Deborah “Debbie†Hartz, a Lead Lead Coach in Innovative and Alternative Models with the EVSC, was named the 2013 Horace Mann, ISTA Hoosier Educator of the Year. This award jointly sponsored by the Indiana State Teachers Association and Horace Mann, is to recognize, reward and promote excellence in teaching and advocacy for the education profession. Criteria for the award includes: Professional Practice, Advocacy for the Profession, Community Engagement, Leadership in Professional Development and Attention to Diversity. Debbie has taught for EVSC for 36 years in a variety of positions and is a very active member of the Evansville Teachers Association. In addition to a $2,500 monetary award from Horace Mann her name will now be submitted for consideration in the NEA Foundation Award for Teaching Excellence.
