“IS IT TRUE” DECEMBER 4, 2018

19

We hope that today’s “IS IT TRUE” will provoke honest and open dialogue concerning issues that we, as responsible citizens of this community, need to address in a rational and responsible way?

IS IT TRUE that vigilant reporter Jon Webb of the Evansville Courier has outed another local action that leaves one shaking their head in disbelief?…this time he has exposed that the unique Picasso on glass that the Evansville Museum was lost in a vault for decades that is reportedly worth some $40 Million has not been made available for local residents to enjoy?…it has also has not been leveraged through leasing to generate a single dime of income for the Evansville Museum?… If an object of art like this one were leased to bigger Metropolitan museums, it could easily fetch between $3 to $4 million dollars per year for the operating budget of the Evansville Museum?…the reality is that the Evansville Museum’s fortunate discovery of a decades-old donation is costing them money for storage, insurance, maintenance and other fee-based expenses associated with exotic art?…the Evansville Museum is not even forthcoming with information about this Picasso?…the choice to let this treasure of the art world languish as a money sink as opposed to a cash-generating inspiration for many is not only mind-boggling, it is hard to believe?…leaving $3 to $4 million dollars per year on the table isn’t being financially responsible?…it seems as though one folly begat another?…significant art like other things of substance calls for good stewardship and that is something that Evansville Museum  leadership needs to wok on?

IS IT TRUE that the EVSC Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Smith opposes giving a reasonable hourly pay increase to part-time of the off-duty officers doing security work at our schools? …we urge any parent who appreciates the excellent work that the EPD part-time of the off-duty officers do to ensure the safety of our children please attend the next EVSC School Board meeting and voice your support for them?

Is It True we are told that several businesses located on Main Street promoted circus elephants to stop in front of their stores on Main Street on Wednesday, November 21 (a day before Thanksgiving)?  …we are told there was a severe OUTCRY from many local people, including Animal Rights Protection and Zoology groups who were lashing out at the Main Street business owners, Hadi Shriners and all others who promoted this “Elephant Walk” on Main Street?  …we are told that Evansville Deputy Mayor, Steven Schaefer defended the downtown Main Street “Elephant Walk” on social media? ….we are told that the Evansville Chamber of Commerce asked a VOLUNTEER to resign as an “Ambassador” just because she publicly opposed the downtown “Elephant Walk?

IS IT TRUE during the recent Annual Indiana Association Of County Commissioners (IACC) Conference held in Indy we were told that Vanderburgh County Commissioners Cheryl Musgrave and Ben Shoulders were seen having lunch with a consulting firm who wants to do business with the county?  …we were told when the consulting firm offered to pick up the tab for their lunch Commissioners Musgrave and Shoulder said “no” and paid for their own lunch?  …we commend Commissioners Musgrave and Shoulders for doing the right thing?  …we wish that other elected officials in Vanderburgh County would do similar?

IS IT TRUE the most interesting comment we heard in recent months was made by the new Executive Director of ECHO Housing, Chris Metz when he declared that ECHO Housing Corp. was the victim of a crime and is not under investigation? …we would like to remind Mr. Metz that the real victims of the ECHO Housing Corp. crime are the homeless veterans, the disabled, abused children, the chronically unemployed and homeless families?  …we wonder if the criminal investigation by the EPD and the Forensic Audit will clear all of the ECHO Housing key employees and their Board of Directors of any wrongdoing?  …we wonder when will the information in the Forensic Audit and a copy of the EPD Criminal investigation report will be made public?  …we hope that any employee or vendor of ECHO Housing who is found guilty of stealing money that the authorities will throw their “asses in jail”?

IS IT TRUE we find it extremely interesting that several individuals who served on the ECHO Housing Board Of Directors during the time that a large sum of taxpayers dollars was discovered missing are still members of the board?

IS IT TRUE that the Evansville Thunderbolts Hockey team is the last place team in the Southern Professional Hockey League?  …they are also ranked 8 out of 10 in the SPHL attendance standings?  …the former Evansville Icemen are members of the ECHL and has an impressive won and loss record of 13 and 7? …that they are ranked number one (1) in the EHL Southern Conference?  …they are also ranked number five (5) in attendance in the ECHL 27 teams roster with a record of 5,390 attendees per game? …the Evansville Thunderbolts are heavily subsidized by the Evansville taxpayers?  …that the Jacksonville Icemen do not receive any public assistance from any governmental entity?  …the Jacksonville Icemen are operating in the black and the Evansville Thunderbolts are operating in the red?

