FOP  PRESS RELEASE April 17, 2014

bruceWhile  the Evansville Fraternal Order of Police PAC has historically not made endorsements in the primary races,we decided after great consideration to take this unprecedented step.  We believe that the contested seat in both the County Commissioner and County Council Election will have a significant impact on the citizens of Vanderburgh County.  After interviewing the candidates, the Evansville Fraternal Order of Police PAC endorses Bruce Ungethiem for County Commissioner and Pete Swaim for County Council Fourth District.
Bruce Ungethiem was a strong ally with the local Evansville FOP, Lodge 73 in defeating the Referendum regarding consolidation in local government.  Ungethiem is a forward thinker, fiscally responsible and has an
Marshal-Peter-Swaim-504x630abundance of life experience that would benefit Vanderburgh County.
Pete Swaim was a U.S. Marshall, has been a life-time member and Past President of the Evansville FOP. Lodge 73 while serving as a Deputy with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Department, and is currently serving as the Fourth District County Councilman.

  1. Unprecedented good move on the part of the FOP!
I do have a concern about the signs for Mr. U that are displayed in the Burkhardt Rd area. They are on public right-of-way, which is not a good decision. Worse yet, they are abutting signs for Andrew McNeil and Al Tomes. Those are probably not good associations to make in the minds of the general electorate. It may be better to try to display Ungetheim signs with Swaim signs, and do it on private property.

    • EKB: How old a guy is that Swaim fella? Just curious only from a childhood family holiday thing, way back,my,photographic memory kicked in the other day when I read the name Pete Swaim. It isn’t bad at all, if this is the same guy its actually kinda cool, Funny that recall would be now decades ago, and,I mean decades.

      • He’s about my age, maybe a little older. I’m 67. In his younger days, he was red-haired.

        • The guy I’m thinking about is probably older than that. 69-70 something like that. That Pete Swaim I’m remembering lived with his parents or was visiting them on Madison Ave south of Washington school.
Saved me and my cousins some trouble and likely didn’t even know it!

The event was some bullies were ragging my cuz and his friends, picking at them really, basically, calling them fish eaters and other stuff. 6 bullies all older boys, high school maybe,we were all little farts in grade school.
The bullies out numbered my cousins and their friend, so I rushed down to join the standoff.
The second I stepped in on it, the bullies turned and ran off, wow,I was all puffed up prancing around like hero or something. That’s when one of those nice neighbors,a cool guy WWII veteran like my dad and my uncles. Says to us “you boys sure lucked out,I thought something bad was going to happen before I could stop it,But Pete came out to leave and scared ’em off.. I guess him being a new deputy and all”…..Ahahahaha!

I still to this day don’t think the Swaim guy new what he had done!
Its a funny story but true, like I said we probably lucked out.
Turns out the Fella that came to intervene late was someone whos’s Grandkid is a deputy or sheriff’s officer there now, as well.
I know the fellas name was Marlow, cuz told me his grandsons name is Doug, one of Marlow’s sons went by that name,so it makes sense.
Still can see that like it was yesterday,I never saw that Pete Swain guy,he was in the driveway behind me,I guess. 🙂

That section of Evansville was practically the east side burbs back then,we rode bikes down to Weinbach,it was a farm field when I first remembered that place. 🙂

  2. I’m curious about whether the Courier will print this endorsement, and I’d just love to hear from Wayne on the subject.

      • I think Wayne lost his tall. Might have to send The Phoenix flying in with the play.

        • I’m sure you mean “Andrew”. When we call him Phoenix, he thinks it means he’s winning the “intellectual argument”, you know. It all goes to prove that whatever the alias, the comment is just as toxic.

          • Yes, I did mean Anndreww. He should embrace his degree and his university rather than refuse to acknowledge them. Doesn’t take much to get him to declare victory. To read his declarations you’d have to conclude he wins a half dozen ‘intellectual arguments’ before his second cup of coffee.

  3. Back to back good picks by the fop. This something I don’t see too often here. Appreciate the vision from the FOP.

  4. Looks like Marsha Abell has just been handed a major political career ending blow by the local GOP.

  5. This Ungentheim is probably capable of good ole boy back scratching too. Just saying. Best to vote for an outsider now but keep him on a short leash. This should be the way with all politicians at all levels.

  6. In most of her races, Marsha has generally had opponents with huge holes in their resumes or were generally weak candidates. I believe this year is different.

Lack of political insider experience, IMHO, is a plus for Bruce. He will not be beholden to “the party.”
