OptIN Signing Day

This is an exciting time of year for area high school seniors. They are eagerly anticipating graduation and making plans for the future, many of them signing with their favorite college or university. In addition to honoring those students who are pursuing postsecondary education, this year the EVSC also will honor students who plan to enter the workforce or military immediately following high school.
The EVSC, through its OptIN program – in collaboration with the OptIN Advisory Council – will host a signing day Wednesday, May 8, at 10 a.m. at the Old National Events Plaza for EVSC seniors whose passions, skills and interests have led them to directly enter the workforce or military upon high school graduation. The signing day, sponsored by the Southwest Indiana Chamber of Commerce, serves as a way to value and recognize their hard work, including career preparation and industry certifications they have earned. Students participating in the signing day already have high-wage, high-demand positions lined up with local employers upon graduation.
Approximately 80 students will be in attendance and various industry sectors and the military will be present to recognize students for their success.
About OptIN:
The EVSC announced the creation of OptIN – Opportunities through Partnerships that Transform and Inspire – in December 2017. OptIN educates students and their families on postsecondary and career options that best match their interests and strengths. OptIN matches students’ passions with open positions in our community by ensuring students have the education and transferable skills necessary for today’s workforce.
Last August, OptIN unveiled its very own Governor’s Work Ethic Certificate (GWEC) which is a college and career readiness opportunity for seniors to identify, develop and demonstrate they have the skills necessary to be successful in college and career. The skills measured by the GEWC were the result of months of collaboration with community leaders and the area’s top employers.
Most recently, OptIN announced RAMP, a first-of-its-kind embedded work-based learning program in Indiana where selected students will spend their entire day onsite at AmeriQual. Half of the day will be spent as employees of AmeriQual, earning a wage and learning the skills necessary to be successful. The other half of the day will be spent in a classroom at AmeriQual completing the requirements for high school graduation.