IS IT TRUE before October 3, 2018, we received the “Active Vanderburgh County Felony Charges” report from County Prosecutor Nick Hermann office for many years?  …after that date, we haven’t received one report from that office? …that next week the City-County Observer be employing the services of prominent attorney Scott Danks to file a formal complaint with the Indiana Public Access Officer against Mr. Hermanns office for not sending us the “Felony Charges” reports since Oct. 3, 2018?

IS IT TRUE the North Main corridor master plan was designed to replace some street parking, provide an up-to-date bike trail, reduce crime and improve security in that area,  and bring economic development to that area? …it’s been about a year since this project was completed?  …we invite you to go to the North Main corridor area and see what kind of new retail businesses that this $18 million dollar public works project have attracted?

IS IT TRUE in 1998 the Teamsters Local 215 established a Taft-Hartley Scholarship Fund? …the Trustees of the fund are Chuck Whobrey and Rick Voyles as employee Trustees and Gary Staley and Alan Braun as Employer Trustees? ..since 1998 the fund has awarded over $3 Million Dollars in Scholarships to sons and daughters of Teamsters members whose employers contribute to the fund?

Todays“Readers Poll” question is: What should the Board Of Directors of the Evansville Museum do with the multi-million dollars “PICASSO On Glass” painting?

  1. No surprise, election fraud was right-wing all along

North Carolina Republicans Alleged to Have Committed Major Election Fraud

Bi-partisan officials in North Carolina refuse to certify election results for a hotly contested U.S. congressional district after discovering what was alleged to be a coordinated effort by Republican Party staff to disenfranchise Democratic Party voters by intentionally destroying and altering their absentee ballots

It seems Republican campaign staffers went to the houses of older Democrats, claimed to be officials, took their absentee ballots and got rid of them. The Republican “won” by 900 votes. It’s 2018. Every major newspaper should be on that story

Among the allegations is that an individual who worked for the Harris campaign coordinated an effort to collect and fill in, or discard, the ballots of Democratic voters who might have otherwise voted for McCready. Several of the affidavits come from elderly African American voters. IT IS ILLEGAL TO TAKE SOMEONE ELSE’S BALLOT, WHETHER TO TURN IT IN OR DISCARD IT

The allegations are shocking and would constitute some of the most egregious election fraud in recent memory. Earlier this week, North Carolina’s State Board of Elections and Ethics Reform decided against certifying the results in the 9th district congressional race between Republican Mark Harris and Democrat Dan McCready

In the weeks since the 2018 midterm elections, several allegations of impropriety and documented irregularities have caused county canvassing boards to decline to certify those results–leading the state election board to their similar decision

At the center of the allegations is Harris campaign contractor McCrae Dowless. Dowless is alleged to have organized an illegal effort which collected several hundred, if not several thousand, absentee ballots from McCready-inclined voters.

Under North Carolina law, it’s unlawful for political campaign workers to collect absentee ballots from voters whatsoever.

After apparently being (illegally and fraudulently) requested by Harris campaign staff, those unlawfully collected ballots were then :

    (1) filled in for Harris if they were collected without a vote in the congressional race

    (2) switched to Harris if a voter had previously selected McCready

    (3) were simply discarded altogether–according to multiple affidavits by elderly and largely African-American voters

Focusing only on the recorded votes does not accurately portray the scope of the election fraud. The allegations also involve Harris supporters receiving mail ballots from voters and destroying those that had votes for his opponents (primary and general)

    • Now, back to the usual suspects:

Florida Democrats on defense amid election fraud investigation

“TALLAHASSEE — After getting crushed in the 2018 midterms, the Florida Democratic Party is now playing defense after staffers sent altered state election documents to voters, a move state officials have asked federal prosecutors to investigate.

The issue arose after state party staff sent voters forms that are intended to fix vote-by-mail ballots that had been initially rejected. Those forms, which are official state documents, were sent with altered dates, leading the Florida Department of State to turn over the paperwork to several U.S. attorneys and request an inquiry into the “irregularities.”…

Under state law governing “fraudulent practices,” it’s a third-degree felony to “knowingly and willfully … make or use any false document, knowing the same to contain any false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or entry” connected to the Department of State. While the fraud statute is not contained in the state’s election code, it relates to the 2018 election because the affidavit in question concerned the elections division, which falls under the Department of State….

The use of altered documents to reach out to voters whose mail ballots were initially rejected is the cherry on top of a disastrous election cycle for Florida Democrats. The difference between the midterm performance of Democrats nationally and in Florida is stark.

