We hope that today’s “READERS FORUMâ€Â will provoke honest and open dialogue concerning issues that we, as responsible citizens of this community, need to address in a rational and responsible way.
IS IT TRUE we are told that many people are extremely pleased that Libertarian Bart Gadau has filed to run in the Nov. 5, 2019, general election for Mayor of Evansville? …Mr. Gadau is the only general election challenger to the two-term Republican Mayor Lloyd Winnecke? Â …the Democrats have until June 30, 2019, to file as a candidate for Mayor? Â …that Mr. Gadau, also ran as a Libertarian for U.S. Congress in 2012 and for the 1st Ward City Council seat in 2015 and lost?
IS IT TRUEÂ Bart Gadau has lived in Evansville his entire life? ….we are told that he will question the wisdom of Mayor Winnecke wasting our hard earned tax dollars on capital projects that we don’t need or can afford because it hurts the everyday taxpayer? Â …he also claims to understand that the “middle- and lower-income families are hurting, and it’s getting to a point that they can’t afford to pay their electric and water and sewer bills? …he feels that “we need someone who represents the everyday person rather than big businesses”? Â …we will see on November 5, 2019, if the voters pay attention to his conservative message that the City of Evansville should spend within their means?
IS IT TRUE that a well-known Republican told us that the City of Evansville finances is seriously in trouble?  …we are told that if the City would be forced to pay all their current accounts payables they could be forced to declared involuntary bankrupted?
IS IT TRUE we have been told by credible sources that Mayor Winnecke may be considering transferring all of the Citys Department IT work to the City Water and Sewer Utility Department?  …if he’s successful this move will save the City of Evansville several million dollars per year because all the City IT Department costs will be absorbed by the Evansville Water and Sewer Utility Department?
IS IT TRUE we have been told by credible sources the Parks Department may be considering closing one of the City’s golf courses and at least one public pool in the very near future?
IS IT TRUE we are told by credible sources that a couple of well-known business people have purchased several partials of property located on North Main Street close to the Bosse Field area?  …we wonder what they know that we don’t?
IS IT TRUEÂ we been told by credible sources that Mayor Winnecke has received some alarming projections on how the new Terre Haute Casino will financially impact Tropicana-Evansville? Â …we hope he shares this information with members of City Council so they can prepare for any loss in gaming revenue because of the new casino in Terre Haute?
IS IT TRUE we would like to commend the Director of Department Of Evansville Redevelopment Kelly Courses for having the insight for introducing MDRPA (Municipal Development Riverfront Project Area) to members of the Evansville City Council?  …recently this item was placed on the City Council agenda?  …that MDRPA expands the Jacobsville Redevelopment District in order to spur additional bar and restaurant businesses in the West Franklin Street area? …MDRPA was created as a tool by the State of Indiana in 1993 and has provided to many cities and towns help in their urban/economic development areas without raising taxes?  …that state statute requires these areas to fall within 3,000 feet of the river AND be designated redevelopment areas, which then provides numerous business incentives such as a special liquor license permit to help develop in these designated suppressed areas?  …that Evansville has utilized this tool very successfully here locally?  …several Main Street and Haynie’s Corner businesses have been approved for these special non-transferable liquor licenses during the last several years?  …the CCO gives five (5) thumbs up to the six City Council members who voted and passed this business-friendly economic tool for the greater good of the city!
Over the next several weeks we shall be adding additional obituaries from other local funeral homes.  Please scroll down the paper and you shall see a listing of them.

Did anyone buy the old CVS at 800 N Main from the ERC?

Norm, how much did the city pay for the Main Street park and what was its market value?
I don’t see the $450,000 sale price and I see two lots on the sale. 1 for $24,300 and 1 for $77,400 which would still make it short of the $450,000 price if that was the sell price. Another thing, what is the water and sewer department buying it for? Wasn’t this supposed to be Kelley Coures’ dream?
Click Norm’s first link, middle of page 1 under sales data. $450,000 for a park last assessed at $24,300. Not sure why the Water and Sewer Utility needed to buy a “park”. Maybe they will use it for port-a-jon storage.
LBo, on Oct 23, 2018 the City paid $450,000 for the park at 400 Main St

which sold 10 years earlier for $53,300

and was last assessed at $24,300

You guys aren’t paying attention. You’ve missed what’s probably going to happen with the local casino (Tropicana) as a result of the just signed Indiana “Sports Book” legislation.
Carl Icahn was a major stockholder in the Tropicana casino properties. He was behind the sale of the Tropicana to Eldorado Resorts (Carano family) and Gaming and Leisure Properties.
Carl Icahn is now a major stockholder in the Harrah’s/Caesar’s casino properties. Icahn now has 3 representative appointees on the Harrah’s/Caesar’s Board of Directors. Harrah’s/Caesar’s currently has 2 casinos in Indiana; one on the Ohio River across from Louisville and one on Lake Michigan. Indiana law (until last Friday) only allows a license holder to have a maximum of 2 casinos in Indiana.
The recently passed and signed “Sports Book” legisation also has a small addition that now allows a casino license holder to own and operate up to six (6) casinos in Indiana. A major change in the law.
Carl Icahn, through his representatives sitting on the Board of Directors of Harrah’s/Caesar’s, is advocating the sale or merger of Harrah’s/Caesar’s with Eldorado Properties (Carano family). With the change allowed by the new legislation this would be legal. If this occurs it would result in a loss of competition between casinos. The casino at Metropolis, IL along with Evansville’s casino, and the one across from Louisville would be owned/operated by one entity. No competition to entice players.
If you think it’s gotten bad at the local casino with the new owners, just think how bad it will get if they eliminate any competition.
See no reason there’ll be any real competition against Winnecke. He has the unions in his pocket and as long as he waste tax dollars on useless projects and the union reap the benefits he’ll stay in charge. Democrats know they have a friend in the mayors office.
…if he’s successful this move will save the City of Evansville several million dollars per year because all the City IT Department costs will be absorbed by the Evansville Water and Sewer Utility Department?”
That’s because those IT costs will be tacked onto your EWSU bill as an additional operating expense.
Just robbing Peter to pay Paul.
No doubt a scheme cooked up by Little Lloyd, the Master of Illusions.
If they do close a golf course I suggest putting in an outdoor shooting range. They will be able to charge more for shooting on the range than golfing.
