Congressional Candidate Richard Moss knocks Bucshon on Amnesty

“More empty rhetoric a month before the primary. Bucshon claims to oppose Obama’s Executive Amnesty but votes to fund it.”

Rockville, IN – At a Parke County Republican Party Lincoln Day Dinner, Congressman Bucshon delivered the keynote speech before the county faithful regaling his “conservative” record. But as is typical of Bucshon, the only time he is conservative is a month before the primary when he is campaigning. The rhetoric does not match the voting record. Congressman Bucshon, for example, raised the matter of this press release during the speech.
(WASHINGTON, DC) – On Thursday, Eighth District Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. voted to approve a resolution granting the Speaker of the House authority to file an amicus brief before the Supreme Court defending the Article I powers of Congress. This pertains to United States v. Texas, where the Supreme Court asked whether the president’s executive amnesty violates the president’s duties under Article II, Section 3 of the Constitution to “take care that the laws be faithfully executed”?

Congressman Bucshon may not realize this, but Congress does not require another branch of government to do its dirty work. It has all the power to do it itself. Since the Congressman has taken to quoting from the Constitution of late, let me remind him that Constitutionally speaking, Congress is arguably the most powerful branch of the federal government. Yes, the Constitution places most of the governing power of the federal government in Congress – if the Republican Congress would but use it. The main power of course is spending. Congress determines appropriations. It can withhold or dispense funding as it chooses. There is no greater power than this. And herein lies our problem. Our Republican held Congress votes for massive Omnibus spending bills that fully fund the Obama agenda for the year. And once that funding has been allocated, Congress has no leverage over the Executive Branch. And Obama can do whatever he wants for the entire year – until the Republican Congress obediently passes the next massive Omnibus bill the following year. And the Republicans have been doing this religiously since 2010 when they took the House.

All other efforts after the spending has already been allocated are political theater, phony show votes or gestures that lack significance. But this is what we have come to expect from our hapless Republicans in Congress. Empty gestures.

As I have written before, Congressman Bucshon voted for the Omnibus bill last December, not less than 2000 pages, a $1.1 trillion behemoth, or about half a billion dollars a page, that increased spending by $53 billion over the last year.  It also fully funded Obama’s lawless executive amnesty, not to mention Planned Parenthood and “sanctuary cities,” while quadrupling H2-B visas bringing in more unskilled labor to compete with American workers. So his claims to oppose Amnesty are false. If you fund something you support it. And he has voted to fund amnesty. Anything after that is meaningless pablum.

But there have been other votes Congressman Bucshon has taken that show his true colors regarding the matter of amnesty. On March 3, 2015, he voted against a motion that would have killed HR240. This bill contained funding for Obama’s lawless executive amnesty. He voted against the motion that would have stopped it, in effect supporting amnesty.

On December 12, 2014, he voted in favor of the Cromnibus bill, a 1700 page, $1.1 trillion monster that once again fully funded the Obama agenda for 11 of 12 federal departments for the entire fiscal year with no Congressional restrictions on his lawless executive amnesty, Obamacare, and environmental regulations. The bill actually provided Obama with an additional $2.5 billion to facilitate his executive amnesty. Still worse, this vote came a month after our landslide wave election victory in November 2014 when we increased our hold on Congress and took the Senate, a stunning rebuke of the Obama administration. The bill was a backroom deal by lame duck Senators who were rejected by the American people. Rather than voting for a CR (continuing resolution) that would have funded the government until January to allow the newly elected Republican majorities to weigh in on major spending bills, it completely undercut them and the American people by funding the government including Obama’s executive amnesty and the rest of his destructive agenda for the entire fiscal year.

So which is it, Congressman, filing an amicus brief so Congress can join in a “lawsuit” before the Supreme Court or use the real power of Congress, the ultimate power, of funding and appropriation? The answer is clear. You didn’t want to upset Obama and the Democrats. You wanted to curry favor with former speaker John Boehner, Mitch McConnell, Paul Ryan and other liberal Republicans. They are the Republican leadership. You are a loyal foot soldier. Their priorities are your priorities. They support Obama’s lawless executive amnesty because their donors want it. And so do you. And to hell with your constituents and the American people.

This is why we Republicans and conservatives are so frustrated with the Republican Party in Washington. It explains, like him or not, the Trump phenomenon. There is a disconnect between the Republican leadership and their loyal foot soldiers like Congressman Bucshon and the Republican/conservative base that gets them elected.

