Intimidation at Taco Bell

On February 8, around 9:15 p.m., the Evansville Police Department was called to Taco Bell at 1001 N. Green River Road. Officers were told that a black male, wearing a red, black and white shirt was in the parking lot waving a gun around.

The caller, who was an employee of the store, gave dispatch the description of the suspect and what vehicle he arrived in.

When officers arrived, they were able to quickly locate the suspect in his vehicle. From a safe distance, officers gave the suspect verbal commands to exit his car. Initially, he refused to exit and made several requests for officers to shoot him.

The suspect, later identified as D Yawn Dontae Griffin (26), eventually exited his vehicle. Once outside of his car, he began doing pushups on the pavement before finally complying with the officer’s commands. He was then placed into custody with no further incident.

After being placed into custody, officers were able to locate a loaded handgun, 6 handgun magazines and 117 rounds of ammunition in Griffin’s vehicle.Â
