EVSC Schools to Host Veteran’s Day Assemblies

Schools throughout the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation will take time out of their day to celebrate Veteran’s Day tomorrow with special school assemblies. Below is a list of some of the events that will be taking place Thursday:
Scott School, 8:30 – 10:15 a.m.
Scott will host two assemblies. Each assembly will begin with the presentation of colors. The principal will give a history of Veteran’s Day and Veterans and their families will be honored with military songs and a flag presentation for each branch of the military. Veteran guest speaker will be Ed Walston.
 
Stringtown Elementary School, 9 a.m.
A local veteran will speak to students about his experiences in the military and explain why he thinks it is important to remember our Veterans. Students also will be able to submit questions for him to answer. In addition, the school will kick off its first SuperCitizen assembly where a student from each homeroom is recognized for showing outstanding citizenship.
Cynthia Heights Elementary School, 9 a.m.
Cynthia Heights choir will sing and fifth grade students will speak about each branch of the military. Veteranss of Cynthia Heights students are invited to the event.
Highland Elementary School, 9 a.m.
Highland’s assembly will include the entire student body singing “God Bless America.”
Perry Heights Middle School, 9 a.m.
Perry Heights will host a reception for Veterans and their students at 8:30 a.m. and the assembly will begin at 9 a.m. The choir, band and orchestra will perform and a complete program is planned.
Helfrich Park STEM Academy, 1:30 p.m.
Helfrich Park’s assembly will include a guest speaker and songs from its choir, band and orchestra.