Across the country, a blue wave helped Democrats retake the House of Representatives, fare much better in Senate elections than expected, and flip seven governor’s mansions and six state legislatures.

In Florida, Republicans won the governor’s race, are leading in the U.S .Senate race, which is currently under a manual recount, and lost all but one targeted state Senate race.

      • Another right-wing attempt to mislead folks about how the GOP in Florida steals elections

The issues detailed this “complaint” don’t involve allegations of fraud involving election officials or the counting of illegal votes.

Officials in FLorida have even stated they think the incorrect date used on the forms was used because whoever sent the cure affidavit swapped the deadline for cure affidavits with the deadline for provisional ballots. This means there was NO intent at fraud

A spokeswoman for the Florida Democratic Party brushed off the issue, claiming that the Scott administration’s election office is using it as a distraction.

“The courts have already forced Rick Scott to drop a lawsuit after false claims of fraud, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement rejected his desperate attempts to interfere with the important work of counting ballots”

  2. If the Museum could have leased out the Picasso for $3-4 million per year, versus their plan hiding it in a vault, they are even dumber than the City dealing with the McCurdy over the years.

  3. IS IT TRUE there’s a major battle brewing behind the scenes over who will provide legal counsel to the County Commissioners? IS IT TRUE that current Commission attorney Joe Harrison Jr., a Republican, backed losing candidate Mike Duckworth? IS IT TRUE that the Democratic firm of Jones & Wallace saw this as an opportunity and has lobbied to take over the position, even representing Commissioner-elect Jeff Hatfield in his possible recount? IS IT TRUE that current City attorneys at Ziemer, Stayman, Weitzel, & Shoulders (ZSWS) are now also lobbying to represent the County Commissioners? IS IT TRUE this will be a conflict of interest for Ben Shoulders because he is so closely related to one of ZSWS’s owners, Pat Shoulders? IS IT TRUE we are amazed this is even being discussed?

IS IT TRUE that City Council will soon select their attorney as well? IS IT TRUE we expect Josh Claybourn to be retained without much opposition? IS IT TRUE the more interesting development will be who gets elected as President, Vice-President, and Finance Chair? IS IT TRUE that although Dan Adams may seek the position, it is not a done deal and could lead to fireworks? IS IT TRUE that since Jonathan Weaver may not run for Mayor that he may instead want to be President of City Council?

IS IT TRUE that the local Vanderburgh County Republican Party has a leadership crisis? IS IT TRUE that their party chairman Wayne Parke has no support from the rank-and-file nor from elected officials? IS IT TRUE that beyond Mayor Lloyd Winnecke and Commissioner Cheryl Musgrave, there is not a deep bench for the GOP? IS IT TRUE that when those two step down or move on there is no clear or obvious successor for those positions? IS IT TRUE that having Wayne Parke as party chair does not help the matter?

IS IT TRUE that in contrast to the local Republican Party, the area Democrats now have a solid core of leadership in the form of Ben Shoulders, Jeff Hatfield, Laura Windhorst, and a couple successful Warrick officials like Charlie Wyatt? IS IT TRUE we can expect for these folks to help grow and expand the local party even more? IS IT TRUE we suggest they also get a new chairman to help them with this effort?

  4. The Evansville Museum would have been better off if no one ever opened that box and discovered that $40 Million Picasso. They either do not have the means to be good stewards of such an important object of art or they lack the sophistication to manage it. Can’t they just hire someone who does know how to manage art?

    • Agreed. But, how hard can it be to lease the Picasso to Museum’s with high security, and with insurance to cover a loss? It is inexplicable the EV Museum would not have explored this no brainer option.

    • More from that wacky liberal left coast:
      ……………………………………………………..

“A new ad campaign by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has some raising eyebrows.

“Face it. You can’t claim to be a feminist and still eat eggs,” said a billboard that appeared in San Jose, California, according to CBS San Francisco.

“Eggs and Dairy Are a Product of the Abuse of Females,” says the billboard’s fine print.

The ad is part of a broader campaign to shame women into going vegan, considering that PETA equivocates meat eating with murder.

In a video for the ad campaign, the narrator claims that “any people who consider themselves feminists are unthinkingly supporting this violence against females every single day by consuming these cruel foods,” according to the report.

