The University of Southern Indiana women’s tennis team concluded the fall portion of their schedule at the Evansville Metro Collegiate Invitational this past weekend, with junior Jennifer Mizikar (Batavia, Illinois) finishing third in number six singles.
Mizikar won her quarterfinal match 4-6, 6-4, 11-9 to advance to the semifinals, where she was defeated 2-6, 0-6. She then bounced back to win the third place match, 8-5.
Also in singles, junior Kelsey Shipman (Olney, Illinois) was able to advance to the semifinals, but dropped two hard fought matches to finish fourth in number two singles.
USI also had a strong showing in doubles. The duo of Shipman and freshman Lauren Hambrock (Terra Haute, Indiana) advanced to the semifinals in number two doubles by winning 6-3, but dropped their next two matches for a fourth place finish.
In number four doubles, freshman Alex Jamison (Floyds Knobs, Indiana) and junior Haley Jones (Ft. Branch, Indiana) also finished fourth by winning their quarterfinal match 6-3, before dropping the semifinal and third place matches by a score of 4-6.
