The Children’s Center for Dance Education (CCDE) will dedicate Bethany’s Studio at 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 11 at Carver Community Organization, located at 400 SE Eighth Street. The public is invited to attend.

The studio will be named in honor of Bethany Schklar whose work with children at Carver launched her career in teaching. Schklar was tragically killed in an automobile accident a few months ago. Her family, including her mother, Patty Avery, will gather at Carver at 400 SE 8th Street for the official studio opening.

CCDE began a successful outreach program called Tap, Tumble, and Twirl in November 2018 at Carver for preschoolers ages 3 and 4. This dance program, which will continue in this new space, helps teach skills around kindergarten readiness. The new studio was built with funding help from the Art’s Council of Southwestern IN and Old National Bank. The mirrors have also provided new program opportunities for the preschoolers, drama club, and those in speech therapy. A mural was completed by artist Dakri Sinclair who is well known for her work for children’s bedrooms and hospital settings.

Rabbi Gary Mazo and Rev. Gerald Arnold will lead the dedication. Ribbon cutting and plaque unveiling will be followed by a modern dance performed by Devon Lockett from Children’s Center for Dance Education. The original piece was choreographed by John Cartwright from Hubbard Dance, Chicago at a recent summer intensive training.
