Eagles defend home court with 8-1 win over Cardinals

University of Southern Indiana Women’s Tennis took away an 8-1 non-conference win over William Jewell College Friday at the Evansville Tennis Center.

Sophomore Alex Jamison (Floyd Knobs, Indiana) and freshman Anna McDonald (Tallahassee, Florida) earned an 8-2 win at number two doubles to get the Screaming Eagles on the board. The duo of sophomore Lauren Hambrock (Terre Haute, Indiana) and senior Kelsey Shipman (Olney, Illinois) grabbed an 8-3 win at number one doubles, while senior Jennifer Mizikar (Batavia, Illinois) and freshman Lauryn Thompson (Evansville, Indiana) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-5 triumph at number three.

USI (4-0) continued to rake in wins in singles competition, starting with Hambrock’s 6-1, 6-0 win at number one singles. McDonald clinched the win with a 6-2, 6-2 win at number three; while Shipman (No. 2), Jamison (No. 4) and Mizikar (No. 5) each earned straight-set victories to round out the Eagles’ scoring.

The Eagles return to action Saturday at 5 p.m. when they host Maryville University in a non-conference tilt at the Evansville Tennis Center.