Pay no attention to liberal Republicans at Lincoln Day Dinners a month before the primary. It’s not what they say while campaigning at home, it’s what they do in Washington. It is time for Bucshon to retire.

“Our nation is at the precipice. Time is running out. We cannot afford business as usual or the status quo. Our country is slipping through our fingers. It is time for a change for Indiana’s 8th district. I ask for your vote in the Republican Primary May 3 2016. I will be your conservative champion in Washington. I will not let you down.

Thank you.”

  1. Editor,
I am not sure why you publish so much from this candidate. Is it that you are promoting him? I am definitely not a Bucshon fan in the least but this guy is not fan material either. Both these guys have egos out the wazoo. Truthfully this pre-election has been filled with so much garbage from so many that I will be surprised if nationally we hit even a 10% voting record. People just don’t care when scum is tossed in their face day after day and they have to spent all their time ducking from the mud rather than having space to think through the issues themselves. As was pointed out at the reception for Hamilton and Lugar at USI last evening, civility, intelligence, and diplomacy is what the citizens of this country want, need and do not have now in the Senate or the House. I will add that they would never have it with either Trump or Cruz in the second branch of government either making 2/3 of our 3-part checks and balances system totally unbalanced.
Anyone got a house for sale with a little bit of land and a pole barn out of Evansville?

  2. I fail to see any mud in this piece but rather it DOES focus on the issues. What we have had out of Washington the last 7 years is neither civility, intelligence or diplomacy. We have had countless instances of 200 year old legal and political precedence being thrown out the window. Starting with Obamacare in which the Democrats changed the rules in order to pass it and followed by Indiana getting ran over in the GM bailout with our pensions. They changed the rules again in order to pay other creditors first. What we need are people in Washington who are not afraid to speak out, stand up and put their positions out there. People who actually have positions and ideas and not party hacks who do the bidding of big government no matter which side they fall on. Dr. Moss is a refreshing change in the political arena and I am glad we finally have someone worth voting for. I also think you are very wrong about voter turnout in this primary. I believe it will be the highest we have had in years. We will see who is right May 3rd.

  3. Dr. Moss always speaks the truth and its very refreshing for a change, Not your usual pandering.

  4. New analysis from NERA Economic Consulting shows the Environmental Protection Agency’s power plan comes with a hefty price tag that could approach $300 billion and raise electricity prices in each of the 47 states subject to the new regulation. Despite these enormous costs, the rule does nothing to prevent global climate change.

“This analysis makes it abundantly clear the president’s power plan will result in higher electricity prices and delivers a sharp wake-up call to states and consumers,” said Mike Duncan, ACCCE president and CEO. “Common sense tells us that with 27 states seeking judicial action to stop this plan from being implemented there is reason enough for EPA to take this rule off the table. Sadly, however, common sense isn’t prevailing and as result Americans’ economic well-being and livelihoods are at risk.”

Despite the fact that the president’s plan will have virtually no effect on climate change, NERA’s analysis shows that all of the Lower 48 states will see electricity price increases because of the rule. Consumers in 40 states could see double-digit electricity price increases, and 28 states could face electricity price spikes greater than 20 percent. The annual cost of at least $30 billion per year for the plan is three times greater than the cost of EPA’s Mercury and Air Toxics rule, which the U.S. Supreme Court criticized by saying, “It is not rational … to impose billions of dollars in economic costs in return for a few dollars in … benefits.”

“Energy policy needs to ensure all Americans have affordable and reliable electricity to meet everyday challenges and to help build a strong foundation of economic success. Regardless of where you stand politically, this plan fails to meet that threshold,” Duncan said.

The American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity is a partnership of the industries involved in producing electricity from coal. Coal, an abundant and affordable American energy resource, provides nearly 40 percent of our power. By 2018, the coal-based power industry is expected to have invested more than $126 billion to develop technologies to use this critical resource more cleanly and efficiently than ever before.

  5. Dr. Moss is our best candidate to fight for coal jobs and our liberties. I am a coal miner. I have seen 1000 coalminer jobs gone, and with every one coal mine job lost, 11 support jobs are lost as well. That is 12,000 good paying jobs lost to date in Southern Indiana alone! Vote DR. Moss, A true defender of the Republic and our liberties.

  6. Dr. Buschon says one thing in Indiana and does something else in Washington DC. He is a great example of what is wrong with the Republican Party. Dr. Moss is the real conservative, not Rep Buschon.
