IS IT TRUE? December 23, 2011

IS IT TRUE that the appointments keep rolling out of the Transition Team and that two more blue chippers are being announced today?…that Russ Lloyd Jr. will be our next City of Evansville Controller?…that the unwritten rule of being controller is that job one is that you can’t run out of cash to pay the bills?…that former Mayor and soon to be Controller Lloyd will have his handfuls paying the bills that are being run up by the Weinzapfel Administration in its last days in office?…that whatever the budget for 2012 was thought to be it is already busted by Mayor Weinzapfel’s December spending binge?

IS IT TRUE that Ted Ziemer will be name to be the next City of Evansville Attorney?…that this is another win for Mayor Elect Winnecke and his Transition Team?…that few people know that Mr. Ziemer was a champion of placing roughly $500,000 of the Vanderburgh County economic development funds into the hands of GAGE to help local businesses back in 2008 when Mayor Weinzapfel and Tom Barnett were redirecting revolving loan funds to pay for Front Door Pride houses, most of which are still sitting empty with a for sale sign up at nearly $100,000 less than was paid to build them?…that a champion for business who can actually add a column of numbers will be a welcome addition to the Office of the Mayor of Evansville?

IS IT TRUE that our illustrious Evansville Redevelopment Commission paid $603,000 for a parking lot and then turned around and leased that same parking lot to City Centre Properties LLC for a total of $1.00 for 40 years?…that we wonder if CCP has paid that dollar because if they have they control the parking lot for the next 36 years?…that if CCP wants to make some real trouble they could just hold onto that parking lot to get out of the parts of the deal that may not be so favorable to them?…that the chickens have come back to roost at the McCurdy with the pigeons, bats, snakes, and rats?

IS IT TRUE that it has now been 1,700 days since the announcement was made on May 14, 2007 that the McCurdy Hotel was to be refurbished into luxury apartments?…that it has now been 1,553 days since the Evansville Redevelopment Commission at the request of Mayor Weinzapfel approved the spending of $603,000 to purchase the parking lot?…that City Centre Properties and Scott Kosene the developers of the McCurdy project are both listed as contributors to the Weinzapfel for Mayor committee for 2010?…that that there are 8 days remaining in the Weinzapfel Administration?

IS IT TRUE that there are now 309 days remaining in the two years that the EPA had given the City of Evansville to present an acceptable solution to the Combined Sewer Overflow problem?…..that this plan is an expensive and complex endeavor that needs immediate attention to avoid the embarrassment and expense of another round of fines?

  1. Two more excellent selections by Mayor Winnecke who is batting 1.000 on his EFD, EPD, Controller and Corporate legal counsel selections. Well done!

    • Russ Lloyd Jr. not only brings his CPA and unique governmental knowledge, he brings credibility and wide respect to the Mayor Winnecke cabinet. The same is true for Ted Ziemer with his outstanding legal experience and reputation. It has long been known that real leaders surround themselves with the best talent and let them do their jobs. Mayor Winnecke is off to a great start with his team. Very refreshing to see after years of leadership where no one could act unless the great leader told them what to do.

  2. If anyone can manage the city’s budget, balance it, & help Mayor Winnecke recover from the ridiculous spending by Weinsappy, Russ Lloyd can? Great choice; I look forward to our city being a respectful community once again.

  3. Is it mandatory that you be a delinquent payer of property taxes before you can get a contract and incentive package from the city of Evansville?

    • Any bank or city council that will put money in this companies hand with the bad track record they have of paying taxes and even paying for materials should lose any license they have including a law license and a CPA. It is just one thing after another with this group of people.

Why can’t the City of Evansville do business with reputable businesses that pay their bills and deliver a quality product. What does the city want downtown to be like. It is headed to be a trailer court that is behind on taxes and doesn’t pay bills.

      • If you are spread so thin that you can not even make property tax payments on time one might be concerned that the slightest little thing might start a domino effect that would bring the whole thing down.

        Then where would Evansville be?

        __

        • I believe that the editor stated a few days ago that the reason these taxes were not yet paid is that there was an appeal pending on each of them.

          • He might also want to get those settled before the end of the Weinzapfel administration. Wink, wink; nod, nod.

          • The attorney for Kunkel stated at the City Council meeting that there were two properties that are being appealed. They are the Park 41 (old Whirlpool) and the Walker Building (old Welborn) Both of those buildings are indeed assessed at way over market value which fully justifies Kunkel’s appeals. The properties that Press has posted owned by Kunkel controlled LLC’s are not the two under appeal. The CCO checked out four of them last week and found that the Assessor’s office was reporting them to be delinquent. When we called the Treasurer we learned that in all four cases the taxes which were due on November 10th had been paid on December 2nd with penalties. The ERC made their choice of Kunkel known on December 6th after a private meeting with Hunden in late November.

  4. I’m very excited to hear that Russ Lloyd will be the Controller. I support anyone who supports Russ Lloyd and this is a great way to begin the wave of change.

Also, I don’t know Ted Ziemer but I’m curious to know what he will do with the left over plans for the slack water port. I’m also curious to know how Lloyd Winnecke plans to go about making it a reality.

  5. I have nothing against Ziemer but if I remember correctly his name appeared more than once on Winnecke’s campaign finance report and for very, very large sums. All of Winnecke’s other appointments seem pretty solid and I’m not doubting his faith in Ziemer. It just seems really coincidental. Quid quo pro has been the mantra coming from the mayor’s office for the last 8 years. I hope this appointment is what’s best for the city and not just payback for bankrolling the campaign. Does anyone remember just how much Ziemer contributed? Mr. Winnecke, please say this is an isolated incident. It is too reminiscent of a King John move. We can’t bear this type of behavior for another 4 years.

    • Let’s not connect the dots just to make the picture we want to see. If someone supports a candidate philosophically, wants to see him or her in office and has the financial means to support a candidacy, the fact that they could also be an addition to the newly elected candidate’s staff shouldn’t simply be seen as buying their way into a public job.

  6. Congratulations to Russell Lloyd in his appointment as City Controller. His participation in civic governance is very reassuring to every citizen of Evansville who wants the best leadership available for our town, and in appointing him to this important position Mayor Winnecke is reassuring all of us that we did the right thing when we voted for him.

  7. Russ Lloyd is an outstanding pick by Mr. Winnecke. Mr. Winnecke is off to a very solid start. Next Mr. Winnecke must to remove the current ERC members and appoint members with real business/legal experience.
