protecting our streets and their Administration? …while this was a continual theme throughout the Police Merit Commission hearing, it was most evident in the public comments portion of the hearing when an EPD sergeant expressed that officers feel there was a “lack of leadership” within the department? …now that the hearing is over and the 2019 mayoral race is beginning to take shape, all eyes are on Mayor Winnecke to see if this alleged “lack of leadership” statement applies only to the Evansville Police Department or if it extends all the way to the Mayor’s Office?

IS IT TRUE the former CCO contributing author Joe Wallace and his wife Karen will be joined for dinner tonight by former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice?…Wallace and Rice first met at Stanford University back in the 80s when they were both young energetic whippersnappers and should have much to talk about that they were both up to their eyeballs in?…perhaps the most activist thing that happened on campus back then was the establishment of a ragtag group called Mandella Free University that was demanding that Stanford divest it’s holding of all things tied to South Africa until Nelson Mandella was set free from the Robbin Island prison?…that worked like a charm as divestment drove justice without firing a shot, setting a fire, or breaking any windows?…Mandella went on to become president of South Africa and lead his country elegantly through troubled times of change?

IS IT TRUE that the United Neighborhood Association is being downsized to one liaison employee and assigned to DMD? …it’s well known that the United Neighborhood Association has long been used to generate the “get out the vote” effort for the Winnecke political machine?

IS IT TRUE that two Evansville City officials will present their views on what Evansville is doing to provide affordable housing for the City’s less fortunate at the next Southern Indiana Democracy for America Town Hall. Lots of “substandard” homes are being demolished under new programs like the Land Bank. Kelly Coures, head of the Department of Metropolitan Development and City Councilman, Justin Elpers will discuss City initiatives to avoid gentrification as homes are torn down and replaced in public/private partnerships.

IS IT TRUE The Town Hall meeting will take place on Wednesday, March 1, at 7 PM in the Browning Room A of Central Library. SOINDFA conducts monthly Town Halls on issues of importance to the Tri-State the first Wednesday of each month to provide a forum for citizens to express their views in a civil, moderated discussion. The sessions are free and attendees are encouraged to give their opinions.

FOOTNOTE:  Todays “Readers Poll” question is: Do you think that local Attorney Scott Danks can turn the Democratic Party of Vanderburgh County into an competitive organization once again?

  1. Danks seems like a good choice. The democrat extremist have dragged the party left for so long that they lost all connections to the middle. They need to cut lose the far left radicals least the democrats become a fishbowl of oddities and idiots.

  2. Not surprised that something Joe Wallace and Rice would put their efforts towards would have a positive affect. I would love to serve rolls at this dinner.

  3. Maybe if Scott Danks gets the Chairman’s job for the Vanderburgh County Democratic Party he can move their headquarters to his Professional’s Plaza LLC property at the former EVSC administration building at the Civic Center. The additional lease money would come in handy in catching up on his property taxes for the property.

Did Ben Kunkel get stiffed for the lease payments that were unpaid when the Democratic Party headquarters moved out of his Walker building?

    • Did the Demos ever pay the Baurer Haus for the years ago Kennedy dinner? Did insurance cover the tens of thousands of dollars of frozen pipe water damage to their HQ in the Walker Building after some geniuses left open cigarette smoking windows (that’s a no-no) over a weekend when the temp was in the low single digits? Whatever happened to the fancy Fall Festival Float that Jarvis was arrested on? Lots of work for Mr. Danks to do.

  4. In the legals section ( page 3C ) of today’s ( 2-27-17 ) local liberal propaganda outlet the City of Evans and its component units has published its 2016 Annual Financial Report of the Civil City of Evansville, Vanderburgh County, Indiana.

One of the more interesting revelations is the fact that about $44. million has already been DISBURSED for the IU Medical School. Now if you cruse through the area down there you will see that there is only the beginnings of a steel frame building to show for the $44. million disbursement. If it cost that much just to clear the area and prep it for construction, what will the final cost of this project be?

There are also other nuggets within the financial report, such as the negative balances in the Hospitalization Fund. And of course, there is much more information needed that is not provided in this required publishing if one is to get a real sense of where this city’s finances are at this point in time.

  5. Justin Elpers will discuss City initiatives to avoid gentrification as homes are torn down and replaced in public/private partnerships.
Their efforts to combat gentrification have not lead to affordable housing it has led to ghettofication on the southside. I have lived in this area for 60 plus years. In that time I have watched the government, bank and churches destroy a middle class and upper middle class neighborhood in the name of affordable housing. I continue to wonder who has benefited from this. Not the poor or us homeowners.

  6. “Kelly Coures and Justin Elpers will discuss city initiatives to avoid gentrification—–. What in the world does that mean?

    • I guess they are going to talk about how the city is fighting to keep people from moving into low income areas and fixing up the buildings there, since that’s literally what gentrification means. Seems like the OPPOSITE of what they should be trying to do, doesn’t it?

    • It means no matter how much money you put into your 100 year old victorian home it will never be worth the cost. Since the majority of homeowners in this area are black it make a big difference in their long term assets.

  7. Also on the same page in today’s propaganda outlet, directly above the city of Evansville’s Annual Financial Report, there is published the The City of Evansville Long Term Indebtedness Report.

    TOTAL ALL DEBT:

    Outstanding balance 12/31/2016 $745,034,497.81

    Change from prior year $213,219,000.00

WARNING: Debt heading northeast at an alarming rate!

  8. It’s a shame Condee Rice didn’t run for president in 2008. I would have been proud to have voted for the first black woman for the office. And, probably, a two term president who wouldn’t divide our nation while trying to destroy our Constitution.

  9. I see the city is going to spend another $225000 a piece for 27 apartments rehabbing a old warehouse on Garvin st. How much does it cost to build a house now days?

    • About $100 – $135 per square foot if you are using government money and subject to the Davis-Bacon Act. If you do it with private money it is closer to $50- $65 per square foot depending on preferences.

  10. During the hearing Chief Bolin testified that Lt. Molinet was not included in the investigation because it was believed that Lt. Molinet was a friend of Officer Henderson. Lt. Molinet testified that he considered most if not all of the officers on the department to be his friend. Police Chief Bolin also testified that he also considered Officer Henderson to be a friend as well? Police Chief Bolin did not consider this friendship to disqualify his participation in the investigation but only to disqualify Lt. Molinet who was not only the lieutenant over the involved officers but also was present at the scene. What a two face person Chief Bolin has proven to be! Oh, the vote by Police Merit Commission was unanimous.

  11. the liberal progressive gruber goobers showing their ass destroying property and acting like animals at town halls reminds me of that brainless fish floping around at the bottom of my boat……………President Trump law $ Order 2017 And Beyond……………….

  12. Billy Bolin is a p r fella, just promoting himself and his own fame. Che has destroyed the 20 plus years of work by lots of police officers to get total accreditation for the department, not following the accreditation procedures has cost g department in litigation filed and cases lost.

Does anyone know the cost to retrain 4 veteran officers and demote a sergeant without justification. When he runs for whatever office he has planned to run for, he can explain how he lost the accreditation for the whole department.

He operates totally by the seat of his pants. Suggestion: chief Brad Hill, a good chief to replace