      • Serious right-wing derangement. The terrorism in America is right and white

“PETA is nonpartisan. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, educational organization, IRS regulations prohibit us from endorsing a particular candidate or party. We work with legislators of all party affiliations and recognize the accomplishments of politicians who have helped pass laws protecting animals, regardless of their party”

How about the right-wing support of Proud Boys, KKK, Nazis, Oath Keepers and the Constitutional Sheriff’s and Peace Officers

“A Quartz analysis of the terrorism database shows that almost two-thirds of terror attacks in the (United States) last year were tied to racist, anti-Muslim, homophobic, anti-Semitic, fascist, anti-government, or xenophobic motivations”

Data shows that right-wing extremists were responsible for the majority of extremist murders in the U.S. in 2017

Radical right wing terrorism is on the rise in our great country. And since 2008, terrorist attacks on the U.S. soil carried out by right-wing extremist groups, including white supremacists, outnumber those by Islamic jihadists by two to one. That is a statistical fact.

Many Americans, including those in leadership positions, believe the dominant terrorist threat to the United States originates abroad and is motivated by an extremist interpretation of Islam. They’re wrong. The narrative that posits terrorism is primarily a tactic of foreign-born extremist Muslims is woefully and dangerously incomplete. It’s time to get our facts straight.

Right-wing white supremacist groups are growing in size, lethality and capability. While the United States spent more than a decade disrupting terrorist organizations abroad, a different threat was growing here at home. Its ambitions were different, but its tactics increasingly mirrored those being used by our adversaries in al-Qaeda, ISIS and other groups.

A study of domestic terrorism incidents from 2008 to 2016 identified 194 cases of executed and/or foiled terrorist acts. These included 115 cases of right-wing terrorism, involving deaths, injuries or property damage. Right terrorism was the LARGEST part of terrorism in America

    • As a Stanford alumnus, I will email them today to advise them that my annual contribution will not be forthcoming this year and why.

  5. KELLY COURES $16 MILLION NORTH MAIN STREET ALERT: the 2 buildings at the NE corner of Franklin and N Main (old brick building w/blue door and “Earles” next door) look like they will collapse any minute. The City should immediately fence off this obvious danger to prevent loss of life and limb.

    • As we speak the Codes Enforcement people have begun to condemn this property. I talked to the property owner and he told me he would like to sell the property before the City takes it over. He indicated he would sell it very cheap. We have been told if the dilapidated property is removed from corner property it would have some value.

    • BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

RealClearInvestigations frequently uses emotionally loaded headlines such as this: “2016 Trump Tower Meeting Looks Increasingly Like a Setup by Russian and Clinton Operatives” and “Mueller Still Relying on Discredited Steele Dossier”

Story selection favors the Right and RealClearInvestigations takes a Pro-Trump stance.

Sources they utilize have failed fact checks such as the conspiracy website, Zerohedge.

Overall, we rate RealClearInvestigations Right Biased based on story selection that favors the Right for factual reporting due to utilizing several sources that have failed fact checks

      I love this headline:

Michael Cohen Is The Beginning Of The End Of The Trump Administration

“At that point it was already likely that Trump had a sealed indictment waiting for him after he left office. Everything else is making it more and more likely that he just might be out of office sometime before 2020”

  6. Just like his buddy Putin, Trumpy only cares about other havens that he needs to kiss up to for after he goes to prison and loses ALL his businesses (and his kids)

I remember when America was all about taking down dictators, murderers, and despots. But then the right-wing elected Trumpy and threw decency out the window

Saudi Crown Prince ‘ordered, monitored’ Killing Of Khashoggi, Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chair (Republican) Senator Corker Says

Lawmakers briefed Tuesday by CIA Director Gina Haspel accused Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of being responsible for the killing of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi

Sen. Bob Corker, a Tennessee Republican who chairs the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, told CNN after a briefing with Haspel that the prince, known as MBS, “ordered, monitored, the killing” of the father of four

Corker added, “And if he (MBS) were in front of a jury, he would be convicted of murder in about 30 minutes”

The Trump administration has argued there is no “smoking gun” tying the prince to the murder, but Corker said Haspel presented the senators with information they hadn’t heard before

“I left the briefing with high confidence that my initial confidence is correct,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina Republican, who said he is highly confident that the prince is responsible for the murder. “There’s not a smoking gun, there’s a smoking saw” said Graham, who then referred to reports that the Saudi team included a forensic expert who arrived with equipment to dismember Khashoggi’s body

  7. I proud to say I have not watch the main stream media (CNN,FOX,ABC,NBC, CBS,MSNBC,) since the mid-term election night. I don’t have headaches, anxiety and my general outlook on life is great. I greet people with a smile. I sit outside and talk to my neighbors about the weather, football and general BS.

I have read the city county observer and read the same two commenters comments.
Life too short to worry about politics.
Adios..please send me a reminder when it’s time to Vote for President.
